Custom Glass Ideas/Designs Thread

Any new pics of the devastator clone?

I was thinking of eventually getting something like that or the ufo to use with a whip for when I'm in bed.

Not that have anything useful to chime in about water pipe design... But less can be better than more! If less doesn't work the piece can be refined later down the road? (I mean this in terms of making changes to the design)

Figured I'd attach tdubs pic of his.

@Frederick McGuire you've sold me on the devistator! Thanks for the detailed reply.

I see only 1 FC-Donut has sold, is that to a forum member? I am tempted to buy one because I have a $5 coupon thats about to expire.

So I just put the FC-710 back in rotation after some heavy Straight Fab, Beaker Fab, Egg rotations and I must say, WE NEED A BETTER MOUTHPIECE ON THE FC-710. How was that rework development going? I love the taste I get out of this pump, but this MP is way too thin compared to the more premium pieces.

I agree, i love my 710 but it's the thinnest piece i have from Steve.

I told Steven that there was only limited interest in the dp-mini design, but he was still interested in producing some and asked for specific dimensions. I haven't had a chance to send an image with dimensions added yet, but included below is the most recent design image I sent him. I haven't posted it here yet because I didn't think there was much interest, but I've modified the design in response to comments and criticisms from earlier.

IMO a dewaar (or even a regular) 18mm joint would be so much better than the dropdown on this piece...
The water level should be roughly in the middle of the slanted bit of the upstem, so you want the bottom of the dropdown to be higher than that (not by much, just a few mm, but definitely not lower...)

I agree, I didn't have a problem with the male 14mm on the FC-710 either, I just get a nice F-F drop down since I run a drop on all my rigs anyways. All the rigs are protected and all end in 14mm female for the nail.

I'm trying to incorporate what people want with this design. I don't want to go with a dewaar because clearance issues limit the use of drop downs. Having the joint out front rather than on top allows a little bit more distance from the face when in use, and a clear view of the top of the can.

Here's the most recent version:

I think there are a lot of us waiting on that Devastator. I wouldn't be surprised to see the first run sell out, especially if he only makes 50. How many of the UFOv1 were sold in the first week?

Added: It would be nice, tho, if the MP was male to go along with the other pieces I would use it with. The Zion, and the UFO, for example, are female.

:(

-It's so easy and cheap to get a female mouthpiece, and the devastator is meant to be able to use hydratubes as a mouthpiece.

-Having to use a m2m in there to add a Hydratube mouthpiece is not a desireable setup.

-if we get a devastators made with the male joint, it will be easier to get steven to a) make hydratubes, and b) create some kind of bundle deal if people want to get the full setup

-in general it is better for vapor to flow OUT of male joints and INTO female joints - this leads to the least amount of gunk (read none) accumulating on the joints. When you have vapor flowing into a male, you always get buildup of either oils or herb debris right on the edge of the joint, which can make it more prone to sticking.

Imo there is no functional advantage to making it a female joint.
All that would do is somewhat increase compatibility with cheaper mouthpieces (Imo using a f2f to make a male mouthpiece work is far more desirable than having to use a m2m with a hydratube) and potentially look a little cleaner.
At the cost of significantly lowering the compatibility with higher quality/more expensive mouthpieces (hydratubes), as well as lowering the potential customer base that would want a hydratube (as it stands it's really only those with a cloud, or with a vape they can already use vertical, we can't really assume any combusters are gonna come along and buy a hydratube...
If someone buys a devastator, they now have a piece that can be further expanded by a hydratube)...

TL/DR - IMO that male joint is VERY important to the design.

I think a female joint mp also has a much more reasonable outer diameter - the FC-UFO mp feels pretty tiny IMO.

I just found this thread which is excellent because I'm in need of help.

I contacted steven to see if he could make me a straight fab with propeller perc. Jane responded and said yes they can make it but they need a close up of the perc to see how to make it.

I drew up an image of how I think it works, but am unsure if it will. Can you guys help?

Thinking about it some more the glass piece surrounding the down stem would have to be curved so as to make a chamber for the air to travel. More arms the better too. Maybe three or four!

Please help me with this.

I don't understand your propeller perc in that pic.

It looks like it has Perc holes at the base of the glass where the "fins" of the propeller come out, then an upward and downward facing perc hole at the end of each fin?

As far as I can tell from looking at vids of it, each fin has 3-4 holes, at the outer end, parallel to the ground, with each set of holes opposite each other
(So if you had a top view of the perc, with fins facing east and west, the east fin would have north facing holes, and the west fin would have south facing holes.)

I would be careful about adding more arms - it could absolutely work, but more arms means less "push" per arm, and more arms means more drag for the perc through the water.
If more arms work I'm in, just gotta be careful it won't stop the perc spinning.

What I'm saying is the section I highlighted in red is all one piece. The part highlighted in blue is the 'cup' welded to the base, used to hold the perc in place

In this other glass thread on here Ratchett pointed out how it's done. Huge thanks to him.

I'm just starting to get into glass. I have learned a TON just by reading up here. So... you guys who are veterans obviously know more than me. When it comes to custom jobs, does anybody do hydratubes? I have a Cloud Evo & really like the couple that I got. More would be nice!
