My Crafty is firmware 2.08 I don't know if that is new or not but some guy said his was 2.07 a page or two back.
Just received a replacment Crafty 2 weeks ago, it is firmware 2.07... Not real impressed with there CS.
I had a very early unit #545.. It was DOA at 50 hrs. Called S&B, talked to a very nice operator about buying a wear and tear kit and swapping it out for a Mighty. Was told no problem it will be $30 plus the Kit.
She did say to put all this info in my letter i sent with it.
I didn't receive any reply at all, they sent back a new Crafty and no Wear and Tear kit.
When i called back they said they have never offered that option...
Oh well, nothing a bowl of Sour Diesel won't fix... :)

......................................................

Is that a 18 M to 18 Male glass adapter?
What ID and OD tubing?
That would be a handy at home and travel addition!
Yes 18mm.
The O ring is the one outside the chamber, the small one you'll never use probably, included in the wear and tear.

Boooo! Turned on my crafty and noticed it wasn't getting warm though red light was on. Checked app, still 27 degrees after 2 mins. Turned it off and got the yellow and red flashing. :(

Guess it's going in, good thing I have backup but doesn't help now when I'm at the beach and it's not.

Edit: 45 hours in the last couple months.

I am no scientist, but it seems likr a lot of craftys are crapping out.
I have had the mighty since nov 2014 and other than an intermittent lcd backlight issue, it has worked flawlessly as my daily driver.
I have wanted to gey a crafty (screw you VAS) but the reports of failures are constant......i hope SB gets the crafty sorted out ASAP so i can buy one!!

You only see it that way because people are more likely to post here to try and fix it/complain about their negative experiences. I know somebody with a Crafty that has had (as far as I know) stellar performance from it but doesn't go on forums/internet much. You won't hear from him here, but you may from somebody poking around online and seeing FC pop up when they search "my crafty failed" or some such.

Thats a good point. I just feel like every few days there is a report of a failed crafty, that is no where near the case in the mighty thread.

So, I am new to this forum. Longtime, Volcano user. Just moved back to Cali and my set up has changed. I need to now be portable. Two young daughters so I smoke outside. New house doesn't have a real yard. I also like to go on long bike rides or 4-5 hour hikes. I only need 3-4 sessions over that time frame, so will the crafty battery hold up for 5 hours? Or do I need the Mighty. The small size is very appealing to me so the crafty is my preferred option.

DMV appointment is Monday for a CA DL so I need to act soon. Thanks for the help!
Just get the crafty. You will be fine.
The mighty is too big for bike riding and hiking. Get yourself a nice way to carry the Crafty as you drive/walk.
Not only will you love the Crafty but you will REALLY love the amazing variety of medicine for you to put into the Crafty!!
Available in Southern California.

have at it.

Cleaning question, how long can I safely keep the cu submerged in 99% iso alcohol? Or is it safer to use a qtip soaked in iso? I plan to change cu's very frequently (every 2-3 months) but I'd like to keep it clean until then since I'm a heavy user. It's been 2 days since I got it and it's already pretty sticky with residue and a little bit of tiny particles.

My firmware is 2.07 btw. Is that a good one?

S&B say no more than an hour in ISO. A lot of members say 15 min max.
Use your best judgenent but id say keep it as short as possible

So, I'm very confused how the Crafty is considered "low draw resistance" for a portable. I got one new not long ago and I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but the resistance is insanely high to me! It's really a drag, so to speak. It's like drinking a thick milkshake through an ordinary straw (which has collapsed). I always have to strain to draw and the amount of visible vapor is very little (though very effective!). It's very uncomfortable. I don't think I'm overfilling, though bowl size seems to make no difference. It is however much harder to draw when the cooling unit is attached vs it detached (don't know if that is normal either). For reference, I measured I can draw a complete breath on this in 12 seconds, IF I draw as HARD and fast as I can. But that's a max speed and I really have to strain.

I'm wondering if my unit is defective/clogged from the factory, or if my expectations were just too high for ease of draw?

The draw should be very easy. You say you have had it a month. Was the draw easier at first and then it became more difficult? If so your cooling unit is probably clogged/dirty. If not and it has been this way from the start then something is wrong.

Ok thanks. I read about the 15min due to the taste of the iso sticking to the plastic. They are cheap so I can always replace it if anything. I'll try a qtip since it's not too dirty yet and see if that works.

I'm a new user (3 days) but from my experience I can tell you that what you described is not normal whatsoever. I come from the solo and air and those guys are restricted! The crafty has a free flow draw. You can sip on it if you like and still get your lungs filled with vapor. The air should also feel cool as you draw but you feel it in your lungs if you keep going like I do lol. I love it! I say you buy a new cooling unit and see if that works. If not, then email SB as it may be the heating unit issue since the heat from there gets dragged through the cu. Good luck.

It shouldnt act like that, thats the best thing about the Crafty for me, coming from a Pax. You can literally hear the air as you hit, it should have little or no resistance at all. I actually have to slow my draws sometimes cause a little hit can produce massive clouds.

Im assuming you're not using the oil pad? Try decreasing your load and dont squeeze the load with the tool too much, start from there.

I sometimes unlock my CU to decrease resistance on really packed full loads.

Thanks for the feedback. As I said, it is very hard to draw from regardless of whether the bowl is filled or empty, so I don't think it has to do with overfilling. Also, I'm not using oils, and it's been this way from the start. How fast (in seconds) could you go from fully exhaled lungs to fully inhaled if you were trying to go as fast as possible? For instance, if you can do it in like 5 seconds then mine definitely has a problem. There is no WAY I can get anywhere close to that. 12 seconds is my best.

Also (again, sorry), draw resistance is less with the cooling unit by itself. Full exhale->inhale in about 8-9 seconds. But still pretty high IMO.

Sounds like you should try to slow down your draw, what's the need to inhale as quickly as you can? I take about 30 second long slow draws and it's amazing what this going can do.

The need isn't to take massive instant rips - that was just for comparison on resistance. Because "low" or "high" are really nebulous terms. If the draw resistance can be quantified - "such and such vaporizer could be cleared in 5 seconds" then we are comparing apples to apples. One person's "low" may be different than another's, but it's hard to know. 5 seconds is 5 seconds.

So, my issue isn't that I'm trying to pull as hard and fast as I can. The problem is that each pull requires that I pull about as hard as I can. And the vapor produced is WAY less than I've seen on videos. Usually, there is barely any visible vapor. Both of these things make me wonder whether my unit has an airflow problem.

Crafty cleaning questions for the experts...

I'm guessing yes, but is it ok to do an ISO soak in a plastic cup?

What do you do with the ISO after a soaking? Can it be saved and reused? Does it smell if saved?

Thx!!!

I have a Crafty from November. I don't clean it nearly often enough and my draw resistance is damn near the equivalent of sucking on a straw just held in the air.

I get what you mean now, a gauge to compare. It does seem like you have an issue if those are the results you're getting.

For sure! I like to clean my crafty 1 to week, even fun about it.

Disassemble the entire CU, soak in ISO for about 15 minutes messing from time to time. Then remove the iso and go in the water, I recommend removing the persistent waste (few) with a toll skilled.

Now as to alcohol, surely you should save it, and reuse in the next cleanings, do it at least 4 times with the same alcohol, is then so let it evaporate and what remains is a QWiso of great quality. I love this oil.

Thanks! Now where can I learn more about the remaining oil. All these years and I've never done that! Thanks again!

This was the first time I let the alcohol evaporate, that's what's left! I've tried several ways, for me the most profitable is to make a "bed" or "sandwich". Weed below and above, oil in the middle, is the best for me without a doubt! the layers can be fine, they serve more to insure the oil and prevent it make a mess.

And as the crafty is almost pure convection, I recommend you save the ABV that will be impregnated with oil, to make a new reclaim with some ISO when you have a good amount, the oil never seems to end! haha

Important Tip: To put the oil on the grass layer, collect him with his tool, and then heat with a lighter (without touching the oil) until it dripping on the grass, so u prevents dirt from getting connecting with him when this very solid.
