Still rocking my 1st gen double cart top

still convinced the 8 doesnt heat up as fast as it

maybe this is a result of the protection circuit and inconsistent pressure on button presses though
sort of want a touch button top but dont wanna buy a whole new persei :X if anyone doesnt like theres hollar :D
I agree. My 8 rocks on coil set ups but HeRc, it warms up slower. My touch button I don't like it either. Takes a bit to heat up from my experience. The hammer top is best IMO.

Fredster951,
HAHAHAHA, had my buddy try the dual coil 3G KISS (at a little over 6v) and the confused look on his face when he saw the sheer volume of vapor he was breathing out had me in stitches. So good... Kills me every time I demo it to someone. So many lulz.
Thx Gary

I was just about to order some herc ptfe insulators to replace the one I broke while doing a cleaning and then I remembered something like that came with the kiss ac. Those don't fit right? I'd love to not have to order a pack of them.
I ordered a pack of those a while back. Ill send you a couple. If you like.

How are you dialing in voltage? My iris says low ohms
Use core (preferably w/ an 8 or V1... Maybe an older HVD model; mine never seems to throw errors, just gives noticably less power when it's time to recharge) or as in this case where I was out and about (and don't trust my buddy not to thrash my stuff) so I used my 50w mod and an adapter. I just dial as high as it can handle (6.3V?) with the dual coil and pulse for a bit. I try to stay below 7 when using the core dice I'm used to that range. Can't wait to get myself a replacement globe and choose a new favorite spot on the dial (so much easier to stick to what I know when I can't see the magic happening).

What batteries do you use? And even when they are fresh off the charger?

I'm using IMR 18650 and 18350 (with SS kit) batteries, AW and Efest brands. I think the issue is my Hercules is cobbled together out of spare parts now. The ceramic rod is either out really far, or barely sticks out from oil chamber part. See below. It's not the PTFE insulators either, they're brand new.

This is the SR-74 part with low voltage rod.

The SR-74x part with white rod.

Neither one look right. High voltage one works though. Any ideas?

Possibly... if the 7.4 works, it looks like you should pull that 3.7 out a lil further. My spring loaded pin is literally no longer spring loaded. I just kept backing the rod out lil bits at a time until i got a tiny indent on the bottom of the rod. Probably not @THC SCIENTIFIC approved though. That was my solution originally to solving connection problem due to leakage.

@Silicon Advisor was already awesome enough to help me. It's very cool 2 people offered to help and I'm keeping my eye out to return the favor or do the same for someone else.

@SamuraiSam talked about it in the ov thread. It's for cannon style atomizers. He's got a link to some examples on dhgate in his post.

The low voltage rod is pulled out as far as possible. Can't screw it together if I pull it out more. High voltage one I can't push in any further or it won't complete the circuit, reads infinite ohms. I put in new insulators because Sam suggested they might be squished down.

I've also been wondering how those double coils cartridges work. Do both coils light up at 7.4V, and just one at 3.7V? Or is there a dedicated high/low voltage coil and only one lights at a time?

They work in tandem. Theoretically, they should heat up at exactly the same speed no matter what. In practice, due to minor differences in manufacture/assembly of each coil, they tend to heat up at slightly different speeds; after warming up, the difference between coils become less noticeable/relevant.

@Big Baby Jesus are your rods being held securely in place ? If they're staying in place ok and your having issues I'd be willing to bet it's the gold center posts having lost their spring and being stuck open/closed with a bit of oil personally I'd reccomend using the 71 center post that gets a much more secure grip on the rods

Quick help anyone, I need the proper OHM reading for Original SR-71 with white rod?? Thanks in advance:rockon:

Mine shows 1.8 Ohms

Thanks DieHard, :rockon:I'm getting 1.82 with bottom insulator and 1.79 without. Awesome! Don't want to fry a top. Lol. Haven't picked up my Hercules SR-71 since I bought it when it was first released. Got plenty oil now and want to give it and my Nibbler XL the attention they deserve:tup:

Just got a brand new 8 and I can't get it to fire at all with an SR-71 or AC. Any suggestions for me while I am waiting for Samurai Sam to help?

I completely disassembled the entire unit including top cap and button assembly. Very straight forward and good design. However I saw nothing misaligned and it still won't fire at all after reassembly. I am missing something here....

yea, I had to mash the button HARD. I took it apart like 5 times at the suggestion of the w9guys, what batteries did you end u going with?

also adjust the bottom threaded internal spring.

@sethhobrin

@sethhobrin I'm willing to bet you need to raise the 2 gold nuts on the top post or lower the bottom screw on your 71 maybe both

@sethhobrin One thing that I've found really helps is to always take off the threaded cap and screw the cart onto that separately first. Then screw the threaded cap and cart all at once onto the 8.

Start with the gold nuts on the 8 center post adjusted way up. As you screw the cap and cart down you'll feel resistance once they connect with those gold nuts. Stop once you feel solid resistance don't keep tightening it down.

Since you adjusted the gold nuts way up there will be a gap between the threaded cap and the 8. Use the size of the gap to tell you how much to screw down the gold nuts so that the gap goes away. I personally make sure there is always solid resistance on those final few turns. This way I know the cart and the gold nuts are making tight contact.
