Herb Grinders

thanks ob - for $20 it's worth a look see, regardless.
again the simple rosewood 2 piece is perfect enough for my needs.
there's no magnet, it jams up sometimes when you turn it because wood is imperfect,
but it produces as perfect a grind as I can imagine.
when i'm vaping with my VB, or SSV, I turn it less so it's less fine -
for the PD I like a finer grind, so I turn it a few times more - it's that simple.
Stickiness is not an issue if you dry your weed before grinding, no matter what grinder you use.

the reason i like the 2 piece better is because i have, at this point, no interest in separating the kief for future usage.
i like getting as fucked up as possible with the material that i have at hand as a constant.
the idea of dialing it back and removing the kief so i I don't get as fucked up as I can, but maybe saving it up to make hash, is silly to me.
what's the point in buying premium product if that's what you're going to do?

jeffp,
thanks. that makes sense. what size did you get? it sounds like the medium maybe? will getting the PD stems in there be an issue or will you just empty it out? would it be an issue with the bigger one?

saw it after the fact. I guess sometimes I need to be more patient. thanks.

one note, I can turn my 4pc grinder into a two piece by just removing the screen. If I then grind it upside down it would in essence do the same thing. does anyone else do this?

i got the small one, i just turn it upside down and tap to dump the contents out, and I presume like with all grinders i'll wedge out a few stray particles with a pokey stick.

this talk about grinders is a fun preoccupation but i think in the end the outstanding issue regarding vaporizing with different vaporizers is being able to adjust the fineness.

I did do this with my 4pc for awhile, but it was just a bunch easier with a 2pc. Also, I noticed that when I took off the bottom piece( the piece that holds the kief) so that kief wouldn't spill back through the holes when I turned it upside down to grind, the grinder lost some rigidity and caused some of the teeth to rub against each other periodically. Didn't like that at all, so when I took that into account along with the fact that I wanted as much kief in my bud all the time, not just some of the time, for me, a 2pc was a no brainer.

I use a coffee grinder on medium setting and just use short bursts to get the perfect texture. I use a higher setting to make a powder to cook with milk for hot cocoa. ;)

isn't getting the kief stuck in the 2pc a problem. I know how hard it is to get it out of the bottom of my 4pc I can only imagine how difficult it is to get it out of all of the teeth. how do you deal with that?

Two things. One, is that I have the titanium SC and the surfaces are a bit more slicker, so it doesn't stick quite as much. Secondly, the kief doesn't stick any more to the teeth of a 2pc than it does to the teeth of a 4pc. And as far as how I get out what little there does gather, I just use one of those really small brushes that come with an electric razor. Works great.

sorry for the barrage of questions and thanks for the answers. do you use the grinder to store after you grind or do you dump everything into another container? based on your previous answers I was all set to go buy a two piece. everything you said made sense to me. then I went to the shop and everyone there tried to talk me out of the two piece. they said all the kief gets stuck in the grinder and is not worth it. even online, most everyone prefers the 4pc. I guess I do not know what I am saving the kief for. I would rather just have in on the herb when I use it.

What matters are your needs/wants. I prefer the 4 piece and am considering a 5 piece. But I save the kief for later use. It comes in handy during times of no herbs. It vapes very nicely in a Zap, I just have to load it (straw) verrrry lightly. It also works well in the LB. I have a decent amount saved and since I started freezing the herb (and the grinder) I collect a lot quickly and am thinking of making oil with it. I like having options.

I'm gonna pile on with another 2pc space case recommendation

I've practically started a grinder collection lately, but have basically just been using the 2pc medium titanium space case.

Turning a 4 pc upside down works ok for getting a finer grind, but its a little goofy and i swear doesn't work quite as well (altough true test would prob be 4pc space case upside down vs 2pc space case instead of random 4pc grinders vs 2pc space case)

I do still dump the ground herbs onto a screen for sifting, you don't have to give up on sifting when using the 2pc, just need to buy something else for sifting. i might be getting a bit less kief than when i was just using the 4 pc, not dead sure yet but i think the finer grind is worth it.

No problem. Ask away. That's why we're all here, eh?

Being that I got a few of those gram sized SpaceCase containers, I just grind a bit, dump it out on a half folded sheet of paper and funnel it into the SC container.

What your shop told you just doesn't make any sense. Why would the kief stick more to the teeth of a 2pc than the teeth of a 4pc? Either they are misinformed, or they just wanted you to spend more money.

And yeah, 4pc are more popular because of a few reasons. One, is that it gives you more options regarding when you want to load your bud with more kief or less kief. Lots of people like having those options. For me, I came to the conclusion that I NEVER wanted to have less kief in my bud. If I wanted to get less high, I just wouldn't vape as much. If I wanted to get more high, I'd vape more. Secondly, is that a lot of people just like to have more things to play around with. Lots of people like rolling joints just because of the ritual of it. I think the same thing goes for kief collection, but after a year of using one, this aspect of grinding became more of a hassle than anything else.

Hope that helps.

I use a plastic 2 piece grinder that came with my MFLB and that works fine since it grinds the plant material fine but not into a fine powder, but when that goes I'll just get a wooden 2 piece grinder like jeffp posted about.

thanks again. I just purchased a medium two piece space case which I am excited to try out tonight. I did look at the gram sized space case containers and was a bit surprised that they do not make those in the titanium as well. they only come in the silver which is odd as the titanium is supposed to be less sticky. Lwien, do you prefer those cases to say something in glass? just curious on your thoughts on those as well. thanks.

I wanted a container that really was no larger than the amount of bud I wanted to store in it because the less free air in the container, the better. I purchased 4 of the SC containers. 2 that held one gram each, one that held 2.5 grams, and another that would hold an eighth. If I could have found glass containers that small that were also as air tight along with not letting in any light, I would have given those serious consideration.

btw, SpaceCase makes these containers in two styles. A cylinder and a disc. The disc one would be perfect for portable use. Lays flat in your pocket with no chance of breaking or coming open. I like the cylindrical ones because you get some depth of the herb, which makes loading up a PD stem really easy.

One is made in SoCal, and one is made in NoCal.

Teeth/hole patterns are different.

One gives you options in two different finish's, one does not.

I <3 my Scout grinder, and my Scout grinder sifter.

Provides the edpth of the cyliner storage, with a perfect size grinder on the go. The grinder/sifter one is also, and my prefered grined when going on extended vacations somewhere.

The standard grinder sifter, is my beach/boating piece.

thanks man I didn't know SC are made in SoCal. Where ? Is there any SC smaller than 2in. Also my 1 1/2 Mendo looks like the aluminum is coming off, I wipe it with a napkin and it looks like black grease with aluminum and I have already wash it. I bought it from Roxndave maker. Should I try the SC ?

I'm partial to Space Case. :D

I think everyone should have one, and should acccept no substitute.

It's not the aluminum coming off. Sounds like either A. Unit was sanitized properly after being manufactured. Or B. Just normal tarnish. Im willing to lean more torwards the later, as the guy's at Mendo know what they're doing and its highly unlikely the didnt clean the unit before shipping.

On the other hand, I would highly suggest NEVER getting a chromium crusher. The people that would use a Chromium Crusher I.M.O are the same kind that would use an Easy Vape Vaporizer. Garbage, garbage, garbage.

HeySlick; Yeah, that just sounds like normal tarnish. I'd imagine you've had that unit for a while, or get heavy use out of it. Something to possibly consider is the Ti Space Case, I have yet to hear about this happening with those particular units. You cant get a 2 peice Ti S.C for under $20.00 if you shop around.
