Trying to find somewhere in this thread what type of wire I should set my IPV4S to, ni200 or ti ?
I have option for ni200 or ti in my menu for temp control.
Which one would I use ?

So I'm new to this mod. Didn't realize that even in temp control you can adjust the power going to the unit. Didn't know I could adjust the Joules, was wondering why every temp seemed the same.

So I accidentally pumped 30 Joules into the donut, burning it out.

My 4th one. Man. I'm tempted to get another now that I have a temp control mod but..... dunno.

Seeing as y'all have such raving reviews for temp control I might.

Got my 2.5 today. Paired it with a istick 40w tc. Really digging this atty. 340f seems to be sweet spot for me right now.

I recently purchased myself the iStick 40W TC glad to hear somebody else on here has one but I'm still waiting for mine to arrive; I was just wondering how well it performs with the ceramic atomizer because I was also wanting to get one of them but from reading online and the more recent reviews since they are slowly rolling out everyone is saying on TC mode you can't change the wattage that it is locked in on 40W.

Now a lot of people say it isn't to bad because it just maxes at 40W supposedly and slowly builds up to 40W until it reaches your set temp and then doesn't go higher so it may not even reach the full 40W my worry is burning out the atty because the wattage in TC mode will be to high for it, has this been an issue with you?

Wait til you try it with a temp control mod. After several hits, the oil still smells like oil and not charcoal!

4 month guarantee on the base with proper use.

Keep the wattage as low as possible. All batteries are not created equal. Some you can have at 13w some you will crack the donut at 13w. Get to know your battery. Test the donut at low temps the first time and gradually go up from there to get the desired amount of vapor and flavor.

If it is red it's too hot and will crack the donut, I only get it red in short pulses to clean it at 17w. (see my youtube video).

Pack only the amount of concentrate for the session you are having at that time. Do not pack anymore than that. You lose a lot of properties from your concentrates when they are heated to the temps to vaporize. So why would you want the 10th hit of a bowl that has nothing consistent with the first hit?I would not want to be the one to have that 10th hit. Keep your consumption clean. At the end of the hit let off the button and as it is cooling clear the holes by drawing,, this will harden the concentrates and keep the holes clear for the next hit and also minimize leakage. Do not use your atomizer to store concentrate.

Thanks for the reply, I had made a purchase for a "shallow" version Friday (took your recommendation on liking the shallow more than deep) and that is good news because apparently the iStick 40W TC can only do temp control with Ni wire.

(picked up a freakshow mini rda today running dual coil kanthal build) < this is for my juices but I noticed when I try to run TC it just goes back into wattage.

So it's great to hear reassures my purchase because it should be able to push temp control if the leads are NiChrome.

Can't wait for it to arrive and test it out!

I've been using your Version 2.5 Ceramic Donut Atomizer all week with the 30W non-TC iStick and I think your atomizer is really terrific. I have bunch to say about it, and my experiences so far, but some of it will have to wait until tomorrow. tl;dr is that I think it's the best concentrate atty I have ever used. I'm going to refer to it as "CDA" in the rest of this message.

Confusingly enough, in my preliminary "tests" using the 40W TC iStick, I must say that so far I am preferring the CDA with the battery in regulated mode rather than TC mode. I run the standard (0.8Ω) CDA at 12.5W and I'm really happy. The day to day, load to load, from a full load until it's empty, hit after hit, consistancy is outstanding with thick clouds, GREAT accurate taste, and zero tendency to cough.

As far as the TC40W itself in temp control mode, I find that 300°F is as strong as I can take; any more and I am likely to cough. And for some reason I am at a total loss to explain, even at 300°F, the taste is not nearly as nice as when I just have the TC40W set to 12.5W in standard regulated (non-TC) mode. Plus the clouds aren't nearly as thick and I cough half the time. Maybe the initial surge of 40W that the iStick provides causes the donut to heat up beyond what I want for an instant or two until the resistance changes enough that the temperature limit kicks in. It's not really a burnt taste, but it's not particularly nice, and I don't get the bad taste unless I'm in TC mode.

When the iStick TC40W set to temp mode puts the initial 40 watts into the donut, it's putting 5.66 volts to it. It doesn't stay there for long, (250ms-500ms as a guess), but maybe that's why I'm finding a bad taste in TC mode with the iStick. Or not. More experimenting is in order. (And I don't really care if I just run your CDA in regulated wattage mode, at 12.5W. The important part is the CDA, not the battery, and it's the best drippable atty I have by a long shot). I'm interested in your thoughts about this, and your experience as you get a little time under your belt with the new TC iStick.

fwiw, at 0.8Ω nominal,
10.0W = 2.83v
12.5W = 3.16v
17.5W = 3.74v
40.0W = 5.66v

btw, my particular CDA is 0.67-0.71Ω cold, and (when completely clean) it won't start glowing red until I feed it 10W, at which point it takes a good 10 seconds after applying voltage before one can see the dual faint red glows. At 12.5W it starts to glow after about 2 or 3 seconds, and after 10 seconds will light up the whole donut except the part where the terminal wires live. (It doesn't glow like that at 12.5W when it's loaded, just when it's clean and empty). I've been feeding it 5W to melt a fresh load into the chamber, via a few pulses. Melts the concentrate like a champ without vaporizing any of it.

I do have my doubts the CDA follows the temp/resistance track of Ni200 wire, but one can certainly find out the best temperature setting for a given TC battery by starting very low and dry firing the CDA until one sees the same amount (or lack thereof) of glow that one likes in non-TC mode.

I clean it in two steps, first by pulsing it at 17.5W and blowing through the holes (much like you show in your "how to clean me" video), and then I clean it an iso or ethanol bath. Oh, and I think you should consider closing off the two holes in the side of the 510 connector. I get a tiny leakage of oil there if I've been hitting a big load continuously, when the oil is very thin due to the heat and there's a lot of it. Since the vast majority of air seems to come from the holes in the side of the ceramic base, I don't think the tiny bit of air from the 510 connector will be significant, and the occasional tiny hot oil leak will go away (unless the 510 holes are needed to properly clean the CDA or something).


Anyway, I think the world of your Ceramic Donut Atty, and I think the iStick batteries are a great match, even if I seem to prefer my battery in constant regulated power mode. I'll probably email you later this week to take you up on your offer of a discount on a second CDA. Plus I do want to discuss the difference (in use) between the higher resistance donut version, beyond that it will work on older batteries. (but that will wait until the next message :))

What kind of battery does it take? I love the swap-able 18650 feature of the Invader.

Also, I am getting a good amount of residue on the underside of the mouthpiece on the donut atty. What's the best way to reclaim that? I though of freezing the mouthpiece and knocking the hard chunks off...what do you think?

Well folks, and Matt :

I finally got a temp control mod. I wanted the invader mini but was desperate for a mod after getting mine stolen and so i got the IPV 4S, and am happy with it.

I use the ceramic donut at 300F and 20 Joules. Don't ask me to equate joules to watts, it's nearly impossible.

However, I took my own advice that I told Matt and he posted, I started with lowest settings and worked my way up. This really is the best way to test how your mod/atty combo works.

All my normal non-temp control mods have burned out Matt's donuts eventually. And on 10w on normal mode I just wasn't getting a satisfactory action.

HOWEVER on temp control I get very good tasting hits, good action. I only load one hit at a time.

IF I leave my finger on the firing button 8 seconds the donut begins to glow. But I let off before that point, pulsing about every 2-3 seconds.

I have also begun closing one airhole while i draw because I feel there's a bit too much air ! Maybe this will lessen as I use it more and more buildup occurs.

SO to everyone with an IPV 4S: 1st of all YES even though Matt's donut reads 0.8 ohms you can still use it in ni200 mode. I know the manual says only 0.05-0.30 in temp control mode but ignore it, the donut will perform fine.

I was going to try higher than 300F but fear cracking it, as I've done with so many before.

Cleaning it will be a nervous task as well, as I don't want to overheat the donut....

BUT ALL IN ALL I'D SAY ITS A GREAT EXPERIENCE AND MATT HAS BEEN VERY PATIENT WITH ME.

I must say USE THIS WITH A TEMP CONTROL MOD, you'll be happy you did.

So, in closing I'd like to say I'd include an image with this post except the DONUT WAS STOLEN, so, I'm going to have to order another one from Matt.

Yes back to coughing dabs again until I get another v2.5 . However his mail is quick so it won't be too long.

It has a built-in (18650) battery. Not user replaceable. Some controversy about whether it's really 2600mAh as claimed, or 1800mAh as labeled (Phil Busardo took one of his iStick TC40W's apart and the watt-hours were printed on the battery). I'll check in the next couple of days to see what mine is like (by discharging it completely and then monitoring how much goes in before it's full).

I get the same build-up (condensation). I was thinking about heating it (rather than freezing it) to get the residue to drip down onto something. Right now I'm using the "scrape" method with the little dab tool that was included. It was one of the questions I was going to ask as well.

I may as well start by mentioning the TC mod I'm having great results with on everything. You can set temp and watts independently, i.e. it doesn't max out the watts in TC mode, so you can set power low enough that a TC coil never fully reaches temp, or slowly gets there, or high enough that it acts like an iStick TC40W (but at 50 watts). I have two of these KangXin MiniVFs, they feel and act solid, no rattling, very ergonomic shape. The free shipping from China takes 2-3 weeks, and they offer a 4-5 day ship for $6.

Matt has been an absolute angel for dealing with my ongoing issues with this product...
However I can now say it works great on my temp control mod, the IPV 4S.
A tip to all temp control users, set the resistance before you begin. Like make sure it's at least close, mine reads 0.785 ...on the IPV 4S you have to hold both the + and - buttons down simultaneously to set the base resistance. Without this step, you WILL be disappointed.
I'm running at 20 Joules, 330 F. You can see the pulsing action of the mod if you look at the donut while firing, once it hits red it backs off and pulses. A very nice pair to be sure.

So Matt all the best and THANX for all the help. Here's a pic for y'all. Happy vaping !

The KX50D board used in the KangXin mini VaporFlask uses Watts as a power setting and Degrees F for a temperature limit. I have no idea how the IPV4S' Joules apply, seeing as one Joule is a Watt during one second. But wow, what a black beauty! Each chipset is going to have its peculiarities.

From the company's descriptions, and the Youtube demos (including Busardo's ever more tedious Lawd knows why picky discussions of "the signal"), I'm pretty sure by now that the $65 Heatvape Invader Mini 50W and the $40 Kangxin Mini VF 50W use the very same chip/firmware.

The Invader Mini at 215 grams adds its splash-proof rubberiness and ability to crack nuts, while the Mini VF at 115 g adds that blue LED that faintly glows with the FIRE button and a high intensity LED flashlight. Your choice.

Both apparently accept TC coils from 0.1 to 1 ohm, and kanthal coils frrom 0.15 to 2.0 ohm. They won't fire with coils > 2 ohms. That makes sense since you couldn't produce 50 watts with 9.9 V at resistances over 2 ohms, so that's the limit. At low R, say 0.2 ohm, in WC mode I've seen it even drop below half a volt to meet a 1 watt setpoint, so watts override voltage. I'm sure more miracles are coming, but for now this chipset is solid.

Highly recommended.
I didn't have the fancy glass (quartz?) job Matt had in his video.... used some surgical tubing to fit it into my bubb. Works like a charm.

Once again folks, if you're not using temp control on this thing you're really missing out (and might just burn it out).
