Thanks for your response! I'm with you in that I'd rather not inhale anything that isn't a cannaboid!

So.... If I don't end up getting a TC device, what are some good tips? Don't let it get glowing hot seems to be the easy one. How about pulsing? I would imagine that would help too.

I know the AC runs at .8 ohms and I think that 4-5 volts should be enough to run the Dual coils....

So can anyone tell me what gauge Ti wire will get in the .1 - .6 ohm range. I want to say the Ti2 wire I got from uptech was 32g? and ran higher ohms than I want. I just went back to the dual coil AC atty and it does hit harder and a little faster than my 28g Ni200 wire I think but 28g is way easier to wrap.

I guess I will try some Ti2 30g and see where it runs at? Also taking a bic lighter flame to springy ti wire does take all the spring right out of it and makes it more malleable.

i have fired Ti on an unregulated device and it almost caught on fire.

Yes, this is the only problem with Ti that we briefly discussed over PM... I didn't want to cause a scare but Ti wire if it reaches a certain temperature ( since people will read this and may worry I won't put a number because I myself am unsure as to what it EXACTLT is) will ignite the surrounding air and anyone who's ever had there oil ignite from too low of resistance coils ( yes the vapor can ignite) knows that blowback is not good, especially when your device is held next to your face...

So bottom line as stated, only use Ti with TC devices, otherwise your not doing yourself any good...

needless to say. i am DONE with nickel wire and will be using Ti only moving forward.

here is the link to the info i found

I had put this link up weeks ago. I don't think this is convincing, either. The fact that a metal can form toxic salts or that nano particles can seriously irritate the lungs doesn't in the least settle the case, unless it's actually happening under vaping conditions.

The people who have the equipment to test with are generally out to demonize ecigs, that they see as a way to "cheat" on their antismoking crusade.

No point in spreading more hysteric tales of doom and BS rumors. We do NOT know how Nickel reacts in a coil, and whether any toxicity results. And any wire blasted with a surge of unregulated current will make like a light bulb ;-)

There ARE reasons to think Titanium is less likely to create dangerous compounds, who knows about nanoparticles. I happen to choose Titanium largely because i can feel Nickel irritates my lungs.

28 gauge ti wire makes 8 wrap coils on 2.5mm drill bits in the 0.3 ohm range.

On the majority of TC devices with a Nickel curve I see that the Ti offset is 90 degrees. In other words you set the target temp to 360 F to get 450 F on the titanium wire. It's accurate enough. For people who are satisfied with routine use of a VV/VW device, ok. For anything where there's experimentation involved, TC rules.

Titanium dioxide is nontoxic, used in food. But inhaling ANY particles could be quite harmful. The smaller the worse as they penetrate deeper. It's still a poorly explored area of toxicology. Just our luck.

We really don't know if nickel, nichrome, kanthal or which of the Titanium grades are safest as coil material. All these pots and pans analogies are meaningless.

I have 7 Ac dual coils on hand and they do rip great when they work (520f on evic), but sadly they all jump out of TC mode for me now. :(

Looking for good seller for ti2 wire.
I been looking into SS317 welding wire, SS316L surgical wire.

Any good leads yet? ss317 and ss316l are stainless steel ya?

Hey @2clicker check this out, called the Pi2 (squared) postless deck! May just be perfect for your DBC, even though it cost 130$. Let me know if you've seen it already.

Well there was no TI wire locally, So I got nickel in the mean time to start this quest...

Let me start by saying this whole endeavor has me questioning my comprehension skills.

That being said. What the hell is up with wattage on TV mode if I have it on 500°f
Does it matter if I set it on 40w vs 75w?
Also what do the ohms mean when the coil is on the atomizer?

I did try google, but I found no plain English idiot style answer.

Now to the coils...
I tried wrapping 10 or so times and couldn't get too much visible vapor, then I tried 5 wraps and it is producing crazy! But almost too crazy. I need a happy medium in my life...

It would also be dope if I could figure out how to put a good nickel coil build on the stumpy...single or double.

Finally any good suggestions on what kind of juice mixes well with wax taste wise? My understanding is that I do want to use some to coat the wick (cotton) so it doesn't burn?

Not sure if it's real (science) or unfounded (FUD), nor if it matters much for us, but a number of e-cig reviews of this RDA express concern because the entire central (positive) section is made of copper. Their fear is that copper plus e-juice plus heat is not a good thing to breathe.

Wasn't really concerned over the issues of that one, I just liked the idea and its cool to know that post less RDA's are available. Hell in the future, this may be how just about all attys would be set up, I don't see why not, only leaves more space for builds. But thanks for bringing that to the light anyways, good to know for that specific model, thanks.

So after about a week of coil building with this stumpy rda, I've come to the conclusion I know very little. Not getting the e-nail size hits I have expected. I am wicking with cotton wetting it with ejuice to not burn the cotton and placing the wax directly on the coil, pulsating to melt it in and then doing the dab. I am using 28 guage nickel wire until I get some ti wire. Am I using the proper guage? Also is there something I should wick with that will work better for dabs? I have read ss works well, but would it be fine to use with nickel wire on a tc device? Any help would be greatly appreciated....i have a free day and hope to buold something by monday, that will get me where I want.

I see some 28g grade 1 Ti wire on the ebay now (99.5% pure) from a few different vendors. Is there any health concern with grade 1 Ti?

If you are using grade 2, where are you all finding it?

  • Grade 1 is the most ductile and softest titanium alloy. It is a good solution for cold forming and corrosive environments. ASME SB-265 provides the standards for grade 1 titanium sheet and plate.[4]
  • Grade 2 Unalloyed titanium, standard oxygen.
Grade 2 is pure then?

Edit: Grade 1 alloys are listed as Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Carbon, and Iron.

pulsing is a great idea. just practice it with the cap off so you know how long to pulse and how often. keep the glow away and you are golden. even w/out glow you may heat your errl a tad much, but you likely wont notice it and as far as i know should be totally fine.

no doubt. ONLY use Ti wire in a temp limiting device!

yeah i knew you had posted it as well. and im no scientist, but he makes a good point that there is a reason that we arent using nickel for food processing and medical uses. in my eyes finding the safest option and using that is ideal. i dont know sounded legit to me. rumors...? maybe, but not not for sure. im not spreading doom and gloom. im spreading my opinion and that is that nickel is not a good wire option.

On the majority of TC devices with a Nickel curve I see that the Ti offset is 90 degrees.

i find on my Evic that the temp must INCREASE 80-100deg with Ti over nickel. if my nickel temp was 420F then my Evic must be set at 520F to get the same/similar performance.

I have 7 Ac dual coils on hand and they do rip great when they work (520f on evic), but sadly they all jump out of TC mode for me now. :(

i still have experienced the evic "jump" twice. both times the leads were loose. once tightened all was working perfectly. oh and a random note about the evic... there is an evic mini about to drop and the size is perfect! im so getting one.

oh and i would also like to hear about more Ti wire vendors.

good looking out DC! someone else here has a postless RDA. i forget who it was or what its name was but it looks similar. i will def be checking out the Pi2 tho.

have you tried doing exactly this minus wetting the wick with ejuice? i ask because i have tried to "dab" off of a coil that had juice run through it first and also had shitty results. if you are in TC mode then your cotton should not burn even if it is bone dry.

the wire gauge shouldnt be an issue. esp in TC mode. and you can try SS as a wick some have good results and others do not. i have not had good results, but have been meaning to give it another shot since using TC. my advice would be to get some RXW or FC-2000. i personally have been enjoying FC-2000 lately even more than RXW. i have been using them side by side and finding that the FC-2000 will retain better flavor longer than RXW. when new, both options taste great, but as RXW gunks up the flavor degrades. im finding that with FC-2000 the good flavor last considerably longer. the only thing i can think attributes this is that the FC-2000 is less porous. it does not wick as well as RXW so there are less nooks and crannies for the oil to get stuck in. with FC-2000 the oil does not soak into the wick and in turn vapes away faster and without any leftovers. no idea if this is accurate lol.

and finally i wanted to share a link to the Evic Mini that is coming soon. i really wanted the IPV D2 due to its size/form factor, but because the dry coil warning it has been removed from my wish list. and then i found this! this is what the Evic SHOULD have been the first time around. oh and this one is firmware updateable!

Titanium and Titanium alloy are 2 different types of material. Both types have its own grades.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titanium - Titanium is a chemical element. It is a lustrous transition metal with a silver color, low density and high strength. It is highly resistant to corrosion in sea water, aqua regia and chlorine.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titanium_alloy - Titanium alloys are metals that contain a mixture of titanium and other chemical elements.

In temp control pure titanium grade1 wire is needed for it's TCR. You can use grade2 because it shares the same TCR with grade1.

This wire comes very dirty with oil and its surface his a matte finish.
Explaining why the matte finish what it is. hhttp://blog.unkamensupplies.com/2015/06/17/hey-ralph-why-is-my-titanium-fuzzy/

http://www.sweetspotvapors.com/category_s/1854.htm They carry both types. The pure titanium grade1 label as "Ti Wire" and Titanium alloy grade2 label as "Ti X".
Much more expensive but comes clean and shiny finish.

Everytime I try to get my hands on SS316L and SS317L they are sold out!!!! And I dont feel like buying 1,000 ft from US steel companies :(. IM waiting on VaporDNA to get a new batch of 316L stainless steel wire to test it out on TC mods. TCR for SS316L is super low. Only 2 chipsets can set the TCR for it right now. Which is the DNA200 and the SXK/Geeco chipset.

DNA40,yihi sx,Siegel,evic,smy, can't do stainless steel.

ive got a roll of this and have not attempted to use it yet because of how dirty it is. maybe ill start soaking it in ISO before use. have you used this wire with a TC device?

thanks for the link. never seen these outfit and you are right, that is pricey. how does it compare to spider silk in price? ive been using the spider silk i have left because i only have a dirty ass roll of the unkamen stuff. i guess if i can get the unkamen stuff clean then its a good spot for wire.

@2clicker I have use UNkame ti awg 26 and 28. I have to clean them with ISO and afew quick pulses at 9watt. They work very good. Taste super clean, fast heat up time. The spidersilk awg 26 (.40mm)and sweetspot .40mm ti wire both was super clean and shiny. They are both tempted. The sweetspot ti was easier to work with. Had no springy to the wire when wrap. The cost for spidersilk and Sweetspot are the about the same $10 for 15ft. I still clean all my Ti wire with ISO until I donit see any marks left behind on cloth wipe. I cant tell the different between the tigrade1 from different places after using the coil.

one may say because it comes "cleaned", but its still dirty. still have to ISO clean it before use. id say the unkamen stuff is your best best cost wise.

I'm trying to order some fc2000 wicks, what size are people using 1/8th or 7/64th? I am not good at sizes

get the 1/8. perfect size for your stubby RDA.
