Underdog Log Vapes

I've been enjoying my UD very much since I got it not long ago.....so after a week or so of use these are my observations.

I really love the Nong's as well as the SS tips that I purchased and made my own Song's out of them by throwing a thicker diameter silicone tubing around the SS stem and smaller piece of attached silicone tubing that they came with.

The smaller inner silicone tubing it comes with serves perfectly to hold the larger ID tubing with greater ID onto the SS stem. The larger tubing then sits deep enough into a 14mm down-stem (or adapter) on a bubbler to then seal the 14mm opening hole and still have the sides of the 14mm glass wall support the SS stem with only a little movement.

Although if you use a larger piece of silicon tubing it isn't a big deal either and then you can also use it as a very short silicone whip to further help cool the vapour.

I would put up a picture but I haven't figured out how to post a pic from my hard drive yet.

The Ailanthus wood is much nicer in person - even though the pics are very nice too - and I'm not sure if it my imagination or not but it seems to be a little darker than when I first pulled it out of the box. It's a very nice caramel coloured wood with a very interesting grain structure running through it.

The shape of it is also incredibly nice to hold in the hand in either orientation. I am very happy with my purchase and made sure that I loaded up on a lot of accessories. My best advice for anyone thinking of a purchase is to load up on Nongs.....18mm's are the best .....that way they can sit there all loaded and ready to be used in any social situation.

Give your friends who are over their own Nong to care and feed as they like during their visit (take a deposit first .....lol) ......just leave the UD on and beside a bubbler and let people help themselves .......especially if they are "BYOW" visitors who bring their own goodies around to share.

The jury rigged silicon "song's" are more compact .....but the 18mm Nong's are big enough to sit up without falling over. I think a perfect accessory for the Nong's would be a strip of silicone thick enough for the tip of the SS stem to penetrate up to the crimped point and yet have a nice thick backing remaining. That way you could load up all your Nong's and insert them into the silicone/rubber strip and slide them into a small plastic case for travel.

I also like the way that the SS stem hits harder that the glass stems due to the addition of conductive heating over a greater surface area:volume of herb ratio..... by letting the stem sit against the heater for a bit before drawing (i.e., smaller vol of herb to a greater vol of ss conductive contact area with the heater).........as well as the regular convective heating that you also get when drawing air through it.

I think that the glass gong's that I purchased (2x long, and 2x short) will serve their "higher" purpose when I get my VVPS and then I can use a higher heat to get the same vapour density as with the SS stems.......as well as using the extra available space for bigger loads or a larger loading area to position concentrates either on a bed of herb or within some organic cotton.

After getting my UD, I decided to sell my Solo to a friend who would like to get into vaping.....this freed up some extra money to join the Massdrop for the newly redesigned version of the Mighty (new housing, firmware upgrade, 2 min timer, etc).

With the Arizer Extreme V-Tower (Earlier Generation Extreme), my Underdog and when my Mighty and Grasshopper arrive, I think that I will have the perfect variety of vaporizers for all my purposes........except for maybe a Sublimator :o

........Hmmmn, maybe something to think of for Christmas?

Hmmmn, is this feeling that I'm feeling what has been commonly referred to on FC as VAS?

But for right now - I am enjoying my UD immensely......even without the use of a VVPS.....basically because of the extra heat drawing conductive power of the SS stems.

Underdoggette (Amanda) was also of great assistance in processing my order and even though I thought that I had everything I needed in the way of a crap load of extra accessories.......I was also happy to see some nice little extra's arrive with my unit that just seemed to round out the purchasing experience very nicely and also give me some neat little extra containers to play with.

But I think that I'm going to have to go look for steel versions of the wooden dowel tools now though.....they work really well ........but I did snap the end off of the thinner one used to help position the SS screens in the smaller diameter SS stems.

I also find myself using it for aromatherapy .......I purchased the Cedar and the Lemongrass and both are very nice in adding a nice, non-overpowering scent to the room. I got 6 copper dishes so that I could have multiple essences on the go at once and just switch out to whatever I am feeling like for that day......so far only a choice between the two :).....but that will change with a visit to the local health store.

I'd be very happy to hear of other suggestions for room scents that other people have enjoyed.

So, all in all, one very happy customer here! Thanks Underdog & Underdoggette

i too am loving the nylons and wish i had the foresight to have ordered more but alas, no

i shall need a supply run methinks

or persuade another uk chap to order a UD and chuck a load of stems in muahahaha

but seriously, dry hitting through the nylon is my current weapon of choice and it is wonderful, 2-3 nice hits and i float away to my happy place

2 hr update, topped off with two more stems and off to bed, night night all

Thank you very much.......currently enjoying my Underdog and a little too lazy atm to get them up .......but will do so in the next few days.

Later Edit:
Ok, now it makes sense - I was thinking that I should be able to upload images from my hard drive but it looks like I need to link it to a web based picture site. I'll have to look into this more when I have some more time and patience as I otherwise have never had a use for such a service before.

I've seen the battery box power supply that many on this thread have recommended for their Underdog and which I was also considering in addition to a wired VVPS.

But now it looks like the same company that created the box that many UD owners have recommended has come up with a slightly higher spec'd box that can take up 5 batteries for a max of 21W....and also goes up to 13v as well.

I have ordered one to try out for potential portable usage in addition to the Gophert CPS-6005....... which can output CC or CV from 0-60v DC and up to 5A for a max rating of 300W.

A definite overkill for the UD but potentially future proofing for new toys in the future......and another pass-through outlet for the Mighty when it arrives since people on that thread seem to have problems with the cord failing.

Just thought I'd share the details of this new box that I'm sure many UD owners would appreciate. Oh yeah, it also has a little flashlight built in ......just in case you drop anything and need to look for it  I'm sure that I'm the only one this happens to :)

Nice find GTAVaper, I like the looks of that battery pack.

I was browsing around on there and found this one as well that takes 8 batteries.. I suspect that might give an UD nearly a full day of run time! :science:

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...-Laptop-Battery-Pack/1178406_32313565808.html

Actually I saw that one in a thumbnail and didn't investigate it further since I thought that it was only 12 or 24 v which is not what the actual information shows though when you look at the specs as it allows for voltage steps of 0.1v between 12 and 24v.

The other one that I purchased is like the older style that has been shown on FC quite a bit, in that it only allows voltage steps of 0.5 up to 13v.....which is why I wanted it in order to use the 12, 12.5, and 13v range with my UD.

I might have changed my order too; but my order has already been shipped. But at least I can console myself with the fact that I have a flashlight on my unit and it also comes in black. Yippeee! :)

I actually purchased another battery pack for my yet to be shipped Mighty from MassDrop

http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00HFMUBYG/ref=pe_386430_121528420_TE_dp_1

and only got this other one from Aliexpress for the UD since it was adjustable between 12 and 13v as the unit that I purchased from Amazon doesn't step between 12 and 13v.

The 5 cell pack that I purchased doesn't have the amperage to run the Mighty; but the new box that you've found looks like it would power the Mighty easily as well as the UD.......and even in 0.1v steps.

Very nice! I think a lot of people who have both Mighty's and UD's would be interested in the new unit that you've identified. Too bad they don't sell it in black. :disgust:

Okay fellow members of the dog pack...You're gunna have to help me out.

SO now that I finally have all the pieces to my battery pack puzzle ( the pack itself ( white one from China recommended all over this thread), the batteries and the battery charger ( because I want those batteries to charge faster, right?

Anyway, the batteries are charging right now, but once they are fully charged how do I go about installing them into the pack? Also, how to I turn it on and is the voltage setting just a display or can I actually change the output?
Sorry if I worded that poorly, but I pretty much want the low down on how this thing functions. The manufacturer's directions are very inexplicit and foreign.

The batteries go in the back, you'll need to remove two screws. The single button turns it on/off, and it can adjust the voltage up and down by .5V increments. You will hold the button to toggle between up and down. Holding longer shuts it down.

Ok..Uh...
Maybe I am doing something incorrectly but...
I got home from work, took the batteries off the charger and started to slide them into the battery pack. After inserting the second one, two of the coils connecting to the batteries already in the pack started to get red hot and shriveled up...I am very confused.

I managed to bend the coils back into place and reinsert the batteries with none of the same effects and now I have it plugged into my dog. I know its giving off voltage because my phone can charge off the USB. However, the voltage just says 082 on it. I can do the up/down switch. It looks like dP for down and uP for up. I can also see the .5 come on the digital display everytime I hit the button, but I cannot tell if its heating m dog up. I will report back in about 10 minutes...

Wat up peeps!
I've been getting all my friends and such to get on the UD side of things, and everybody is very happy with the decision. Problem is, I've been depriving myself. Nomore though since I ordered me a mini and a battery pack off eBay last night. I'm not a fan, but this seems like the perfect spot for a Git 'ER DONE[7]

Didn't get hot enough. Definitely getting hot, but seems like its running at a low voltage. This is dissapointing, was hoping to have a beach day tomorrow with my pup.
Sorry dude was disc golfing! When it said 082 that could have been battery percentage, you toggle between percentage and voltage with the button, you need to be on the voltage setting to go up and down. Good Luck, let me know! That pup needs energy!

I have received my Mini and UD and little bit disappointed.
On mini dog the heating element a little wry (not by center). But this not a serious problem.
The second, the main, that after 20 minutes of heating I didn't receive results like I saw on youtube. Look likes the power adapter problem, because the same issue for MiniDog (10 minutes heating).
Also all I received it only one breathing out (opposite the 5-15 min session on Solo).
I'm very confused, because my current Arizer Solo is 5/5, and my first 3 tries on UD could be measured only like 2/5 opposite the Solo.
I'm hope that I'm doing something wrong or power supply not working properly, because in other case I wasted more than 220$

Please help

Hi Raz0r, sorry to hear you're struggling to get your UDs running how you want them.. we'll see if we can help but will need a little more information.

First off, what power adapter are you using? Ours or a 3rd party one? Are you using a VVPS?

Try letting them heat up longer and see what your results are: try 30 minutes for the mini and 1hr for the regular UD.

As for the heating element in the mini, they may or may not be centered and either is fine.. it makes no difference so no problems there.

Strange that it need 1h, also when I have asked about it, I got response

Standard heats up quicker than 20 mins

Also I can say that max power consumption I have measured it's 9.4w and 0.7A
Also, the best results I got with glass stem, but before adding stuff I moved screen deeper, so I can put more stuff here.
One more - after vaping stuff not changed it's color to brown like after Solo

Tried with 20-30 min heating[/QUOTE]

Ok, our included power supply, thanks.

Your measured power consumption is right on so that's good.

Generally the best results will be with a steel tipped Nylon Stem.

If you move the screen deeper in a glass stem you'll significantly reduce the temperature thru the material other than at the very top. A small amount of medium-ground material with the screen in it's original location usually get the best results.

As far as heat up times, all Dogs are different and so their requirements will be different. I say to try a 30 minute heat up on the mini and a 1hr on the regular Dog so we can eliminate that variable while trying to help you. :2c:

My UD has become my go to vape!! I leave it plugged in 24/7 so it's always ready to go. Mine runs hot so while I wait for my VK from @VoltageKeeper I have lowered the screens. I really like the fact it runs hot as I get huge clouds out of the bong, the closest to an actual bong hit from the vapes Ive tried!! I like the glass stems the best but the nylon stems get me the thickest vapor just not quite as tasty prolly due to the high temp of my dog. I also find I can run out of vapor mid hit with the nong. Big hits!!:borg:

@underdog i was wondering if I run the risk of damaging the heating element leaving it on 24/7 since it does run hot? What is the standard depth the baskets are set in the glass stems

If you have a VK on the way, I wouldn't worry about turning it off. Once you get the VK, you can just turn it down a bit and it will help prolong heating element life.

Yes, it should be fine. :) Though like @Madcap79 mentioned, it would prolong the life of your dog (the wood and the internals) to turn it down into a standby temp when not in use.

Exactly- thanks man!
