Rosin Technique....Easy DIY Solventless

Truth be told; I have actually been contemplating not posting on FC anymore because of a few recent instances of people questioning my motives and alleging conflicts of interest.
Try not to let them get to you, just link them to this post and if it's still somehow not clear, block them. Actually I would probably just add the post link right in your sig, I think it explains your relationship with these companies very clearly.

@herbivore21 did you try moistening the flowers at all? I found putting them in a jar with a damp/wet coffee filter for 12ish hours definitely helped with yield and also helped keep plant material out of the rosin. Also tried just dipping buds straight in water but that didn't work quite as well.

That said definitely found some strains to be far better than the average so you might be right about them just not being ideal for rosin for whatever reason.

Thank you Sir! I honestly thought my buds sucked at first also. I almost gave up on rosin because I could not get good results like others have. Then I found that ebay iron with the flat top and bottom with low temps and it changed the game for me eventually.

Even with a 4ft pry bar lifting my workbench/shop off the ground, I did not get really good yields due to uneven pressures. Then recently I put the hairpress in a soft jaw vice and well it's now working very very well. So well, I am almost tempted to cancel my dnail order.

Also: I do not have any affiliation with that ebay seller at all except purchasing my 2 irons from them in china and I received them both within 2 weeks. Excellent seller!

@Been Vapin do you know how much pressure you are getting with your clamp? And what temp do you use for your flat iron when salvaging the gecko pressed hash?

Do you know what pressure/temp was used with the gecko on the first presses of the hash?

@Joel W. looks great! What temp are you using?

I think bubbleman was using 245F for bud which seems lower than what most people use with the flat iron right?

I'm going to be bummed as well if the press doesn't work well with bud squishing.

But worst case, I guess I can dry sift and press that...I plan on doing that anyway, but it's just not as convenient.

I am not sure of pressure or PSI, but it's gotta be high with the small plates . This new c clamp is supposed to be the shit. Gonna pick one up tommarow. It's advertised 2500lbs clamping force. Throw that in a 10 or 12 in wooden hand screw clamp.

I stole this pic from Instagram. The gecko style press lets the rosin stay in the heat while the small plate lets it escape and poop out away. This allows for 20 second plus press.

I am also unsure of what temps and pressures were used with the Gecko. Under 250f for sure. I repressed it at about 185F and have press flower between 225-275F.

Does anyone have a UV light they can put an uncollected press under, to see if the UV highlights the rosin for easier collection?

Pressed some Snoop Dogg OG bubble hash that was fairly low quality with quite a bit of contaminant. Think I pressed it a hair hot but it came out pretty good still. Pressed some other bubble hash about 40 degrees cooler and it came out SUPER stable.

So there does seem to be a max pressure limit with my ebay iron. I broke the top ceramic heater on mine a bit ago. . I had a spare ceramic plate so it was an easy fix to solder in a new ceramic heater. back up and running...

I had taken so many hair presses apart, I thought these had a thick aluminum plates but in my confusion they are actually the thinner titanium plates instead. I am going to fill the inside with some 5 minute epoxy to add some more strength.

My apologies for that misinformation though.

I noticed some buds I have needed to be pressed several times. This made me think that maybe I am not pressing long enough for the first press.

Here is a video of an unconventionally long press. (about 66 seconds)
how long do "you" press?

I do 4x individual presses back to back by popping the plug out of the paper and relocating itvon a fresh area of parchment. each press is about 10 to 15 seconds long but the puck remains warm in between so its a technique in and of itself

I was similarly doing 3x 10 second or so press normally with very little being returned on the 3rd press. I noticed that my ceramic heaters are only 1/2" wide and most of the rosin moved away from the really hot spot in the middle to the cooler sides quickly. So longer presses did not seem to be over cooking the rosin at all.

Pressed 2.7g of Snoop Dogg OG and got .49 back. Definitely a good amount left in the nuggs I'll probably blast them with some BHO or something next time I do. Pressed between 240 and 280 degrees.

Fuck You @Jared! :rofl:I barely get 18% yield from bho with the bud I get :\ I can't believe that is Rosin!

Please ship all rosin press yields to @BoogerMan. He would great appreciate your hospitality haha

Seriously though, keep up the good work. Shit looks amazing man. I bet it tastes/smells even better. Makes me want to move to CO to get some of that wonderful bud ya'll have there

How long do you press at that temperature @farscaper?

I got a press today and am having mixed results. Seem to still have to run pretty high temps to get decent results.

Pressing at between 290-320F. I need to get more pressure than the press is giving I think.

I put my full body weight on the press, but results are similar to the hair iron really.

It is at least easier to use than a hair iron. So not a wasted purchase!

I got this one by the way, all I could get locally in my country. Have removed the bottom sponge matting, and close the press to heat both plates when I use it.

I want the mega yields!

at the 240-250°F I get really great quality with my current stash. 2g in .3g out at this temp.

my question for you is, does that bottom plate float on the springs? if it does I would suggest trying to fix it in position so it does not float. easiest way to do that would be just stick a block under the bottom plate so it has a solid surface to hit.

also im not kidding when I say I still stand on mine.... thats why it sits on the floor not the table. more pressure the better!

The springs compress when the handle locks. The plates come together flush before the springs compress. Then locking the handle compresses the springs.

I did think about putting a block underneath.

Will try that next time, gotta get a bit more bud first!

Thanks man ;)

first foray into rosin - only looking to press 1g or so of flowers at a time
would these do?
thanks

Looks decent enough, temp goes down to 100c (about 210F maybe?) so that looks good. I usually press a G a time myself, it would be fine for that amount, but I break it up into 4 .25g pucks that I then pre-compress. Not sure if you are wanting to get 1g in a single press, seems a lot for a hair iron to me...

New Bubbleman video on the large Dnail press:

Pretty cool to see him squash out 40g of bubble in one press lol (Spoilers: got back about 13g in the first press )

Personally I'm not that high on manual presses, any step up for me will be pneumatic purely due to physical limitations, but I can see the commercial use for these as a low cost high yield option
