I have announced the Okin Pre-order through an email to the mailing list. If you think that you are on my mailing list, but did not receive an email from me today. Please PM me with your email.

I will be opening the Pre-Orders on Sat. Aug. 8, at 3p.m. Eastern Time (Canada & U.S.)

The email that was sent to the mailing list today was filled with all the information required to place an order, etc. etc. etc. (it was long, haha).

If you would like that email sent to you, please PM me.

:)

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
I've been IN since day one of this device's mention after seeing the craftsmanship shown with the handcrafted smoking pipes Dan has done, (also helps that it's a fellow Cannuck, lol).... and I can hardly wait until release to enjoy this upcoming classy masterpiece

ps: Thank-You for not doing a pre-order... <--- I can't stand pre-order and crowdfunding campaigns personally.

^^^^^^ Bummer ! :ugh:

Guess after all this time I'm stuck waiting until it's order/ship/receive
And no way am I'm Paying in USD from a Canadian to a Canadian :disgust:

Really love the device and artisan-ship, and I'll be proud to finally own one.... but... ya know :mental:

@smokum

I just want to make sure we're clear. The pre-order is free. It's just a place in line. And is capped at 50 people.

Your payment is requested after your custom Okin is completed, and you're happy with it (I will send everyone photographs of their Okin before I request payment).

I wanted to do a pre-order for the first 50 people so that I can order my raw materials, especially the Milk Paint colours and maple dowels, which may have a lead time of 2-3 weeks from my maple supplier.

Knowing that customers are ready and waiting gives me much more confidence when placing those expensive orders and buying expensive tooling.

And, I list my prices in USD because a huge majority (90%-ish) of my customers have always been from the U.S., I don't know why that is, but it's always been that way. I thought it just made sense.

I'm sorry if at any time I made it appear that my prices were in CAD instead. I have tried to always denote that they were USD.

The CAD price for the Okin (today) is, $190. This price will fluctuate based on the daily exchange rate.

Excellent timing! Trevor from team grasshopper isn't replying to my friends request to get me on her pre order for the GH, so guess who is getting that money now instead? :-)

Yes, We are clear... the pre-order is free (no upfront payment), and it's a place in line.

Nothing personal what-so-ever, and all due respect... however, it's just not how "I" roll is all. Even though admittedly I fully understand the wise process this creates for logistics and investment, a place in line <To ME> is a place in time (you should hear the ruckus at the Dr's office when they try and book my next physical A YEAR ++ IN ADVANCE ??!!?? when I could be dead tomorrow), when I'm an OCD Here & Now type. <--- you 'did' notice the mental smiley at the end of my post, yes ? I most definitely was referring to myself ... I'm just being ME tonight, and speaking my mind.

I always realized the price was in USD, and seeing as your current new clientele is again a majority of U.S. & other Int'ls, it only made sense to state it as such. Yet, I can't fathom why it would be the CAD that would fluctuate and not the other way around when we're both here in Canada ? Are you going to offer a payment method that is CAD so as to eliminate the lousy PayPal exchange rates to my visa ?

Perhaps I should have shared my thoughts off forum (?), but my own disappointment of somehow thinking it was going to release once a bit of production was in place so that one would order, and the item would be shipped that day (or three), then, when out of stock, it couldn't, and got the better of me

PS: I think I'm just gonna stick with reading the forum tonight ... as this fuckin post took me almost an hour to do :buzz:

Oh I understand now @smokum ! Well fair enough! In truth, I try to be as Here & Now as I can... but I'm softening up to the idea of plans these days... who knows, maybe It's a symptom of getting old?

And, Canadian/U.S. customers will be billed in their own currency. So no worries about currency conversion fees for any of my fellow Canadians or neighbours to the south! (I will never, however, spell neighbours without the "u")

I don't see how custom pieces can be produced before they're ordered. I never expected the Okin to be an off-the-shelf item.

Perhaps (obviously), you know more about the fitments than I.... I foresaw either a small inventory of different stems, tips, different boxes, and charcoals, that I was going to be able to choose and purchase as they were made. Not so much 'custom' to that other than possible individual item fitment(s) in my eyes.

I now realize on Dan's end that it would not have been easy to manage/handle being a one man show, and I always knew that the Okin was never meant to be a 'mass' produced item.

In the end, Dan has laid out his plan of procedure... I voiced my thought of mind... the end ! If I felt opposed strong enough I have the choice of not purchasing, but instead, I'll simply wait a bit more and order once I can work with something more towards my liking and satisfaction and persona as far as time frame is concerned.

Today is a new day... I'm over it :|

totally agree, but will the bored customs officer? :)

edit: speaking of which. wouldn't the good man just sleep better, if he didn't know the real price of that artfully crafted piece of wood at all? as of now, the price is not revealed to the public, and could very well fall into the import tax free gift category. i doubt they frequent fc in order to verify every piece of art that passes through their hands, given they don't even know where they have to start looking. that said object of art is very hard near to impossible to be traced back. contrary to commonly known goods.

Beautiful functional art is my vote

If Dan would be willing to mark the package as a gift, my understanding is there's less chance of customs charges in the UK. Not sure what implications that has on Dan's end.

Impart duty/tax is a complicated subject. On one hand, marking as gift is illegal if it's not actually a gift. But this is one of those laws that everyone breaks...and I can't see it being enforced on such small packages.

But it does set me up for legal consequences. And for the UK, the gift threshold before you have to pay duties on it is something like $60 usd anyhow...

So I mark my packages what they are, Original artwork.

The HR code for this category of goods is, 9703.00

From Canada to the UK there is no duties on this category, but a VAT of 5%.

On the Okin, you would expect a duty cost of about $8.25 usd

Of course, there could be some variation on this... like I said, Importing goods can be very confusing, and until I ship an Okin or two, I won't really know for sure.

The above information was based on a duties calculator, hopefully its correct!

Wht I will try to do Is make the shipping cost as low as possible for UK buyers, and absorb the cost of shipping materials, this should help offset the duties cost. Hopfully that sounds fair!
