I mean, it's a Quartz banger from a place that produces lots of clear Pyrex stuff, so I was thinking if it's not Quartz, it would likely be Pyrex (back where I started, but I'd have a banger instead of a cracked, domed nail). They list a cert for their Quartz (could always be ripped from someone else), and only the banger and one other item were called Quartz, so at least they weren't trying to pass off all their glass as Quartz.

Quartz is super cheap to make, doesn't really sense that it would be a substitute. Also if you look into Hyman Quartz they produce plenty of other quartz goods not related to oil. Personally I am of the opinion that the vast majority of Chinese nails (including titanium) are safe to use and are what they say they are since they're manufactured for resale in North America. If the raw materials were expensive I might buy it, but the only world where this makes sense is if you're an American nail company trying to fearmonger.

Ehh I don't mind paying for the peace of mind. Plus supporting American made products when I can gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling lol.
The glass bubbler on the other hand, I feel comfortable using because nothing is getting heated.

I don't really fault people, but it reminds me of how everyone used to badmouth Asian cars as being inferior then gradually they were acknowledged as equal/superior. Also most of the other products you use throughout your day probably won't be made in America unless you have really made a point of doing that.
I can see the point of buying American glass to get a unique piece of art, but a nail just seems like a tool to me.

But I hear u bud, that's y I edited and put in when I can. Clear glass I'll probably always get from China but I agree worked pieces should be from American blowers.
But my question still stands.
American or Chinese, is there a way to tell the difference between Quartz and boro or whatever?
Plenty of American heads shops probably lie their asses off too.

@NickDlow yeah, I was going to bring up that point; it's not just headshops that might be feeding you a load of crap -- anyone in the distribution line could be falsifying statements. American companies still have to recall products due to safety issues. Just because someone told you "hey, this shit is Grade 2 Ti," doesn't mean that the product you're now selling to people is actually G2 Ti, it just means someone told you it is. I see websites claim that their product has been tested to ensure it is what it claims to be, but I rarely see anything to back it up. This includes whole product lines I use daily, at the suggestion of other FC members. (And basically every Ti coil pen on the market)

Put a mouthpiece on the top - it's a bubbler.
Put the bottom joint into another piece, and it's an ash catcher...
Imo it's kinda silly to nitpic the size of the ash catcher relative to the piece they put it in in the video.
Who gives 2 shits what they put it into?
They showed you the design, and how it functions.
If you think it would only look sensible on a larger piece, then only use it on a larger piece...
I think they would have been smarter to find a torus/straight fab that was a little bit smaller, so that the ash catcher would have stayed level on the table while acting as an a/c - that would actually look pretty impressive if they could get their production tolerances that low (realistically no-one buying would end up with an exact fit like they could get for the video though...)
It's a little ugly but I'm surprised it's seen such an initial backlash...

I believe you are able to heat quartz red hot then toss it into a glass of ice water and it won't crack because quartz has a coe of 0. You can try that if you want, I'm not risking my perfectly good banger.
I've used the same jlhsmoking banger for 2 months with no issues. Boro would've for sure cracked by now... That my only test, I don't expect my quartz banger to crack from just heating/cooling cycles.

I think I have 3 or 4 bangers from hyman and when I'm home I'll do that test. But I'm not risking that test on my Errlectric quartz banger lol. But that came with certification anyway.
If that's a real way to test, I'm gonna go for it.

I wanted to find some further proof before you actually did it just in case I'm wrong. But I found this:
If you read the comments you'll see that's a 3000F glass blowing torch and this is their 10th repetition of this test, there was no failure prior to this.

Well here it is. I had six nails laid out 3 "Quartz" bangers from hyman I believe and 3 random glass nails that came with dhgate pieces. I didn't even up testing them. One cuz there was no point, you'll see. Two I was heating it then dropped it like a dumb ass. In my defense I had a long night at work and just vaped so I'm all thumbs. If u want to see me do them let me know.
I did 2 different bangers but figured one was enough for the video seeing I don't know shit about editing.
