next generation e-nails?

Here is the reply i received:

"There is no functional difference between the use of propane vs butane in regards to using a torch with the SiC. However, if you intend to use your SiC exclusively with your torch, then I highly suggest that you look at this torch-specific version of the SiC here - https://www.d-nail.com/nails/torch/d-nail-sic-torch-nail

Please be advised that the torch version of the SiC cannot be used with electric heat. Should you wish to have the option to use electric or torch heat with your SiC, then the standard SiC Nail will do well for you - just remember to remove the heater coil prior to applying the torch! :)

I have been informed that the torch retention charts for the SiC had data collected by using a propane torch - so this data will be closest to your experience."

My thoughts:

The "torch use only" nail is the same price so why buy it instead of the enail + torch compatible version :hmm:

I really wonder why they highly recommend the torch only version if the standard version works just fine with a torch?

Anyone have thoughts? Just an extra way to make money?

Also im surprised the temps were recorded with propane. Good to know tho as that is what i use currently ( you can't beat $3 for the fat ass refill that last months )

Edit: i emailed them back and asked why they high recommend
I'm pretty sure the torch nail is a bit smaller and probably optimized for that use. You probably won't have an issue heating the e-nail one with a propane torch though smaller torches might be more problematic.

Good to hear. My main concern is that i just dont want my nail to degrade in any type of way before i get my enail unit. I dont want to have to purchase 2 of these as they are pretty pricey

So far I've been torching my SiC Dish to clean it between dabs (just the top not the heater coil) and no issues so far. As a precaution I try to heat it evenly like ceramic but it's supposed to be much much stronger.

Breaking didn't even cross my mind as it looks strong, but that is just an assumption as i do not actually own the product yet.

Yu have a review on the sapphire insert by chance?

Also I read iso and a Q-tip easily clean the surface of the nail. Any thoughts?

You don't even need ISO. Just heat up the nail (I heat my nail to about 500F to warm the residue) and then just wipe the dabbing surface with a Q tip. Works well on ceramic, titanium, and quartz. The Q tip doesn't burn or anything as long as the nail temp isn't too hot.

Check out the SiC thread for reviews. It's nice but I don't really use it much, I'd probably save it for top shelf concentrates every now and then.

ISO seems to do a better job of cleaning off the carbon and should be used for a thorough cleaning. Depending on how dirty it is, heating it to above 900F for an hour or so and then an ISO wipe when it's cooled down gets it back to looking brand new. Probably the best way to dab on it since it doesn't need seasoning.

Good point. Yeah I should have said ISO works better but isn't required.

The key here is, how dirty it actually is.

If it's pretty caked on ISO would definitely work a million times better.

But if it has only had 5 normal size dabs on it then iso isn't needed in my experience and a lower temp like 500-600 for like 10-15 mins works well enough to get my nails clean.

I bought a pack of 500 q tips and clean the nail each night after dabbing so I guess that's why I personally don't use ISO and can use lower temps and shorter heat up time before cleaning it.

I've unfortunately had to cut back a little On the amount I dab each night because of work so my nails don't get nearly as dirty as they did a couple months ago. I just started q tip cleaning a couple weeks ago.

Alright here is the second reply i received from dnail for confirmation :

"You are correct that the standard and "flagship" SiC nail can be used with both electronic and torch heat. However, it was designed to be most compatible and provide the best function when used with electric heat. Torching is possible, but is not the heat delivery method that nail was specifically designed for.

We developed and put forth the SiC/HIVE ceramic torch nail collaboration to provide a nail that was designed to be easily accessible by a torch. It does not have the same size constraints that the electronic nail requires in order to function with the base and flat coil heater. This means less wasted space, and easier access to put your torch heat where you want it most. You also can't accidentally torch your heater!

Personal preference plays a huge part in product selection - some customers like the ability to be flexible and switch between electric or torch heat at their convenience. Others like their nails to have an exclusive heat source, as a nail designed for electric heat will always provide the best function with electric heat but will be "just OK" for torching.

The biggest drawback with the SiC/HIVE torch nail right now is that we do not have a cap for it. This is in the works, however I can also understand not wanting to invest in a half-completed system."

I will definitely be going with the standard enail version. I like what it has to offer plus the no carb cap is also another deal breaker for the torch only version.

So now what this thread is meant for

I hate the small smell torches give off. Just doesn't seem smart investing in an enail when i can only get clean concentrates every so often as of now (i wont dab trash. ill pass on that doo doo) I might as well buy an enail tho as i dont really see anything replacing it soon

You mentioned they were getting so cheap. Are these DhGate enails reliable that are around $125ish or something like that. Or should i go ahead and drop the dollars on an Errlectric. Ive only really seen nothing but positive review on them

The only downside IMO to the Errlectric is that they designed it as a closed eco-system so you need to use their heater coil and nail (fused together) or figure out how to connect your own coil at additional expense. So if you get an Errlectric I would forget about the SiC.

Like Dr200 said, I'd look into the Auber RDK-200 (or even RDK-300), they're American and have a good rep and it's a much better value than the no-name Chinese ones out there.

Auber has the RDK-200 box for $75 now. http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=45&products_id=459 I have one. Works great. You can order a coil from them or order it off DHgate. Hymanquartz http://www.dhgate.com/product/facto...r/229811963.html#myaccount_orderdetail-2-null

Would this be everything needed for a SiC Dish enail setup?

SiC Dish V2 - $100-$125 (i noticed member Herbivore21 has a female fitting SiC Dish. How can i make mine this way?)

Sapphire insert - $50

Dnail carb cap - $70

Flat Coil - $33

Then the RDK 110 ($70) or the RDK 300 ($180). I prefer the RDK 300 by far but I'm spending more money than id like on all of this

Anything else?

You only need to get a HE Infiniti nail, which is what my SiC dish attaches to :D

If you get the flat coil from a company other than Auber, double check that it's compatible. Most e-nails use an XLR 5-pin connector but could require either a male or female end and even if it fits the wiring pin-outs may be different.

If you want to save some cash, you could skip the sapphire insert for now and get it later if you still want it. The flavour on the SiC dish is pretty good on its own. Also keep in mind the insert is fragile.

As @BoogerMan suggested, you should definitely get a dropdown adapter. OregonGlassBlower sells them for around $30. It'll keep the heat away from your piece, collect reclaim, and let you easily move the enail between pieces.

I was seriously just now considering holding back on the sapphire to save a little and have something to look forward to

Im a rookie when it comes to coils.. The Hyman quartz coil linked by @Dr200 says its 5 pin connect. Does anyone know if it fits/works properly with the RDK 300?

I just hate the look dropdowns add, but idk why i care so much. Im always aiming for flawless function first

IMO a dropdown is pretty much a must when dabbing.
Keeps any wayward heat away from your main rig, and reclaim will condense there first, so your rig stays cleaner, and you get more dry reclaim and less wet reclaim :D

Getting into the habit of using dropdowns also means your nails can become a bit more versatile - no need for a multi-size nail or multiple nails, just grab a dropdown that has the right joints for your rig and nail :)

Also, IMO, a dirty dropdown will taint the taste of your dab less than an equivalently dirty rig...
I'm not sure if it's that wet-claim tastes different, or if it's just because it makes more contact with the water that the water picks up more dirty flavour, but I noticed my FC-710 needed fewer ISO rinses once I started using a dropdown.

None of those are really "function" in the strictest sense though...
More just enhancing the overall experience - If they do really annoy you, that annoyance probably outweighs most of their benefit (though I do think the heat thing is a pretty major plus for dropdowns)

EDIT:
Also, if you want to move your nail off your rig for some reason (either to use another rig with the nail, or another vape with the rig), a dropdown makes it way easier to do so without burning yourself :D

Not sure why i said function. Should have said something more like "best set up" I definitely think the benefits out way my opinion tho lol

A heated and cracked drop down is a whole lot cheaper than a cracked joint/rig.

Keeping that water/moisture out of the reclaim is also key. No one likes dabs that sizzle.

I just like the overall look without it. Plus it another piece of glass to break. But I will definitely be using one, as another great benefit of a drop down is that it drops down the nail .. (haha) , so you able to see the surface of the nail if your rig has too high of a joint placement

I have the rdk200 and have ordered a 20mm coil from hyman quartz. Messaged them first and they messaged back that their coils had the same wiring configuration as the rdk200. I doubt the wiring is different between the 200 and 300 so they should be compatible.

If you are looking to save some money for now I would suggest getting a 16mm or 20mm coil instead of the flat one and getting one of hyman quartz's pukinbeagle nail copies and carb cap. That is what I use with my rdk-200 and I can go 600 degrees or lower. The taste is great too. Also one of the best features is that inner downstem keeps joints clean and allows reclaim to neatly drip into your drop down.

The coils would be wired up the same for the RDK200 and 300. The 300 is just an upgraded 200. The Hymanquartz coil works great with my RDK-200. I kind of wish I went with the Quartz nail @weenstoned mentioned, I went with the quartz banger with enail hook. It works great it just falls off if your not paying attention once in a while. The puknebeigle copy is much sturdier.

Drop downs are a great thing once you get used to them. Keeps my rigs much cleaner, nail not right in your face, easier to move a hot nail to another rig and catches most of the reclaim in an easy to get at spot.

Edit: RDK-200 is $5 off and 300 is $15 off. Sale for a few days.
