Bad Neighbor Stories...

FML~ Been in our new town home for 2 months and am having beef with so many neighbors! FUCK HOMEOWNER ASSOCIATIONS!!! Fuck them right in the ass.

Tonight I walk out side, and walked into a neighbor cleaning what appeared to be spilt paint off the street in front of our place (note this is not in my driveway but on the common road). Without a hint of instigation, she comes at me with this crap about how I ought to be cleaning this and we need to take care of our drive, etc.

I told her she can clean the street all she wants, that is not my responsibility... She felt otherwise and thought I fucked up the pavement- but the crazy lady did not care to hear that I had not even been at home the last 3 days and had nothing to do with the mess she was so upset over. Having just come through a nasty operation, there is no fucking way I am going out scrubbing pavement (anytime I look down my nose bleeds again).

... hell, even in the best of health, I would have probably told her to piss off, but instead I used my more colorful language.

I am still pissed they wont let me park an equipment trailer on my property, which would allow me to transport and build even larger giant RC airplanes.

I can't condone your new neighbor's nasty approach, but I can admire a neighbor who wishes to take pride in the appearance of their immediate neighborhood. Wish mine did ...I am always picking up after them just so our street looks respectable and cared for. Hell, someone's gotta do it! Cheers!!!

We live in an area where there's farms, expensive houses, average homes and dumps.

Well we just got this new neighbor around the corner and first he puts a San Francisco 49ers flag up, we're in Seahawk territory. I know he should be able to hang whatever flag he wants but he does this immediately when they move in. Kinda like he was making a point. He allows his 3 year old to ride his trike on a busy road with a sharp corner close and glares when we drive by. Then he puts up all these children at play signs up. Don't let your child play in the road. Then this is in his front yard today.


When I stopped to take the picture he came out of his house and watched me. I just waved.

Don't get me wrong, I am all about keeping my shit looking GREAT. Without question in the past months we have converted our unit from one of the darkest to the nicest in the community. I have dogs and pick up every piece of shit, don't leave trash out anywhere, keep garage shut, etc.

I do have issue with being all bandaged up (kinda obvious- its all over my face) and being nagged over petty shit that I had nothing to do with.

We live down a 1/4 mile long dead end road and there are just 2 houses down here. In the winter when the bushes die off, both sides of the road are all lined with Busch beer cans so either the neighbor tosses his empties out on the way home or he tosses them out when he is leaving home. Either way, he is drinking and driving and now that my daughter is up and running around think I need to do something about it.

There is literally beer cans, touching beer cans, touching beer cans in places so thick it's clear he has been habitual for years but not sure how to deal with him as of yet. I have only talked with him once quickly at the mailbox as he was in his car trying to hide his open beer can. I used to drink and drive as a kid, but I don't have tolerance for people who do it now. Guess it's the father in me.

My neighbors have waged a holy war against the birds. They are pressuring everyone in the neighborhood to cut all their trees down and leave cats outside. I just wrote about it on the FU Thread.

It's funny because many of them are church-going, but they seem to have forgotten who created the animals.

@FlyingLow , I feel for you. HOA's are some of the most bizarre and unhealthy organizations. It's like a haven for wannabe fascists.

A lot of the housing stock is tenements here, so really it's the luck of the draw who you end up sharing a building with. The big problem seems to be people just leaving crap lying around in the corridors and it drives me mad. Construction materials, bags of food (great for the mice), ladders, bikes... it's a fire hazard and makes the place look like a tip. There's also a prime example of 'broken windows' theory in action as from my experience, as soon as one resident starts a lot of people soon follow suit because they think its acceptable.

I got stuck with the neighbours from hell.
They burnt and pissed on any one within reach. They even turn on their own.
20 fucken years every one in the street have had to put up with these pieces of shit.
They give trailer trash a bad name.
They have just received their marching orders. 2/3 more months and its over.
I can feel a street party coming on.
Good riddance to fucken trash.

I don't have very horrible neighbors - thankfully my street is pretty quiet with mostly old people who never leave the house, then there's my neighbors across the street - talk about inconsiderate white trash.

First off they literally park their POS Jeep parked right behind my driveway so it's a tight squeeze to back out of my driveway on the narrow street. Despite having plenty of space in their driveway, they always park at least one vehicle behind our driveway at all times. Anything bigger than a compact is impossible to back out our driveway thanks to that jeep.

On one ocassion, one of the teenage sons has backed into my wife's car parked on the street (for an hour) while backing out of his driveway and left a scratch in the paintjob and a bent headlamp (we let it go since it was minor damage and we were new to the neigborhood at the time, but still they never said "woops, sorry for hitting your car!").

I've also seen them do an oil change on their jeep on the street. Next morning I noticed something leaked and basically they drained all that fresh oil right on the public road. Did they clean it up? NOPE, they drove right over it and left a nice stain on the concrete right in front of their house with a tire tread going about 200 feet down the road. (Should have called the EPA on their ass)

I've seen the mother use the leaf blower and blow all the leaves from two giant trees in her front yard to the neighbors yard with NO trees in their yard. Like doesn't even care, I took pictures with my camera I just couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Once I even saw this bitch come home, get out of the car, walk over and pick up a rolled paper advertisement from her driveway, then toss it 3 feet over to the neighbors yard!

When it snows and the snowplow FINALLY comes to plow our narrow street, guess who leaves their jeep on the street despite plenty of space in the driveway? Yep. I could go on with examples, but you get the idea


I grew up in the countryside where a steam-powered train rolled through the valleys in the summer and the power went out every time there was a bad storm. It was boring and quiet with no kids my age to play with. I couldn't wait to move to the city/suburbs when I grew up. Now the older I get, the more I can't wait to move out of here!

I don't mind the HOA so much. And yes, it has bitten me more than once. I knew what I was getting into when I moved here.

Did I get upset when I was sent the letter saying I failed to obtain a permit for a permanent structure that wasn't permanent, had to have my driveway cleaned, mailbox painted, etc.... Well...yeah, I did get a little pissed off...who the hell are they to tell me what to do with my own property!?!?! I'll tell you who they are....they are the folks I'm paying to keep my neighborhood in decent shape and sometimes its me who I'm paying them to remind about keeping things up to snuff. My HOA isn't heavy handed or lacking in flexibility which makes it easier to work with than some.

My Bad Neighbor Story:
New family moves into the neighborhood (Half block away) with a mid sized spaniel and a old mastiff. I start to hear about the owner not cleaning up after his dogs, refusing to leash the dogs when walking, the spaniel being aggressive and the husband's overall bad attitude. The first time I run into the new family (Husband, Wife, Teenage Daughter. Teenage Son) is when they are walking their dogs, on leashes and are cleaning up the poop one of their dogs did on my other neighbor's property. I introduce myself and everyone seems pleasant to me. I walk away thinking these folks are getting a bad rap. A few weeks go by and I start to notice that my lawn is building up a nice collection of dog poop. Its killing my grass and isn't pleasant smelling in the Florida heat. I'm walking my dog (lab/pit mix) late one night and their spaniel comes running toward mine from up the block, off leash with the guy walking quickly toward me with the old mastiff barely keeping up. I remember hearing the spaniel was aggressive and yell to him that my dog is part pit and for him to please get control of his dog. Note:My dog has never put his teeth on anything but did hackle up, growl and nip at another dog at a dog park when it tried to hump him so I'm not thrilled about the meet up even though his dog is half the size. All the while he is screaming for his dog to 'come'. His dog was scooting around sniffing my dog and my dog is trying to keep the new dog face forward and my leash is tangling. His dog eventually did a low growl but by then the guy was there and grabbed his dog by the collar. I tell him I was pretty worried there for a minute and he says something about the size of my dog and walks off bent over still pulling his spaniel by the collar. I didn't catch much attitude from the guy so I'm still unsure he's what the first reports imply. I think..Maybe he was just letting the dogs out for a quickie on his lawn when I came by and he wasn't going to walk the neighborhood. Could happen to anyone. A few weeks later I'm getting ready to go out for a morning run and I see him and his son walking the dogs, empty bags in hand, off leash so I go back into the house and sneak a peak through the front window as they come by. Sure enough the mastiff takes a huge crap on my lawn. The father and son, keep walking by my house without picking up the crap. I come out of the house and trot toward them and ask them if they wouldn't mind picking up their dogs crap because I'm going to mow the lawn and it splatters and stinks. The father looks me straight in the eye and says his dogs didn't do it. Ok...now I know what I'm dealing with...I tell myself I'd be wasting my time with this a-hole and I tell him 'I'll take your word for it since you're with your son and no father worth a damn would ever teach his child that his word is worth less than a pile of dog crap'. I was pretty proud of my quick wits there but the look on his face and the sneer on his son's face lead me to believe I didn't get through. I also told him that I had the lawn sprayed that morning and if the dog did get it on his paws and licks them he'll be fine with the exception of a little drooling and diarrhea although with the dog being so old it could be worse. I don't know if I got through to him or not but I do know I haven't seen any more stray poop on my lawn and I haven't seen his dogs off leash in awhile. I doubt it was me though...probably one of my bored neighbors waited to snap a pic of the guy and send it to the HOA .

My mother had a neighbor who chose not to get garbage service ($5/mo) and would pile it up along the side of the house, never hauling it away. She complained because of the influx of rats. They received a citation and the garbage seemed to get cleaned up.

When they moved out, the home owners (the people were renters) discovered that in addition to letting their dogs crap and pee freely all over the house, they had stuffed the attic full of all the garbage bags they had stored up for many, many, many months.

I had an upstairs neighbor who blasted dance music so loud my walls vibrated. When I went upstairs to complain one last time, he sneered and suggested I had very sensitive hearing. He moved out a month or so after I demanded the manager take action.

I live in a country setting where folks live on a couple of acres. Our neighbor was foreclosed upon and my husband thought he was being nice and allowing our neighbor to stay on our property for a little while in his camper. wE have known him for 20 years. Months ago we asked him to leave and he has refused. He also has all his things all over our land. It has turned into a nightmare because he has other people living out of another camper now.

We have contacted the sheriffs dept and they say we have to get an eviction notice through the county. That means taking time off from work because they only do that at certain times of the day. Fuck being nice. We have a company's name where you pay them $65 and they are suppose to do everything and get the squatters off your land.

Don't ever let anyone stay on your property temporarily because now since we gave him permission they are tenants. Sometimes things just aren't fair in life.

I think it's time for some Blackberry Kush.

I work with a guy (Steve) that has a neighbor who started mowing a small part of Steve's property. So Steve put up new fences. The neighbor then cut down the fence and started planting a garden on his property. Cops were called and the neighbor is claiming he has been maintaining Steves land for years.
Steve says they are now in court with the neighbor trying to take Steve's land by adverse possession

Yes, Keep people off your land. WTF..

@CarolKing you would think the Sheriff or county would make them move.
I'm sure its not legal to have a bunch of trailers set up.
But I know in the country they different codes compared to city codes.
All I can say is wow i would wait for them to leave and drag there shit to the dump...

My husband said that he would attach the pickup to his trailers and move them. This guy has all his worldly good everywhere, it's not just the 2 trailers. I said we will give this Landlord Services a shot. A person that I know that deals with foreclosures gave me the name and number. $65 isn't much to pay if they are able to handle this for us. I haven't talked to them yet. I'm calling today.

We had given our neighbor a 10 day notice twice. He probably doesn't think we are serious. I personally didn't think it would come to this. What's wrong with people? He asked in July to temporarily stay. Now it's like we have a homeless community behind us.

I'm not putting up with someone taking over our land. We paid for it and pay yearly taxes and he thinks he's going to squat on our land? I don't fucking think so, I'm really pissed. I'm pissed also that the sheriff can't do anything.

That truley does suck. You were trying to help you shouldn't feel bad they brought this on them selves.

So sorry @CarolKing. It never ceases to amaze me when someone does something nice, and in this case, super nice, and gets burned like this.

You did a one in a million kindness and instead of being thankful that you did something nobody else would do they took advantage of that kindness. People like that get a karma catch-up and then do a 'why are these things happening to me' when the catch-up occurs

One of the reasons I like Judge Judy so much is that these type of kind acts and the 'no good deed goes unpunished' aftermath are a constant on the show and the karma catch-up occurs right before your eyes. Very satisfying. What takes away from the satisfaction is when the person who was helped is asked for a defense and says 'They have more than we do so we deserved their help and then they tried to take it back... so we're the victim here'. It's at that point you realize the karma catch-up occurred but they didn't learn from it and will likely take advantage of someone else given the opportunity.

Maybe you should take them to small claims and apply for Judge Judy. What many people don't realize is that just because small claims awards you the verdict the person who is fined isn't going to pay anyway.

Please be careful about moving the freeloader's personal property. You could very well open yourselves up for a very nasty costly lawsuit, particularly since you initiated the eviction notice process. If even a pre-existing scratch or dent is on their truck and you move it, they can claim your moving it somehow caused it. Further compounding your woes, if their personal property is moved off your land and a passerby takes it all away, you may be held responsible for at least triple and possibly punitive damages. Also, avoid if at all possible any further verbal correspondence with these people. If they insist on making any comments, ask them to put their concerns or comments in writing ...then you say no more. This is a legal-adversarial matter at this point. Even though you are 1000% morally in the right, these squatters have legal protections.

Not to be off topic, but I was trying to think of bad neighbor stories, but I can't. My neighbors have always been awesome. For whatever reason my dog is in love with my next door neighbor, and tries to get into his yard through any means possible. If he sees him he won't go anywhere until I take him over to say hi.

My other neighbors at my parents' summer house are also great. They helped me get my pills when I was without a car, without a mailbox, and half an hour away from the closest CVS. Without them I'd really have been up shit creek.

I guess the worst I've had was a neighbor who called the police on my house when he saw my friends walking through my yard with bottles of liquor. Still, I have to forgive him cause he was an old guy, and his wife has severe dementia. Plus my friends were underage, so he technically wasn't wrong. Nothing came of the police visit anyways.

Should have mentioned above .... I don't understand why the police wouldn't do their job unless they are afraid of these squatters (I've seen this before and it amazes me) OR the squatters are claiming they paid rent/bartered for the right to stay. In either case - please consider getting a restraining order ASAP. It may be the only way to get the police to provide the protection you may need. Especially since they've already shown they won't deal with these folks under the current situation.
