Yea, I was at Jorma & Jack's debut, introduced by Bill Graham at Winterland (Bill managed a lot of the great bands in that scene but always got fired, he was kinda a prick). Fully electric at the start, acoustic came later. Saw them a couple times in the Park when free concerts were still happening.

[David where are you damnit, weren't you hangin' with Jack not that long ago in Tiburon?]

One night Quicksilver was so loud that my friend's younger brother started crying, his ears hurt so bad. I think maybe the loudest I heard was The Who, then maybe Lee Michaels. They had Marshall's stacked 10 ft behind them. Entwistle played the loudest bass I've ever heard. They debuted Tommy at the Fillmore, played it non-stop start-to-finish. Then Townsend says, "now how's about some rock'n'roll?" and they break into Summertime Blues. Pure heaven.

An old Berkeley bud of mine says, "you had to be there." So true. It was once in time & space, no more.
I like the turn this thread has taken! I'm a veteran of the Fillmore East. I also used to panhandle to get money for the shows, & it didn't take much: $4.50 to $6.50 if I recall correctly. I saw some great music @ the Fillmore: The Kinks, Love, Quicksilver, Savoy Brown, the Who, Hendrix, Incredible String Band, Bonzo Bog Band, Fleetwood Mac, Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention.

The Grateful Dead almost always killed it. I can still clearly remember, somehow, the Allman Bros. (with Duane) opening for the Dead, when no one had heard of them & they absolutely blew the roof off the place.

I went to the Woodstock festival when I was 16 years old. We went a few days early so had no traffic hassles & got a great spot to camp - close to the stage. Of course I barely spent any time @ our campsite, I was parked in front of the stage most of the weekend. Woodstock was nirvana for music fans & a bonus coming together for the counter culture which had been growing in isolated pockets around the country, not realizing our strength & power.

I was just listening to a song that taps into that era:

BTW, I'm 62

Don't recognize several things above. Perhaps because I'm older and wasn't the right age to play with them?

I used to watch Engineer Bill https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Stulla, and played the "Red Light, Green Light" game.

Also remember Sheriff John https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheriff_John singing, "Laugh and be happy, and the world will laugh with you. ..." That particular philosophy turned out to be a crock but he sang like he believed it. :)

Eh.... maybe if you grew up in LA. Didn't get these on East Coast that I know of. We had Captain Noah (late 60's thru early 90's) in Philly where I grew up. I was even on the show once! Anyone else remember the song? Send your pictures to dear old Captain Noah. Send today. Send right away.....

Probably at least a few dozen similar ones across the country.

And, another great game I just remembered.

Hours of rainy day fun!! Friend of mine picked up one in pretty good condition last year at a yard sale. Still very fun - especially after a few good nano loads!! As you may remember, it's a bitch to wind the strings, but always worth the effort. Two handed battle with two people is a blast! Almost as good as four at a time.

Hope @lwien doesn't mind how much this has drifted into a nostalgia thread as much as how old are you? I sure am digging it! Thanks to all for stirring up so many great memories and sharing your own.

Mind? Are you kidding me? I'm loving' it. :D

Mods, can we change the title to "Age of the FC Community Plus a Bit of Nostalgia" ? (thanks...)

The first time I drank alcohol and got drunk was at the local Drive In movies. I ended up throwing up in the car and on the grass. Got the spins really bad. I was so embarrassed to go to school the following Monday. Ugh

EDIT
I think we were watching the 1st Dirty Harry movie. They would let teens under 17 watch "R" rated movies. Usually they would check the trunk for added passengers and booze. We kept the wine hidden under the seats.

Happy times.

Boone's Farm & Tyrolia (remember that shit!)...my introduction to very bad wines...but hey...I was 17. The legal drinking age was 18, but we use to drive from 'Jersey up to Greenwood Lake in NY state where the drinking age was 17.

Sometimes I still wonder how we made it home alive... Fucking dumb ass kids!

Ring any bells?

OMG!! I had forgotten about Gene London!! He was a fav when I was a kid. Thanks for that!

Remember Sally Starr and Captain Kangaroo (think he was one of the first nationals after Bozo), too. Wasn't really a big fan of the Cptn. Sure we watched, but not if any of these others were on. There were also a few more that were more "hosts" that had their own format - like Chief Halftown and his talent show. IIRC we never watched the talent part (they all were lame) but watched the chief himself sometimes. Think he was on at pretty much the end of Saturday cartoons (noon?), and with only a few channels he could get our attention for a few minutes. There were a few more, too.

Loved these guys, too. Barely remember when they were first run on Saturday mornings, but when they were syndicated we watched pretty much every afternoon. Most cartoons they showed were weak, but they were a riot! See what great stuff you get when your creative team is probably all stoned?

This might sound weird, but old school America seems alot more like how I grew up when I read yor stories. Was this before the paranoia gripped the country?

Could probably write a whole book about this, but the short answer is yes. Many reasons to be sure, but IMO one of the biggest is that politicians just hadn't yet learned how to capitalize on fear as well - and didn't have 24 hour news cycles to "Trump" it up (yes, pun intended). Plus, as a kid I wasn't too worried. I had this set, so I was ready for the Ruskie invasion!

Looks like just a crappy camera and radio, but...

And, the camera turned into a pistol.

They both took caps and clicked loudly whether you had caps or not.

Speaking of caps.... We LOVED these things and found many ways to use them. Am guessing these little paper wads of gunpowder aren't as easy to find anymore, but man they were fun!

I use to fill my wine bota with Boones Farm, Mateus, Liebfraumilch, or Sangria and sneak it into the concerts
Well THAT reminded me of a story.... A lifetime ago I went to a Yes concert. A friend snuck one of those things in, but filled it with whiskey. It was passed down the line to me,but nobody told me it wasn't wine. And I was a novice and unscrewed it not realizing that would open it from a stream to full on gushing. I got more than a mouthful of whiskey and swallowed. Had to suck it up and keep my game face on. I never made THAT mistake again!

Sundays were spent watching this guy.

Oh man! Loved Tarzan! And, we watched whole host of others. Usually only if frigid cold or raining too much to be allowed to go out. Or if sick, but I was pretty good at saving illness for weekdays! :D

Didn't know those were called bang caps in English! We used to blow up shit left and right with those.

We always just called them caps. These, plastic army men and blue tip stick matches were what lead us into our little forays of shoplifting. But, sure could lead to a few hours of good fun! When my crew discovered weed the grocery store and Grants in the shopping center up the street must've figured their shoplifters had been pinched and sent to reform school. We'd hit each a couple times a week all summer for supplies, and only one bonehead got caught once. The Aunt Bea types that would follow us around the stores were no match for us delinquents. And, we never figured it then (we thought we were the shit!), but the stores probably weren't giving it their full effort for the $2 worth of stuff we'd grab - if it was even worth that much.

Do kids still do this? Playing cards were also on the grab list, but we never needed many!

What... No Three Stooges?

JESUS!!! What the Hell was I thinking! I left out the best of the best. Thanks for the reminder. Just to keep the universe on a level plane....

Shemp, Joe and Curly Joe were OK, but IMO this is, and always will be, the best 3!

And, how the Hell could I forget these guys, too? Damn vaping and memory loss!
