You should definitely get a backup vape, both for insurance and to have something handy for a change of pace. Normally I'd suggest you look into Solo or Air (and you might still want to), but they're pretty close to Summit in key ways. Otherwise, Vapor Genie and a personal favorite, Vapman, are both worth considering I think. Both are powered by Butane lighters (small torch type preferred) and put the user in control of the action. They are a joy to use once you get the hang of them and vaping, surprisingly efficient and under $100. In that same 'learn a lot about vaping by controlling the action area is Magic Flight Launch Box. All of them have solid histories and followings reflected in their threads.

When it comes time to lay your money down, you should also consider Puff It Up and Planet Vape, both strong supporters of these forums often listed at the bottom of the pages. Randy (at PIU) is a true Customer Suppor Hero. No better guy when problems come up. PV makes/sells some unique stuff and you can currently save like 20% on the 'spread' between their dollar and ours. I am a simulated old guy. Merely a hologram! In my 50's and I say no! Not old! More active than I was in my 20's probably as I was up all night and slept all day! Actually improving my lung capacity so I can run and bike and chase my little ones was key inspiration for dumping my pipe. I am also in the voice-over business and the shizzle was hurting my voice. Clients do not dig it when I can't get through 3 sentences voicing their commercial without woofing up a lung. Not pretty. Actually now my lungs are much cuter than they were a few weeks ago. Point being after all of the years of burning I am a convert and a very happy one! Fellow Luddites! Throw down that Dugout and be healed!! So with the butane vapes, no hassle? Seems less organic. Why better?

I sure don't think so. It's more of a ritual, you really 'get into it'. They are fun to use and I think more natural than something full of batteries for sure. VG can be very similar to traditional pipe smoking in fact. You put fire on one end, suck on the other. Sucking draws air through the heat exchanger the torch is heating and heats the herb. VM is similar, but you heat the bowl before hitting it.

Like I said both have long threads with strong followings. You might check them out.

I have been working with my Summit for about a month now. I enjoy alone and prefer small bowls. I seem to be getting better hits with my spare screen on top, but have here read that is not necessary. Better with topping screen or not? And grind & pack. I have tried "fine as sand and packed tight" as someone suggested. But in digging through this thread, someone else has said less fine and looser? This is my first unit and I have no basis of comparison. So, how do you load your Summit?

Having used an Extreme Q for several years I've finally decided to take the plunge and get a portable vape. I've on the fence between the Summit and the Flowermate 5.0S. While the Summit has a smaller battery, I am attracted to the rod (vs flask) form factor and that it can be charged via micro-USB. On the other hand the Flowermate is a lot cheaper (and for less than the difference I could get a car charger for the Flowermate thus making the USB feature less of plus). Anyone who has used both have any thoughts on which way I should go?

Howdy, welcome to the Forum.

I have both, and follow your logic, but think you're wide of the mark with the FM model, try the mini. It too charges from a USB, has several times the battery capacity of the Summit and is the same sort of size. The V5.0S is nice, but way different than Summit.

My take on the Summit, which I like very much, is it's not really a session vape. It just doesn't do a lot of bowls between charges. The Mini has about 3 times the battery available, does way more sessions. Summit excels at the 'top up' mode. Pull it out, take a quick hit or two, put it away. For a session it needs constant restarts and hits the battery hard.

After reading your post OF I did reconsider the Mini. Frankly one of the reasons I initially wrote the Mini off was that Puffitup was selling the 5.0S for $85... but it appears they are also selling the mini for the same price (well, 1 cent more if you want to be technical) so that pretty much seals the deal. Thanks for the input. :D

Funny, I found just the opposite. After a while I put it back on. Nice to have such choices.

BTW I also decided there's an up and down. It works better for me if the bowl is upside down (buttons down, charge jack up). Keeps my thumb over the button, too, that sucker is bright at night.....

Ah, differences are what makes this place so much fun.

I find using a stone, glass button or a screen on tip helps cut down on bowl stirring. I pack hard, too. Find it doesn't make too much difference if it is a flower or a grind.

I agree that the light can be blinding at night, that is for sure. Fun vape.

I am using a superfine grind with the spare screen pressed tightly down on top. Getting invisible tasties on low and high blue and clouds on low orange. Mostly staying in the yellow. I click my temp up or down while I am vaping to keep it from shutting down. Can get 20 hits from a half bowl packed.

I did remove the mouthpiece too. Great for going extreme. I enjoy the cool air the mouthpiece cover allows in for most sessions. Great option though! Like a turbo option! And I pull the cover off to clear it. Sort of like a carb. Faster cooling too.

Welcome! I may not be qualified as many here, but I love my Summit!! The variable temp settings assure you can vape invisibly or produce monster clouds. I spent this mornings session on the lowest temp setting and the flavor was delicious!!

Yep! It is pretty small. If you were say working at the DMV maybe not so much. But should be great if you are alone and have the means to charge it in your vehicle. Battery life is a few bowls.

It is, I think. Plenty small for most pockets, and being flat sided 'rides well'. A little large for some shirt pockets, but not all. Aces in a jacket pocket: Push the button, wait for the 3 buzzes, whip it out for a hit or two then back in the pocket. Shuts itself off if you don't hold the button down for 2 buzzes first.

FM Mini is a bit smaller, and an excellent vape in it's own right, but takes longer to get inn action (including assembly), is slower to stash away again (have to take the new hot MP off) but has longer battery life (say 3 or 4 times longer?

A friend loves his for 'walking the dog', and recommended it to me even though I don't have a dog....

That should work perfectly. Usually keep it pretty light during the work day.

Just ran a bowl through using the two screen method. I feel like I got denser hits at lower temps this way. Works pretty well, I think.

I gotta agree, this is a very discrete vape. I take it hiking a lot, on trails where there are a lot of people. It's easy to turn on, take a couple hits when no one is looking, then pop it right back into the pocket.

Can't say I've used a portable that's as easy at doing this. I mean, my portable experience is limited; I've only owned a MFLB, Lotus, and now this. But I've used the Divinci and the Solo many times as well. The stand-by feature is a real difference maker here for stealth. It allows you to put it in your pocket while still having it on without having to worry about forgetting it. It also does a lot to save the battery.

For the vaper on the move, this is a great unit.

I have been using the extra screen that came with my Summit as a topper and I am getting much better vapor at all temps and fill levels. I actually am using blue more than ever as a result. Nice, yes?!

I would definitely liken my work situation to hiking. Do you find any issues with those bright lights i see people mentioning in reviews?
