Thaks NYC. She was a tough one to convert too. It's taken me almost a year.

That's great to hear. I have a few friends that are being stubborn. I gave one friend a Zap and he never tried it. He had it well over a year. I got it back in May. I know him, I know if he gives it a chance he'll love it. Maybe, like all things, it is just a matter of the right time for him and this wasn't it.

The RZ2 should be a fine evangelist for vapor. It's really a nice session experience through and through and could easily handle a few good hits consecutively without a rebound for when friends come over.

IMHO, in my friend's case, the hits just weren't big enough for her in the older version. She had finally converted to vapor, but was using a whip. With this new RZ, she took that first hit, her eye's got real big, and, well... you all know the rest of that story. :ko:

I have also noticed that there is no rebound period with the RZ. The hits just keep on coming.

one comment on the refurbs. I think (and I will just speak for myself) that I would be willing to have my current logs re-turned and possibly lose some of its current wood, to get the full install with ceramic vs. just installing the SS. I imagine that the ceramics make a difference and I would be much more interested in a refurb with the ceramic included than without. Just my :2c:

+1

Hey Rick! Long time zap owner/FC member...its been awhile since ive been on FC and forgot my password (new email) so I created a new account. Anyways, a few weeks ago I went online to order some new stems because my one stem is pretty old and gross, but noticed the new refurbish option! I have been holding out buying a new stem because I want to do it all together, so if you need a (paying) beta tester for a refurbished zap im your guy! Thanks

PS MZs are the shit!!

Does anyone who has a RZ also have a traditional wood insulated SSSZap? I know the RZ is a monster, but I'm curious how it compares to the traditional SSS.

Man all these glowing reviews are just making me want mine even more, with any luck she'll be in by the weekend :D

I do
Nurse Myrtz is a SSS Zap all wood, while Mabel is Rockzap
Nursey hits well and heats up fast, but will cool between hits after a couple of good ones.. and needs a second to "snap back"... not bad---> I never gave it a second thought... until now.

Actually I had started noticing that second to snap back, how long do you think it is that you wait... ideally?

Maybe 5 seconds depending on surrounding temps. never more than 10.
On one older cooler running brass unit It was ideal to give it up to 15 seconds.

But now.......
"STEP RIGHT UP..... No Waiting" :brow:

Thanks Vito. Do you feel you'll ever use your SSSZap again? I want to get a RZ, but I don't want it to make my current Zap obsolete.

There is that refurbishing that Rick is offering, but I believe that's just to turn old brass units into SSS. Maybe there will be an "exchange program" in the future or something. :/

Yes.. I will use my SSS zap again. All of the time!
I use them all... I will use my brass Zaps all of the time also!
I have one Zap that is not used for Zapping at this time.. Ravin'... who diffuses oils. She can't muster up a decent hit...
She is the one I will submit to Rick for evaluation and determination of whether she is a candidate for
Refurbish. I will wait until all of this dust (wood dust) settles first!
***Trust me... your "old gal" won't become obsolete.....
If anything you will go on joyfully experimenting to see the fine and subtle differences between them.
A guy like you would get lost in such a study!!

@guitar - I'd say 200% more efficient than a whip, but it's hard to gauge. You'll notice a good stretch in your herbs, no doubt.

I do apologize for a new design, then another that really hits the ball out of the park so soon. On the other hand, you have to admit we did this very quickly. The production change required for the RZ2 happened very fast and is here now. The only wait seems to be customers picking the right style/shape/color/etc.
We are running into a little thing here with a decision being made, then a request for a different one. It was easier in a way during the old days when I did not show what was done. We are finding having an actual store shelf with different choices available for delivery right away also presents problems. Choices. Wake up tomorrow and look again, well, maybe I like that.
Like SFGiant. You made a choice, it is ready to go, then this AM you want another choice and have posted you expect it this weekend. We're good baby but not that good.
Don't get me wrong. We are here to please. Sometimes that takes a bit more patience and time but we can do it. We also are trying to hone in on styles that will be popular. I got a request this morning that sounds very nice and we will do it and it may turn into a regular offering. That good customer already has an RZ arriving today.
Logistics, decisions. Never had to do that much as AZ just cruised along in the right lane in the past years.
Retrofit with SS closed bottom heatport in traditional wood insulated design will work well. Removing the old port is the biggest problem without damaging the wood. I did a couple more yesterday and they are doing fine. The RZ2 retrofit is another story and will need more attention. We have to grab wood differently for the RZ2 install. Then we do major boring. The old Zaps are not so easy to hold and drill properly because the wood has changed shape over the years so much. Holes are not the same and the same problem for the outside shape. We are still working on this part of the retrofit program but soon the price will be up there good because of all the labor involved. Probably less labor in building a new unit from scratch.

I'll have some more news later today. Another morning in town taking care of other business.

Rick, dont get me wrong, saying i hope it comes by this weekend doesnt mean i expect it. Take your time man, i appreciate you working with me to switch, when each piece is totally unique its a big commitment to buy one without holding it yourself, i just wanted to make sure my decision wouldnt be one i regretted for years to come

Rick - I want to make up some silicone sleeves to try on a Zap tube. What is the length of the exposed stainless / brass tubing on a Zap tube? Do you know if Ed uses the same length? Ed?
I like how you have your website. It is nice that they can see what they are getting and you don't have the pressure of making it after the order. The custom jobs are great too. Really satisfying the customers.

Can you shorten the Zaps when you do a refurb? If so, then just cut a tenon (about 1/4" loss of height)on the top to hold it for the bottom bore and then jam chuck it on the bottom bore while you turn off the tenon and finish the top. Bobo should be able to show you how to chuck it for the tenon cut.

The only way I see around the suffering under an abundance of choice problem is have a website strong enough to display pictures of each individual zap. Have you thought about using Etsy.com for now? This will help with the beauty-wood pieces, as everyone could see a few pictures of each individual piece and it will save you big time on re-worked orders and returns.

On to the continuing RZ (no 2 now, since it seems like it's the final design) coverage.

Have any of you guys notice that the RZ is way less prone to clogging stems? It doesn't seem to make as much of the goo of oil and duff that solidifies or something. And this may be the new stem, but the vapor tastes "cleaner" than other Zaps I have, even the RZ1, which has no wood in the airpath.
