The Grasshopper Shipping Poll

When do you think the first Grasshoppers (in BOXES!) will ship?

Wow. Really disappointed in today's update. No mention of the seemingly high failure rate and what is being done to address it, no mention of where they are in the shipping process (i.e., are backers getting them yet, how many units have actually been shipped, etc.), and really almost no news at all. :hmm:

Something I read on Reddit yesterday.CLICK

Before the introduction of robots their failure rate was 25%. This is from an established company, even with the bots the failure rate is 5%. Kind of put it into perspective really.

The fact the defective units are making it out the door is another conversation entirely!

So Hillary, we finally meet.

Just kidding. I am the owner of the second grasshopper that shipped with Ms. Hillary Clinton's.

I brought the device out today to test it out but did not get much use out of it as I was busy, on the way home I tested it out with a few drags. It seemed to work well, but as I arrived home the device flashed red indicating it was dead. I am unsure if the Grasshopper team charged it before it was shipped, but now the back end is getting abnormally hot.

As stated before I cannot get the back end off of this device. It seems to have been screwed on too tight or on the wrong thread. I can't tell you how many times I tried to unscrew this...

I don't know how the quality control is but it seems that someone is using a vice to hold the device while it is being worked on (to hold it still), yet there is no padding between the vice and the device - causing blemishes, dents, and other damage.

Frankly I don't think this should happen:

(disclaimer: The above picture did not happen. But who knows it might...)

Letting the device sit until a replacement is in order.

Try putting it in the freezer for a bit then unscrew it.

New estimates this week!

Just like last month, and the month before. And probably next month, and the month after.

I'm tired of estimates. I just want a vape!

I really wonder how many people would have supported this company if they'd been told in 2013 that we wouldn't have a product in hand until sometime in 2015...or later?

The device's dial to control voltage does not turn well (feels crusty). It's as if there is no lubrication. I don't really want to fiddle with the device. Waiting to return the device for a replacement at this point, but I am in the process of moving.

Honestly, not to scare you, but I really wouldn't use that hopper any more until you have a replacement if I were you. I definitley wouldn't leave it charging unattended either.

Explains the janky GH's that got sent maybe? They were not there to even see what went out possibly?

Seems like if they actually went to China, that would be something they'd mention in their updates- they are working so hard to make this the best vape ever that they flew halfway across the globe to make sure...

The disconnect between "we discovered a couple of problems and corrected them" and then continuing to ship product with defects is mighty weird. Not talking about the scratches either, though that's totally unprofessional.

Round trip airfare to Asia is not cheap and the trip isn't really that fun to make IME. They wouldn't be going all the way over there unless there was a very serious problem in my opinion.
Quite possible some serious problem that needs attention, BUT, could also be, in addition, the next development stage of Grasshopper's growth involving manufacturing details we can't even come close to knowing anything about. I remain positively optimistic that Grasshopper is on the right track and ahead of the pack.

You may be correct however they haven't gotten the current stage under control yet. With all the ongoing problems and admitted lack of trained personnel and production capability it seems more likely that if they went to China it would be because of a serious concern.

@t-dub - I cannot disagree with your premise - but I feel that there is still too much room left for speculation to narrow our view. My sense of things continues to suggest that Trevor et al are extremely capable and driven engineers who will endeavor in all that is necessary to make good on the original dream and then some.

Not sure its been confirmed. It was mentioned in a post in reddit with absolutely no concrete evidence
Their update from March 15th started as "Greetings from China" and explained they toured several factories. Or are you thinking there was another trip?

I was under the impression that the aforementioned China trip is the same one they took months ago, no?

Agreed. Thats why I said it was my opinion. In my opinion, if things were going smoothly, they wouldn't be spending the $$$, the time, and going to the trouble to go all the way over there. Their admitted lack of trained assembly staff, production equipment and procedure, and continued QA problems suggest to me that something is not right. In my opinion a trip overseas for next generation development would be premature at this point.

The reddit post being discussed above implied there had been an additional trio to China, that may even still be under way

Yea, I don't think that Paul guy on reddit has any source. He is a brand new preorder who didn't know about the hopper until recently...

I think he is talking about the march one...the way he is talking (and there is a lot), it seems like he doesn't know the whole history.
