Magical Butter

Unless you added water, no real water should 'come out.' The only loss should come from straining. I would think that the water in the butter left in the form of steam. Some gets left behind in the herb (although if you use Chippy Malone's method you'll lose much less). Some people also just leave the herb in without straining. It all depends on what you're using it for.

I was barely at 350 line which is 3 sticks/1.5 cups
this automatically means im not going to even get 3 sticks right :(

I've never done butter, so I can't compare experiences, but keep in mind that butter can contain up to 30% water. That would account for the steam as well as the reduction in volume (as the water evaporates). There's also going to be some liquid trapped in the remaining botanicals, no matter how thoroughly you strained and squeezed.

It's also worth noting that you haven't lost any of the medicinal properties; you merely have a more concentrated product. If you'd prefer a larger volume of a weaker product, (perhaps to meet a recipe requirement or target dosage) you can always "cut" the finished product by mixing with some fresh butter, or perhaps using a bigger butter-to-botanical ratio during production next time.

thanks for answering, I called and they said its normal
That it is the steam escaping, but hey check this out
Im kinda bummed, i know you dont get as much back as you put in
but I put in 4 sticks of butter, and got back 350 ml of liquid butter
which is exactly 1.5 cups, what I expected... but heres the thing
how much more of that I am going to lose as well once the butter
solidifies and the "water" or whatever is discarded....

I used to worry about that, like maybe the thc was vaporizing. My starting material always came out looking brown instead of dark green(like it did right after drecarb). But my edibles always came out okay and the same amount of oil i put in always comes back out so I'm guessing its fine based on my experience.

Btw fourm, the last times i made edibles was with fresh herb, that was later decarbed. That's very expensive, so i have been vaping a lot lately and saving the ABV so far got 20G's. will post an update once i get around 30 I'll be making 1 cup Cannaoil and testing the potency!

Keep in mind i vape level 3 (10 min Session), then Level 5( about 8 min) each bowl using an Airzer Solo.

outletboy,
Howdy all,

SWIM decided to whip up a batch of VG tincture using the Magical Butter machine. He didnt realize how pulverized the plant material would become after the tincture cycle. After letting the tincture sit for 3 months with the pulverized material suspended in the glyc, SWIM used the supplied filter bag to strain some material out. Only a minimal amount of plant material was recovered.

SWIM took it a step further and set up a filter flask with 101 filter papers and applied a vacuum of 20 psi. At most, a few mLs dripped through before the filter was clogged. SWIM attempted to retry with warmed glyc to assist with viscosity, however, that did not help.

Anyone have some tips or pointers to help SWIM filter out the remaining plant material?
Should SWIM try to use steel mesh filters?

TIA!

:peace:

P.S. End goal is to vaporize the VG in pens and not ingest as an edible.

I don't have experience with VG - interesting that the material remains suspended. It tends to settle out of oil quite well.

That said, you might try one of the finely perforated stainless or "gold" (plated. most likely) filters that are sold as a reusable replacement for coffee filters. They come in various sizes and shapes - you're bound to find one you like.

Other option might be to try a finer size of the "bubble bag" type filter like what comes with the Magical Butter machine.

Also - no help for that batch, but in future you might try straining it sooner - it is possible that the material has gotten softer and "broken down" - lost much of its mechanical integrity - while sitting there soaking in the VG.

Thanks for the tips. I probably shouldve added SWIM already tried the filter basket method (which, BTW, fits perfectly inside of a quart sized soup container).

Good call re: bubble bag. Id imagine SWIM could find the silk used in the bags and cut one to fit in the filter flask.

holy shit that turned out strong you guys
the 240 F decarb for 35 minutes and the soy lecithin
made the most out the 22 grams in 4 sticks of butter

momoofthegoons, u was right, there wasnt any liquidy residue at all once it solidified
The Magical Butter works like a charm

I ate a tablespoon on bread and was couchlocked for 7 hours
The brownies I made, I got 16 out of a 13x9 pan with half cup / 1 stick butter
and one made me pretty ripped for about 7 hours also

quick and very important question on Coconut Oil
how long does that stay perfectly good not being in the fridge
Is it just like reg oil which is fine out of the fridge
as long as its in a cool dark place?
I will only need it to last about a month each time

Btw I heard Coconut Oil is even better than unsalted butter
as dank as this puck came out it makes it hard to imagine
Coconut oil could be any better!!!!!

what you all think bout this brand and kind of coconut oil to do the infusion with ?

Viva Labs Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, 54 Ounce

I would think that it would be fine unrefrigerated. It's not like butter which needs refrigeration to stay fresh. Coconut oil has a long shelf life.

And the coconut oil that you linked should be fine. Seems a bit costly, but it is organic. For ingesting, I'd definitely go with an organic coconut oil, but for topical use I've used the Costco brand (Kirkland) and that is much less expensive at around $26.00 for two of those jars.

Hello every one!
So ive been wanting a MB for way to long now.. living in the LONE STAR STATE, its difficult to commit to this machine unless you are willing to "invest" in the right dank to get this whole process going.. however I have just purchased one!
Now I need some help from every one here who is way ahead of the game...
First, I also own a volcano.. should i just vape untill i have the amount needed? or a quick run in the oven will yield a more potent product..?
Ive seen a video or two where people throw about 10gs in with a cup or two of everclear for tinictures.. what are your thoughts or two cents on that?

Also the biggest part.. can you guys help me with making small runs..?
i.e(10-15 gs) max runs + whatever amount of coconut oil or everclear needed on the MB .. Being from htown and having all dank "taxed" its difficult to get full zips on the daily... so i try to just keep around 15gs at all times..
but in all i will not ever be doing any more that 1ozof total bud at any time because im college kid poor.

im really looking to use this heavy for ejuice/ edibles through drops... is there any charts you can send my way or any run cycles you guys do for best yields for these??

please any tips trick and helpful advise on these needs or any to a first time MB user and oil maker.. lol Wish me luck!
looking forward to your replys!

Welcome to the forum. :)

A lot of your questions are already answered in this thread... have you taken the time to read it? If not, maybe read the last 15 pages or so. There's information on how to make ejuice and what product yields the best oil, etc. Then, if you still have questions, post away.

First off, Welcome to FuckCombustion forum and congratulations on your new MB machine! A better and more helpful bunch of folks you'd be hard pressed to find.

THat said, and at the risk of stating the obvious (and no offence intended) I'd recommend reading this whole thread - or at least back through the past dozen pages or so. Lots of great advice, as well as many members (myself included) offering detailed reports and even step-by-step descriptions of how we did it.

To address a couple of your questions, tho - the minimum quantity of liquid you can use is two cups. Depending on desired potency, you can use whatever quantity of botanicals you like, but most folks find the recommended 14g (1/2 oz) per cup to be a good starting point. That means you'll want a full ounce of product for your run.

You don't need to use ABV - you can certainly decarb your weed in the oven, as outlined in the instructions, or in the MBM ( 1hr @ 220) as some users prefer. Also note that using fresh bud will result in a more potent, especially in THC content, than will ABV.

Anyway, read back through this thread... it'll be well worth spending an hour or so to get through the whole thing, and then if you still have some specific questions, ask away!

[edit: aw, shucks, @momofthegoons , ya beat me to it!]

FIRST AND FORMOST, thank you for such a fast reply. i feel so welcomed already!
Second i will go through this feed ASAP.
Ive spent the past few months going through pointless feeds and honestly i was tired of it. and tired of getting run cycles ideas from 20+ different forms..
but seeing as how you guys are saying this is a one stop shop this should be well worth it!!!!!
thank you again. ill be reading up tonight.
excited for my MB!
ill have everything ready by the time it gets here on the 30th so i can open and run right out of the box! will post first time pics just because! lol

However i took the advice of you helpful people and read through all the pages.
so far mrnaturalaz has the best looking method while still staying in the 1oz limit i am limited to due to broke people probs.. Im excited to try your run at the end of the months with an oz of some pineapple express!!

As long as you reach the minimum line on your machine (with liquid) you should be ok. Just remember that you get what you put in... so using 10 gr. is not going to give you the strength you would get if you used more herb.

Hey everyone, I've got a couple questions for anyone who owns one of these machines.
Is 1 Oz of bud good enough for 2 cups of coconut oil?
Do i need to decarb before I use the machine?
Are there any tips for increased potency that should be known?
Thanks

You can do a decarb process in the machine. Read through @MrNaturalAZ's method. One ounce to 2 cups should be fine. I processed mine for four hours.

Let your oil settle like @MrNaturalAZ suggests before pouring. I didn't strain mine. All the sludge settled to the bottom I haven't used the sludge for anything yet, I didn't throw anything away.

It was the best oil I have made with this method. I used 30 grams of herb and some ABV

I tablespoon works for an average high and 2 tablespoons is almost too much. It depends on how much fat you consume too.

@spk2629 I've never used the MB for glycerine tincture. But I found this on the Magical Butter Group page. I hope it helps. They do not use everclear for this however.

Hello again!!
Well i just ordered my virgin coconut oil as well as the now sunflower lecithin.
cant even begin to say how excited I am to make my first batch the moment UPS drops my MB at the front door!

in other news..... I noticed this chart to help with tinctures and dosing.
however If i remember right i read that the addition of water is only needed when at higher elevations..
does this apply to the chart??
meaning since im in a state where EVERYTHING IS BIGGER (tx) do i still have to add the water?
or should i just acount for that and add more vg?

I wanna try making a second batch since my first one lacked potency but I'm honestly scared of having the same awful results. It seems I'm not the only MB user having problems with potency. From reading other people's post, it seems 1 oz of bud can yield awesome results with traditional cooking methods but that seems to be untrue with the MB2. Maybe the recommended 1-4 hours of cooking is not enough with the MB?

I'm unsure whether or not the MB2 was worth the purchase, honestly seems like a total waste of money now :/

I've had more luck and awesome experiences with AVB firecrackers. I'm honestly disappointed with the MB's performance. I might give it one last go before I give up on the MB completely, might try running a batch for 8 hours+.

Each fail with the MB costs me $340. If only I lived in a medical state...

@bones did you declarb in the magical butter maker using @MrNaturalAZ method using the oil to heat and decarb? For me it worked better that way. The decarb process can make or break your recipe.

It can get expensive even in a medical / legal state. If you grow your own that would be ideal.

I decarbed the bud alone in the oven for about an hour @ 230F.

I don't think I'd even bother to make my own in a medical state tbh, I'd probably just buy already made edibles :p

Bones I HIGHLY doubt its the machine that is your problem fella.......

if 50 kids go up to a shape arrange toy and correctly match the pieces
to the corresponding matching shape compartments and 49 of them do it
correctly , yet there is one kid that cant see to get the same results
No teacher would blame the toy.....

here is what is bothering me

Ok, I got good results the first time imo with the
240 F oven decarb for 35 min, soy lecithin unsalted butter
@ the temp MB2 says for 2 hours...

But I see where other people are saying its better to do a 4 hour cycle
or a 3 hour one, 2 hour cycle then 1 hour cycle.....

Hate when things like this are brought up because it always leaves you guessing
since there is no concrete evidence either way and results vary so dramatically
from one person whos cooking to the next

We are switching to coconut oil and going to use some better weed
The stuff we had was high grade but not quite as mean as what you usually get
But now im afraid to mess with the time frames on how long to let it run in the MB2
