JESUS!!! What the Hell was I thinking! I left out the best of the best. Thanks for the reminder. Just to keep the universe on a level plane....

Shemp, Joe and Curly Joe were OK, but IMO this is, and always will be, the best 3!
Thanks. I feel better.

@CarolKing, what a trip!
I remember all those things. That foot thing was all the rage. I could never do it.

@sundaddy, I'm an oldie but my kids are young. They've been known to do Gilligan marathons and they love it. Who doesn't?

And Yes doesn't resonate with anyone? I was wild about them for like 15 yrs. Floyd, Zep, Tull. Early 70s prog rock. Not the magic of the 60s but beats what followed for the next 20 yrs. by miles.

The album that most influenced me as a lad. One of my favorites to this day.

Eh... Gilligan and the other 8 million or so sitcoms in syndication were OK, but a whole different thing for us. And, Gilligan was about the silliest. Same thing every show.... Almost get off the island and Gilligan F's it up! He would have been killed long before the end of season 1 if I had been on the SS Minnow. Best thing about this one was the chics for a budding teenage boy. So, who was your fav? Ginger or Mary Ann? Or, were you the Mrs. Howell type? For me? mmmmm that Mary Ann. On those rare afternoons when I could have the house (and only color TV) to myself.... :brow:

...love the movie Back To The Beach...where "Gilligan" cameo's as a bartender and laments that "we had two beautiful girls on the island, but we weren't allowed to touch them" and he also said "we had a genius with us that could make a nuclear reactor out of a pineapple and a coconut, but he couldn't fix a two foot hole in our boat"

Funny shit the first time I watched it...

Speaking of caps.... We LOVED these things and found many ways to use them. Am guessing these little paper wads of gunpowder aren't as easy to find anymore, but man they were fun!

7XqFNA1.jpg
I recall these made quite a Bang if you hit an entire roll with a hammer! :o :brow:

Also, cutting out one of the circles, then slicing off a small edge so the gunpowder was exposed... followed up by a bit of focused sunlight using a magnifying glass on that gunpowder had that little circle launch off like a little rocket.

I'm loving this thread! Saturday morning's were for cartoons as stated above. Other fav's ... Romper Room, Captain Kangaroo, Felix the Cat......

I hate to do this to you folks but if you're like me the following is one of those songs that gets stuck in your head and requires the jaws of life to remove it.....

Schoolhouse Rock:

Conjunction Junction, what's your function?
Conjunction Junction, how's that function?
I got three favorite cars
That get most of my job done.
Conjunction Junction, what's their function?
I got "and", "but", and "or",
They'll get you pretty far
"And":
That's an additive, like "this and that".
"But":
That's sort of the opposite,
"Not this *but* that".
And then there's "or":
O-R, when you have a choice like
"This or that".
"And", "but", and "or",
Get you pretty far.

Conjunction Junction, what's your function?
Hooking up two boxcars and making 'em run right.
Milk and honey, bread and butter, peas and rice.
Hey that's nice!
Dirty but happy, digging and scratching,
Losing your shoe and a button or two.
He's poor but honest, sad but true,
Boo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!

Conjunction Junction, what's your function?
Hooking up two cars to one
When you say something like this choice:
"Either now or later"
Or no choice:
"Neither now nor ever"
Hey that's clever!
Eat this or that, grow thin or fat,
Never mind, I wouldn't do that,
I'm fat enough now!

Conjunction Junction, what's your function?
Hooking up phrases and clauses that balance, like:
Out of the frying pan and into the fire.
He cut loose the sandbags,
But the balloon wouldn't go any higher.
Let's go up to the mountains,
Or down to the sea.
You should always say "thank you",
Or at least say "please".

Conjunction Junction, what's your function?
Hooking up words and phrases and clauses
In complex sentences like:
"In the mornings, when I am usually wide awake,
I love to take a walk through the gardens and down by the lake,
Where I often see a duck and a drake,
And I wonder as I walk by
Just what they'd say if they could speak,
Although I know that's an absurd thought."

Conjunction Junction, what's your function?
Hooking up cars and making 'em function.
Conjunction Junction, how's that function?
I like tying up words and phrases and clauses.
Conjunction Junction, watch that function.
I'm going to get you there if you're very careful.

I loved these!

To this day, I can still catch myself on occasion singing my all time favorite "Yuck Mouth".

All you guys probably didn't like this show but I loved That Girl. I couldn't believe what I was seeing when she stopped wearing a bra. I'm surprised the network allowed it back then. That was during the "burn your bra era".

How about the original Dark Shadows. I watched it at the neighbors every day after school. My mom didn't want me watching it so I watched at their house. I sent away for some of the DVDs some years back.

Loved David Cassidy, he was my teen crush and I loved watching the Partridge Family. I can't hardly get through an episode now it's so stupid.

Not a big fan of Dark Shadows, but enjoyed the other 2. That Girl was a great show, and the Partridge Family was on every day after school in re-runs, too. Tho it was on the same stupidity level as Gilligan, Susan Dey (nor Marlo Thomas) never really did it for me like Dawn Wells (Mary Ann) so not quite the same impact on my life. ;)

My favorite show as a kid . . .

Original Theme

Mister Rogers Remixed | Garden of Your Mind - I still listen to this a lot . . . :)

He always freaked me out a little, even as a kid. Always loved the Neighborhood of Make Believe tho!

And, to maybe help get us out of TV mode... am sure there are a few out here that remember bikes like these! Think this was the ultimate Schwinn back in the day. I didn't have one (was way over budget), but had my bike tricked out as close as I could. High handlebars, banana seat and of course the high sissy bar. Mine even had a pad on it - as if you could sit back against it while riding!! No gear shift or hand brakes, though.

HA!! Even found the exact seat I had on ebay. Hell, this one could actually be mine!

Well with all the ref's to the coming-of-age booze like Boone's, Thunderbird, and Gallo, I'm surprised that the 60's heads' favorite didn't get a mention . . . (drum roll) . . . Red Mountain!

Now, the name was of course re-appropriated to actual legit wines, but at the Fillmore or overnighters at beaches just south of SF, Red Mountain was king. In a gallon jug only. It was all any of us could afford: Usually about $1.50, on sale sometimes for $.99. I couldn't find a picture of the real thing, but I did find this description on a college magazine:

"At the same time, however, another entirely affordable undergraduate wine that enjoyed unaccountable popularity was a paint remover called “Red Mountain,” made of some mysterious execrable juice obtained from some equally malign source."

"execrable paint remover" - that's perfect.

While most common as the last alternative when everyone was tapped out (i.e., often), it was frequently the drug of choice for a psychedelic come-down. After hallucinating for say 6 or 8 hours, you're damned tired and a little nuts but can't crash 'cause all that's left in you is the residual amphetamine. RM to the rescue. Knock you out every time.
Just don't barf.

That "stuff" (100 proof version, straight shots) was one of several liquor brands that helped me earn cirrhosis by my late 30s. Over-consumption of booze is especially hard on women's bodies because we metabolize it differently than males do. I smoked pot and did drugs/psychedelics in my teens but didn't start drinking significantly until my 20s. Wish I never had. :disgust:

Ugh, Southern Comfort is so damn sweet that it use to give me intense hangovers as a newb drinker years ago.. As I recall it was also a hit with the ladies along with Boones Farm and Strawberry Fields... These days I basically limit my alcohol consumption to red wine, vodka or a high end Anejo Tequilla.. I gave up boxed wines long ago hahaha
