received my SS early bird today , July 31 . Can't believe I'm actually holding it in my hand ! It arrived in good condition , I'll report back in a few days , after I've thoroughly road-tested it .

Good to hear, makes me feel like maybe it was just the goof that built my 2...gonna personally ask them to check the replacements before they go out, no more headaches for me maybe haha.

Last company I trashed was EVGA(GPU stopped working in 4 months, they would not pay return shipping), got my way but felt annoyed I had to get mean lol....

I hope to never have to do trashing again...
i think they will replace your hoppers... read on reddit or fc where someone had similar problems scratches and back end was not removeable as yours and as far as i remember they replaced it...

Makes me feel better, I am gonna make sure they send them when I move though, to much to keep track of right now, only gonna be here for less then a week, was glad when they got here since I haven't left yet.

Lifetime warranty, right? You have nothing to worry about. Just some short term disappointment. I'm hoping they respond to you FAST.

Finally the ss Grasshopper arrived today. Order date from Nov 15 2013, with original ship date listed as Feb 2014, then switched to July 2015. iirc, my order was around the 89th early bird so they must be close to done shipping those units.

Mine must have been left powered-on prior to being shipped out by Hopper Labs because it arrived with the red LED flashing, indicating low battery state. It is charging now, hope it works.

I received my GH today as well! Sorry to hear about your damaged units @HillaryClinton :( My early bird SS unit also had quite a few slight scratches, one long one right along the clip line

I don't think I'm gonna bother them about it. The scratches aren't terribly noticeable and I could probably polish them out myself if I really wanted to. I think the body parts were sourced from China which could be why they're coming in a bit scratched and shoddy-looking. I sorta like the rugged look for now though.

I cleaned the mouth piece and bowl with iso before doing anything. Cleans really nice. There wasn't any burnoff after 2 on/off cycles. I'm kind of an herb miser so I haven't tried a full (or maybe even half) bowl in it yet. Just used a pinch or 2. For portables I have pretty much only used the MFLB up until now. I have owned an Ascent 1.0 but only used it a few times for various reasons (efficiency). The GH taste reminds me a lot of how the ascent was, but now the vapor ends up inside me and not my surroundings ;)

I take a couple hits on mark 2 for some really enjoyable flavor hits (even with small amount). Then I move on to 3.5, then 4, then 5 once or twice. I might put on the silicone starting at 4, depends on how long I wait in between, it does get hot. The hits on 4 and 5 go thru the bubbler and are still tasty. I never really got the burnt popcorn taste with the MFLB, even though I think I have good technique. And the ABV never looked nearly as even and nice as the GH. No burning at all. One time I used a very small pinch and I got a big nice cloud at mark 3.5, then I did a few hits on 5 and didn't get any vapor clouds the last couple hits, but the ABV was still not burnt anywhere just well done. The pics will make it look burnt but there's no carbon:

All-in-all I have really good first impressions of the GH. I really enjoy the vaping experience more, but that could be because of convection vs conduction. The GH does take one or 2 pre-hits to sufficiently heat the material to get hot enough to vaporize during the draw. But I'll be happy not to have to use the finishing grinder! Also, the GH seems to reduce possibility of negative affects vs MFLB, probably because of the precise temperature control. There may be actives at the upper end that my body doesn't like that I get with the MFLB sometimes. It's a slick unit that seems to meet my stealth, efficiency and smelliness needs well. So far I feel like it was worth the wait, and boy was it a wait :o

I to have an ascent, love that thing honestly, great hits and no vapor escape but it is the V2 model. Glad you are liking yours though, guessing your backend doesn't heat up?

See my post in the main GH thread. I found gunk on my negative lead in the cap but cleaned it off before doing anything. Haven't seen the back heat bad yet at all.

Its clean, the other one won't open from the start, my friend just tried to use it...and now his backend jumped in temp for a couple seconds, burnt him slightly, then cooled off.

So Hillary, we finally meet.

Just kidding. I am the owner of the second grasshopper that shipped with Ms. Hillary Clinton's.

I brought the device out today to test it out but did not get much use out of it as I was busy, on the way home I tested it out with a few drags. It seemed to work well, but as I arrived home the device flashed red indicating it was dead. I am unsure if the Grasshopper team charged it before it was shipped, but now the back end is getting abnormally hot.

As stated before I cannot get the back end off of this device. It seems to have been screwed on too tight or on the wrong thread. I can't tell you how many times I tried to unscrew this...

I don't know how the quality control is but it seems that someone is using a vice to hold the device while it is being worked on (to hold it still), yet there is no padding between the vice and the device - causing blemishes, dents, and other damage.

Frankly I don't think this should happen:

(disclaimer: The above picture did not happen. But who knows it might...)

Letting the device sit until a replacement is in order.

Scratches seem frequent, even an occasional spot weld scar, yikes! Early bird here have heard nothing from hopper labs, even inquired once a month or two ago. They can take their time as far as I'm concerned, they seem to be having issues putting these together properly and I would rather they get the kinks worked out.

Lmao I was like that picture has gotta be fake. But it sucks that HL is essentially shipping Grasshoppers out, only to have them shipped back and for them to send a new one. Unless they are not worried about money, idk. Most of the GHs have had issues at this point.

I'm with @grokit. I know its cosmetic, but its a large sign of the level of QC. I handle my fair share of stainless and you need to take precautions with it. Very easy to scratch. I plan on seeing most ss units with a fair amount of scratching after heavy use, but am I wrong to expect those scratches from us and not HL?

Id like to see shipping, but even more I'd love to see these units come to people not looking like refurbed hoppers. can't wait to see what is said in the update tonight. I hate speculating, but posts like @HillaryClinton getting two units both with problems, really concerns me. Cosmetic burns and the back end being stuck on seem like simple catches for anyone in QC.

I am assuming the back-end has fine threading compared to the front? The funny thing about stainless is that once a tiny piece of grit gets caught in the threads, game over. We have had a few bursts in our 8 inch line for instance which we repair with a flange pack. You're working your ass off, in a huge puddle or right above mud etc. You're screwing in these 3/4 diameter bolts when a tiny piece of whatever gets in the thread. You put just a touch too much tension on it, just a couple pounds even, and suddenly the bolt won't go further, won't back out, and you have to literally grab the angle grinder and cut the entire bolt out and start entirely over because you can not put enough tension on it to come loose. Period.

Wonder if the back end threading could be made wider or with a different material.

There is a thread on reddit where someone had the same issues as @HillaryClinton. The backend wouldn't come off and arrived with scratches and blemishes. Seems like they may have one bad apple that can't get the assembly right.

I don't know the inner workings of HL, but IMHO, I would think they would have some extra assemblers by now. And I would think that now that they are shipping, Trevor and Matt should be the last part of the QC before letting these obvious defects and damaged hoppers leave their lab.

I know if it were my company, and yes I know it isn't, I would make sure at this most important part of the process, I would personally check every device until I was actually comfortable with the product going out in a consistent manner, meaning no obvious defects and blemishes and scratches, etc.

With a lifetime warranty folks can keep sending theirs back to the company. In the long run it will cost them a fortune doing business this way. The cost of shipping is going to be their downfall if they can't get it right. They need to make sure their quality control is in check. It doesn't sound like it is yet.

I would think they would want to spend as much money as they can initially getting these hoppers ready for their maiden flight out the door. First impression means a lot in the public eye.

The lifetime warranty is the lifetime of the company.

I used to make parts for Boeing and there is nothing more frustrating than machining a perfect part only to have a new employee set it down wrong and scratch it during deburr, assembly, inspection, or shipping. :bang:

Anything deeper than .0004" would usually scrap the part depending on the tolerances called out on the print.

That is one of the nice things about stainless steel is it can be hit with steel wool and re-cleaned like mostly new.. I am not defending GHL here, just pointing out one of the nice things about stainless steel.

Mine is getting tossed in a toolbox so I am not worried much about marks/scratches. Still sucks though..

I know what you mean. I worked in the optical business for over 30 years.

I may not have experience running my own company. But I have years of experience in manufacturing and QC and I think they really need to step up QC. IMO the two with the back ends that won't come off should have never left the lab. Making sure the front and back ends are going together and coming apart smoothly are very important parts of this device just like the oven or any other part.

Some defects will definitely raise their ugly head after shipping, that just part of a new product being released. But the non removable back ends are what I mean when I say "obvious" defects.

I'm like you, personally some of the scratches and small blemishes I can deal with as long as the device performs. Since I'm the only one that will be using it, it'll probably never leave my hands anyway. LOL
