FWIW, I do an iso rinse and evap, then use it to make dog biscuits. I have a German Shepherd with hip displasia, and a weiner dog with cataracts. Doesn't do much for the cataracts, but at least she doesn't mind bumping into things so much. The pups love it, and it's way better than even baby aspirin for the shepherd.

I don't know that THC in small quantities is bad for dogs - or good for them - but I wouldn't be making edibles for mine.

My dog jumps up for some second hand vapor a couple times a week on average. He usually only wants a couple light second hand hits, then goes on about his somewhat buzzed business. More than half the time he doesn't even seem to notice or care I'm vaping, but sometimes he'll jump up on the sofa and get in position as soon as he sees me messing around with my vape gear. Not saying he has any idea what is good for him and isn't, just that he enjoys it and will add that I've never seen any problems with him or other dogs I've had or known that seemed to like it. Just have to keep the dosage very low.

Best info I found from someone that has some idea about weed and dogs is here.

I think the biggest problem is usually the amount of marijuana they get relative to their weight. And, assume it is even worse for them after decarboxylation. This is one of he biggest reasons I keep my ABV in a sealed can. Also keep any edibles far out of his reach and put any dirty cooking leftovers and cheesecloth in a separate bag that goes straight to the outside trashcan. If my little 20 pound or so dog got into my stash and ate 1/2 z that would be a whole different thing. Then again, imagine what the bad trip would be like if someone who weighed 200 pounds ate 5 or 6 ounces!

2 things...

1. Dogs. My current dog just doesn't dig secondhand. Not smoke. Not vapor. I am disappointed a bit, because his predecessor was a straight up weed head. I couldn't smoke (pre-vape) without him getting right in my face for a hit. He would actually put his nose right up to my mouth and I would blow until smoke came out his flapping jowls. It was hilarious! He never once choked. Would come back for more, then lay the f out. :) Had to hide my stash where he couldn't get it too. Nothing makes you regret introducing your dog to MJ like ripped up baggie pieces.

2. As to the thread topic: Until recently I had only used portable vapes. Now that I have a desktop with glass, I noticed the residue collecting. I wondered... and now I know!

I've never dabbed before. I have to start collecting this.

Didn't realize you can clean in ISO and just let it evaporate to get some reclaim too. So you just keep reusing the ISO until it gets nasty, then let it evaporate?

A few different takes on this, check this thread and look in the same area for QWISO (quick wash ISO) and reclaim. Can be done with fresh bud, or to reclaim residue from vapes. Can even run your ABV through the process if you like. EDIT: And HERE is the thread I meant to link to above!

IMO it's better to save up the gunky glass, clean all in ISO and evaporate sooner rather than later. I've used the same ISO for about a month and evaporated it. The result seemed more harsh and nasty than usual (evaping right after cleaning), but too many factors involved for me to say this was definitely the cause.

I think it's nice to try if you're up for it, and many do enjoy it. But, I like what I usually do now a lot better. Just scrape all the goo and whatnot off your glass dry and try to reclaim that way. Flavor is MUCH better, no need to do the whole ISO thing (evaporate, then scrape it up) and don't think you really lose too much in yield. It would be hard to measure just how much, and have never even tried. After I scrape all I can, I use ISO for final cleaning and save that same ISO for later cleaning.

Really liked your dog story, too. Is funny how some are different like that. My last dog was much more of a weed hound than my current one. Funny thing is, though they are the same breed this newer one is a goofy dumb ass, and the other was the smartest dog I've ever had! I still love the dumb ass, but if you've had a few dogs am sure you know what I mean.

When I was a teenager we had a German Shepherd that I would take on walks to get out of the house - and go get stoned with my crew. Poor dog would get stoned silly because everyone (me included) would hold her head and blow smoke in her face. After a few occasions of this she would get bugged out as soon as someone would light up. Once we realized this wasn't cute and was pretty mean, we stopped. Yeah I know... but give me a break, I was a stoned 14 year old! Anyway, after a couple times of not doing it, she started to sit next to me or one of my very close friends that she knew well and wait for us to blow some at her. Apparently she liked the smoke (and the buzz I suppose), she just wasn't too keen on somebody grabbing her head and holding it there while they tried to blow as much in her mouth as they could. FWIW, she was a pretty damned smart dog, too. If they could only talk!

@gaseous_clay ... Sorry forgot to mention this and too late to edit....

If you enjoy edibles, another good way to go is to heat some milk to boiling or just below. Drop your glass in and give it a few stirs until it is "clean". Should only take a couple minutes at most. Carefully pull your glass, let it cool a bit and rinse very well in hot water. Or, could cool and ISO to clean as usual, but if you've done what you could to clean out the reclaim you're pretty much just washing the milk out.

You can drink the now "fortified" milk or put it in another beverage (coffee, hot chocolate, tea, milkshake). Be careful as it can be hard to gauge dosage. Sometimes it is lighter than expected, sometimes it is pretty damned strong. I usually let my solo stem get pretty gooey and the milk trick will provide two very nice servings. Don't know how long once boiled milk will last in the fridge, but I've used milk a week before date on it and had no issues refrigerating for a couple days.

Downside is (or is for some) that you have to ingest it. Upside is that it is very quick and simple to do. Edibles like this are nice if you are going somewhere that you can't easily vape and want to have a buzz. I like to drink the milk in coffee or tea, then do some vaping around 1/2 hour after. The edible buzz usually gets going around 45 minutes after ingestion (tho sometimes as long as 75 - 90 minutes) and kind of slips in under the vape buzz. It's also very easy to top off with just a vape hit or two for 4 - 6 hours - sometimes a bit longer, or just enjoy the edibles buzz as it is.
