Bones I HIGHLY doubt its the machine that is your problem fella.......

if 50 kids go up to a shape arrange toy and correctly match the pieces
to the corresponding matching shape compartments and 49 of them do it
correctly , yet there is one kid that cant see to get the same results
No teacher would blame the toy.....

here is what is bothering me

Ok, I got good results the first time imo with the
240 F oven decarb for 35 min, soy lecithin unsalted butter
@ the temp MB2 says for 2 hours...

But I see where other people are saying its better to do a 4 hour cycle
or a 3 hour one, 2 hour cycle then 1 hour cycle.....

Hate when things like this are brought up because it always leaves you guessing
since there is no concrete evidence either way and results vary so dramatically
from one person whos cooking to the next

We are switching to coconut oil and going to use some better weed
The stuff we had was high grade but not quite as mean as what you usually get
But now im afraid to mess with the time frames on how long to let it run in the MB2

Please let me know how this goes as I am getting my MB in the mail in a few days. I've picked up 16oz pure Virgin coconut oil and that sunflower stuff that was recommended.
I will be throwing 1 oz of high grade bud and using the 2 hour Mb decarb and then a cycle.. can't wait to see what happenes!

You're right about the chocolate being a bit soft. You need to keep it in the refrigerator and try to make your coconut oil or butter really strong so you don't need to use much. You can also make the no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies with peanut butter. Make sure you wrap them tight they dry out.

I've heard folks using BHO or shatter and mix with coconut oil but you need to decarb the BHO or shatter. You don't need very much oil that way because it's stronger. I've never tried it but may in the future.

If you can get some RSO or make it that would fit well into chocolate or any recipe because you only use a little tiny bit. It's the Rick Simpson Oil. I won't say anything else about it because this is the Magical Butter Maker thread, but check it out.

CarolKing,
Someone needs to invent a mixing attachment to replace the immersion blade. When using the MB for tinctures, the dry material becomes so pulverized that neither the included strainer nor mesh coffee strainers are capable of filtering out the fine particles. This in turn leaves a less than desirable final product.... I've switched to manual methods for tinctures because of this inconvenience.

well the move from using butter to coconut oil has come

its a no brainer, it simply works better at getting a full conversion

  • 87 percent of coconut oil’s fats—or 12 grams per tablespoon—is saturated fat
  • 51 percent of the fats in butter—or 7 grams per tablespoon—is saturated fat

its proven that saturated fat is the most important element in this process
and coconut per ounce has almost double the amount

But here is what I dont get,
(and if any of you MB2 owners have some input please share)
is why do they say only a hour in the machine for coconut oil
when the 2 hour cycle would be perfect ?
Someone called Magical Butter support a month ago and they told him
to use the 4 hour tincture cycle for coconut oil

so what gives, what time do you set your coconut oil for in the MB2

I really do appreciate all feedback here, a forum consisting of a lot of knowledge

One thing that might help is to let the tincture set for a few hours (or even overnight) before straining. The sediment sinks to the bottom of the machine and what you pour out is pretty clear.

This has been a chronic problem. The manual that comes with the machine is full of misinformation. And you will get different answers from Magical Butter depending on who you talk to. I've found that the Magical Butter Users United group on Facebook is the most knowledgeable group when it comes to answers about this machine. And most of Magical Butter's advice is now based on their findings.

2 hours has worked great for me. Anything more and the final product is too sedative for my tastes.

I dont understand why they wont say it str8 up
the answer of dif strokes for dif folks should not apply here
because most of it is down to an actual science
I guess ill try the 2 hours, def looking for the most psychoactive
properties, so the last thing I want to do is run it for too long
Thanks for the reply

A question I have to ask again is .....
how do you all store your infused coconut oil ?
mines coming in a tub so I cant use that. IM planning on
keeping it outside of the fridge in a dark rather cool area

Did you actually ask to join the group? There's a ton of information on that page. They also have a file section that members post recipes, charts, etc. to.

how do you all store your infused coconut oil ?
I store mine in a quart mason jar in a dark, cool cupboard.

i store mine in either of these type bottles. i like the 4 OZ dark ones. i used to keep a bunch of capsules in the cupboard but i keep them all in the fridge now. some of the caps kept melting a bit. i have quite a bit of oil so i keep most of it in the freezer and make capsules as needed.
2hhjdp2.jpg

2 capsules get me buzzed, 3 get me high, 4 makes me uncomfortably high. i made 4 batches, the last 3 were - 3 ounces of bud to 16 oz of coconut oil. good to the last drop. :)

First go round with the butter machine. The results were good but they will be better next time as I understand the manner in which it's configured, and I have a suggestion that I'll end this post with.
My intent was to prepare oil for a batch of brownies. As many of us here do, I had one half cup of ABV and a half cup of coconut oil, but this does not come close to reaching the minimum level. Because the ABV is always ground it's more compressed and loses height. Yet I ran the machine for one hour under minimum level and it did cycle through to completion.

So, this machine is great but for larger quantities and not for ABV. I can see utilizing it as intended with larger quantities of virgin bud with the specified minimum amount of coconut oil and using the oil for pretty much everything.

How long will infused oil last before losing potency and is the refrigerator the best place to store it?

Suggestion: How about a Magical Butter Mini Machine that has a minimum level of about half, or a drop in adapter configured for smaller quantities?

Very glad I bought the machine; I see nothing but potential here. As is, in its present state, I'll continue to use the cold infusion method for ABV brownies, and use the butter machine for more interesting projects when a half ounce of virgin bud is available.

But I'd love so much if it was adaptable to smaller quantities...

Coconut/cannabis oil will last a long time unrefrigerated. I have mine stored in a dark cool cupboard, it's a dark green color when warm.

I think that's an excellent idea to have some sort of a adapter piece that would make the MB smaller for those occasions you can't fill the whole thing up with product.

Exactly. For those "rare" times when a half ounce of fresh bud is somehow not within reach or disposable.

somthing like this but with coconut oil..?
http://www.hightimes.com/watch/high-times-kitchen-marijuana-tincture

So i want to try a cycle with
10gs of "Headband" ---top shelf?????---
*16 oz of coconut oil
2tbls lecithin

as for time i am still unsure as to now reading someone say 4 hours on tincture???

*(will the 16oz be too over powering of the 10gs? should i maybe take a few oz of oil out to sit just under the min line?)

--(is head band even top shelf.. like i was told..?)

IN THE NAME OF SCIENCE I PRAY THIS WORKS ANY THOUGHTS, COMMENTS OR IDEAS are welcome before i start tuesday!

thread does not get many replies

still really hoping the coconut oil alone gives us a noticeable difference]
hoping using the same amount of herb as well as the same strain
doing it the same exact way as last time only thing switching is from
butter to coconut oil? Without a doubt , it will be more potent, just for that sole factor?

Ten grams into 16 oz of oil is not likely to be very potent. If potency is your goal, you probably need to use more weed. If you've read back a ways in this thread, you'll find that most of us are using a full ounce of weed with the same two cups of oil, resulting in a dosage ranging from a teaspoon to a couple tablespoons (depending on personal physiology, tolerance, and other variables). At 10g/16oz - nearly a third of the amount most people use - I fear you might end up measuring your dosage (of final product) in ounces and being quite disappointed. Unless I'm missing your point, and your intent is to make deliberately "weak" oil.

I think it's better to let your oil settle then pour out. You may not need to strain. You can let your oil settle a couple of times and pour into another container. You may keep more of the goodies.? I'm trying that out anyway. You get a little settlement in your jars at the bottom but not much. If your jars are a little warm the oil will be liquid you can just give them a shake before you use them.

Here's the sludge at the bottom after I poured the oil out not straining. This is looking down into the Mag BM.

This is the coconut cannabis oil. I started with 24 oz oil. I didn't lose much.

This I will pour and let settle 2 more times. I think it should be ready after that. I kept all the sludge, not sure what I will do with it?

I used 2 oz of duff and 1 oz of top shelf. I needed 24 oz of coconut oil to cover it all up. The duff was only $50 an oz. I need to see how potent it is? I only let it process for the 2 hours.

I did decarb in the oven on 220 in foil for 40 min. Then I let it sit to cool. I hope I didn't make a mistake by not declarbing in the MB. I used the MB to decarb last time and it turned out good. I just wanted to try the oven this time, in the name of science.

EDIT
If it's too weak I'm putting the sledge back in the oil and process it for another hour. Last time I made oil I let it process 4 hours but it makes me really sleepy, so it's not good for during the day.

My canna cooconut oil is very sedative. Last night I took a tablespoon of the oil and felt too tired this morning. So i took 1/2 tablespoon tonight a little while ago, it hasn't kicked in yet. It won't be anything I can take during the daytime. The oil was made with a combination of Indicas and Sativas and has a really good nutty flavor. It doesn't taste bad at all taking it straight.

The leftover sludge has a bitter taste and a grainey consistency.

I was fortunate enough to come by some very nice Hindu Kush leftovers from bud, 3 oz of shake. So it was already somewhat fine. I put it in the MB and did the decarb at 220 degrees for one hour following @MrNaturalAZ method. I used 22oz of the coconut oil and 4 tablespoons of SunFlower lecithin, the oil was enough to cover the cannabis shake.

I then processed the oil and cannabis for 4 hours under the oil method at 160 degrees. I wanted my oil to be strong so the dosage wouldn't be much. So the process was a total of 5 hours including the decarb.

The coconut oil that I made last time turned out great, I ended up needing about a tablespoon to help with sleep and pain before bed.

I let my oil settle after it was done for about 30 min. I didn't strain mine as per MrNatural's method. I poured into jars and left the sludge in the bottom of the MB. I then let the oil settle in the 2 jars then poured again leaving a little of the sludge in the bottom that had settled in the jars. The oil is fairly clean at this point. Even if there is a little sludge in the bottom it won't matter.

I had a sore knee so I applied some of the leftover sludge on my knee holding it on with some gauze for 30 min. I got really sleepy an hour later and took a 3 hour nap afterward. :zzz:It must have been the combination of the applied cannabis sludge and I had tried out a teaspoon of the oil. I had also rubbed it over my sore hands too. I'm not sure if my knee felt better or not? I'm sure the body absorbs the medicinal effects through our skin that is why I felt so sleepy.

I also slept fine over night even though I had a 3 hour nap earlier. I took another teaspoon of the oil before bed. That had been almost 8 hours since I had taken the other teaspoon earlier in the day.

I am happy with the results so far. I didn't lose much oil in the process - maybe 2 ounces is all. When you strain you lose so much oil, I like this method better of letting the oil settle then pour. The oil has a nice flavor and I think it's going to be strong enough. I kept all the leftover sledge to rub on sore joints.

I think one of the key things are decarbing in the BM at 220 F with the oil and not straining the conventional way. I think you lose a lot of medicine straining.

I'm curious if I could put it on the tincture setting so I wouldn't have to keep turning the cycle back on. Give a shout out if you know, that runs for 4 hours. Glycerine is thick like the oil so it would be the same consistency.
