"What type of grind would you recommend, and how tightly do you suggest packing the HipVap for best results?"

"I am still trying different methods for best results and will not give up until I get the results I know the HipVap is capable of.

Any suggestions for optimal performance would be greatly appreciated."

We have posted a couple of video tips

New longer Mouth Piece for high temp vapes and water tool compatibility

Use silicone lids for smaller oven loads

Would the silicone really work as well as the oil can upside down? Since the metal of the can is conductive unlike the silicone lid? Downside of the can is that it only works for smaller loads ofcourse, not medium loads (unless a smaller can option was made as well). I'll have to try the silicone too though, the trick is keeping it tightly packed during use (tried some cotton as a spacer too, not as good as the cans)

Also looks like the unit in the video has a metal plate on the oven door for the bottom of the chamber? Is that another new update? I think it would be great to help the oven perform a little more efficiently. I am still finding it cools a lot during a hit, I need to slow sip it or take smaller puffs, and seems like not such a consistent cloud production even at higher temps for me

I agree with you @Shit Snacks I too have to sip it to get good results otherwise the draw is too harsh.
I am getting inconsistent and wispy vapor as well.
The new mouthpiece is very nice, but I do not have one so I must suffer the harshness of the small stock MP for now.

I also noticed the bottom steel button on the bottom of the unit in the video. I would think this would be most beneficial for heat transference, much more than using the silicone plug or the stock plastic chamber bottom (not a fan at all of the plastic bottom at all).

Can we send our HipVaps in for the units with the steel bottom chamber under the warranty?

IMO I think I would be more satisfied with the steel chamber bottom, and get the results I'm looking for.

Just my :2c:

looks like the new mouthpiece/water tool are dropping in june. its possible that our units are samples "beta" and the normal once have the metal in the oven lids.

definitely want to pick up an all black unit to keep my black and silver company :)

@Vape Dr. have you tried throwing an Indica spacer in the oven? It is putting a square peg in a circle, but actually seems to be working quite well cloud wise with the extra conduction surface and thick steel of the spacer helps maintain oven temp better as well (like using Ascent with glass flowers). Getting surprisingly big clouds at 350 even, but tastse is kinda eh as it turns pretty quick. Not the most elegant solution, but much better results than the cans

I've been using the HipVap as my main pocket vape for a few weeks now. I have to say it's the best I've used in the stealth category, as far as a unit that's comfortably a good fit in any pocket that I have (especially the front pants pocket, with the 'flask curve') and one that disappears in my hand. It's just over 3" high and the mouthpiece adds another half an inch. In my average size hand only the top half of the mp is visible, and I've carried it in public quite a bit without anyone giving it a glance. It's easy to palm. I don't do concentrates, so I'll leave that aspect for others to review.

It's very user friendly control wise, with a .25" x .5" blue temp display and a large LED lit power button that tells you what state it's in via color. A 3 sec. press powers it on and color goes quickly from blue to red (heating up), and then green when the chosen temp is reached. When the heater times out (toggle button on the upper right changes 'heater on' time from one min. to 10, in one min. increments- a really nice feature), the LED goes back to blue, and one press of the button turns the heater back on. During a draw the LED will go from green to red, reflecting the temp drop during the hit, and it very quickly returns to green. From a cold start the vape reaches 350F in about 50 sec., with the power button pulsing in red as it heats up. The left toggle switch, above the on/off button, changes the temp, with each press moving it up or down by 2 degrees.

The bowl is .5" across. Half inch screens are cheap on eBay, but one screen should last a long time. I would use a fine mesh (or maybe 2 coarser ones), since it's a one screen vape. Bowl depth is 5/8" so it's very easy to see how much you've got loaded. With a .5" diameter, I thought a well packed bowl might need a stir to get it all vaped, but I haven't found that necessary. As long as I take the temp up to around 400 before unloading, it all gets evenly cooked. It doesn't seem to matter much how fine you grind, but as with most models, a finer grind means you can load more and you'll likely get more vapor per hit. The screen goes in easily and sits flat. I can get it almost all the way seated with my pinkie. For removal I've found it's best to poke it out from the top. My old 7th Floor picks do that very well. The mouthpiece is keyed to fit and stays put very well. Haven't had it come off yet, but you do get 2 extras, just in case. Cleaning is very easy. Just push a pipe cleaner through the vapor path, and use a cotton swab w/ISO to clean the mp and bowl. The short, wide bowl makes it easy to see whether you've got it clean or not. I much prefer this short, wide bowl over the longer, more narrow ones on most pocket vapes. Loading the wider bowl is also easier.

In use the unit doesn't get too hot on either the housing or the mp. Although I haven't taken the temp much above 400, I have gone to 420 a couple of times on a long session with no problems. You can get some really nice hits if you load large, but it's designed for small size and stealth, so complaints about 'no eye watering hits with big clouds' aren't applicable, in all fairness. That said, I think it does about as well, hit wise, as other pocket vapes I've been using lately- Flowermate and Storm. I normally start a bowl at about 340, and moving the temp up in steps to around 400, a well loaded bowl provides lots of hits. The battery has not died on me. I don't do marathon portable sessions, so I'm not a good tester for that. I did a burn in first thing, but saw nothing burning off, and taste has been fine. Portables in particular, take a turn for the worse on taste near the end of the bowl, due to ABV. This one's no different, but the vape doesn't add to the ABV problem.

For me, the biggest downside of this model is that it doesn't have user replaceable batteries. HipVap says they're going to offer a good deal on bat replacement. I guess we'll find out exactly what the cost is. I did ask, but they hadn't decided on a cost yet. I'd prefer to know before I bought, since at $200 I don't consider it to be a disposable vape. You do get a 2 year warranty.

I was a little skeptical about this model initially, but after getting it and using it a while, I admit I'm pleasantly surprised. It's very easy to use and clean. I love the option to change the 'heater on time' up to 10 min., and when it does time out, that blue light is easy to see and after the one button units I've used, with all the multiple presses necessary to get 'em going again, one single press for the HipVap is a nice change. I'd rate the vape very high as a pocket model. IMO it really has no weakness, considering the design, other than eventual battery death, and it should be 2-3 years, depending on how you use, before you'll have to deal with that. It's a great addition to the pocket vape market and hard to beat for ease of use and cleaning.

Saw a review for the HipVap on YouTube today for the first time. Found it very appealing and would like to get one. Problem is I went to their website and everything is sold out, not even taking pre-orders. Google doesn't list any other sellers, anyone know where and when I'll be able to find one?

@Hubs88 Don't quote me on this but I believe they are adding the extended mouthpiece/14mm water tool attachment, and the pods with little handles on their lids to come standard..... and hopefully a steel bottom oven chamber!

They are a great company and love to hear suggestions and feedback.

You can call them at (720)-316-1960 and see when they will be available.

tl;dr Alfa is the best, he doesn't even try the Tripper Flask, the performance by the HipVap is poor.

the performance by the HipVap is poor.
Compared to? I've used pocket portables since the iolite was introduced back in '08, as the iInhale, and for what it is, a small easy to conceal (in pocket or hand) stealth vape, I think the HipVap is the best I've used. It works fine and if anyone is disappointed in the vapor as far as output, taste, or smoothness, I think they're comparing it to models that don't offer the stealth that this one does. Anything larger would not hide in my hand like this one does, and it's a great fit in the pants or shirt pocket. I admit I haven't used the Alfa, but since I'm quite satisfied with the HipVap as a pocket vape, it doesn't tempt me. I sure don't need another portable.

Google doesn't list any other sellers
If you search 'hipvap vaporizer', you should find several other sellers. The only one selling for the $200 price though is this one- https://kingpenvapes.com/shop/product/hipvap-vaporizer/ They're authorized for the HipVap, have stock, and offer free shipping. You may not get the new extended mouthpiece though, although I have no problem at all with the original, other than it not being the right shape for connecting to a glass piece.

Hi,

I wanted to update everybody and give some official commentary on the posts from the last few weeks. We have been very busy analysing every question and problem put to us.

Our first batch of HipVaps have indeed sold out and the HipVap will be available again for pre-order from early July with expected mailing date of August 1st.

We will be adding longer mouthpieces as originally mentioned compatible with the Pinacle Water Pipe and the Namaste Water Pipe.

mouthpieces.jpg

We will be making a small adjustment to the pods, adding a ring pull to the silicone lid to make it easier to remove the lid from the chamber.

ringpull_herb_pods.jpg

We will also include a small tool, useful for:
1) Removing Pods
2) Applying Waxes
3) Cleaning
4) Stiring

pod_herb_tool.jpg

A few users mentioned a new factory smell and discoloration of the PPS on the door initially on units. While we still recommend initial burnoffs as with any new vaporizer, we have examined every part and manufacturing process from the product to the packaging and taken steps to reduce and remove any smell, taste and discoloration related issues. Without going into excessive details on our manufacturing processes I have included 2 such changes we have made.

1) We have changed the inner tray foam packaging the HipVap was distributed in. This has been swapped out for a PS vacuum formed tray similarly used by Apple for their iPads. It is environmentally friendly does not have any smell.
2) The PPS we will pre-bake to ensure a more uniform color remains on the inside of the door at the bottom of the oven.

@Vape Dr.

"I also noticed the bottom steel button on the bottom of the unit in the video. I would think this would be most beneficial for heat transference, much more than using the silicone plug or the stock plastic chamber bottom"

To keep our unit so small and sleek we made the door quite thin, so over time it can get quite warm. Having stainless steel in the door increased the heat at the base of the door. After testing the difference between the two materials the heat inside the chamber was negligible. So we decided to go with the PPS. After considerable testing on all parts of the unit we are confident there are no smell issues from the PPS as previously mentioned.

We also looked at various configurations, shapes and sizes of pins to add to the pods but found in our testing that it is a far more effective solution to use the metal pods or silicone lids. Silicone lids work well on small and also on full oven loads, it helps compact the herb allowing for a more even distribution of heat. The holes in the pod screens and silicone lids help the air flow through the compact herb, this results in a smoother, flavorable vaping experience.

We plan to offer battery replacement at $25+shipping. We will list this option on our website with accessories in the next few months. We don't expect this to be an issue for users for some time.

I have been using the HipVap daily and have not noticed any bad taste, the taste actually is very good. I can see how the SS bottom would change the heat in the oven.

I am loving using the HipVap, I can't wait to try it with the F-Bomb 14mm water tool.

I have been packing the oil pods with great results!

Thank you for the information!

It's great to see you on FC!

Still enjoying my hipVap, I experimented with concentrates and get nice clouds with oil pods+wicks but nothing interesting with bubble hash (without wicks), I need to try kief....

Taste is nice....although not the better...imho!

Vape Dr, do you load shatter with or without the wicks?

One cons is the very bright lights, you can hide it with your hand but you still see the light, the Alfa is a lot stealthier that's sure!

@PPN I have been trying many methods with shatter. I have had decent results using the hercules SR-74 titanium coils in the HipVap oil canister.
Here is a link to the coils I'm testing out now.
http://www.w9tech.com/spare-parts/

I am trying and will find the best method of oil usage in the HipVap. I prefer not using cotton or silica wicks. I like using titanium or ceramic wicks for the best taste IMO.
I also have some SR-71 coils but they are too long to put into the pod.
I also have some custom titanium coils, but I would prefer to find a coil that anyone can buy.

I will keep you posted and let you know the best method of shatter in the HipVap.

Hi, no issues to get nice clouds and effect with this little bad boy, I setted my timer to 4mn.

Taste is really similar to the Haze with conduction screen

Although I noticed it produces ton of reclaim and when you use it upright this one drip in the unit, I was able to recover most of it with a upside down session but the unit will be full of reclaim with time....

***Quick update on the new HipVap***

I have been using the HipVap frequently.
The longer mouth piece/water tool attachment gives a much cooler draw as @blackbur pointed out.
The new silicone O-rings around the buttons make the unit feel much more durable.
The temperature seem much more stable.
The bottom lid tighter tolerance helps to keep the temps more stable IMO.

I have been really enjoying the HipVap with .1 grams while using the concentrate pod with no silicone lid. I find this to be the tastiest most efficient way to use the HipVap, especially with a one person sessions.

I find I'm able to start at 350F, take 6 draws plus 1 or 2 cool down draws.
Then I bump up the temperature up in 10 degree increments until 380F.

The taste stays there for the most part and I get well over 20 draws with very little material.

So far so good with battery life as well.

I Will try the HipVap with my F-bomb 14mm water tool when I return back home and give further results.

***EDIT IN***
The ABV is nice and uniform with small loads.

Hmm I still have the original version as far as I know, and had similar results for the most part, using the oil cans and later even Indica spacers for some larger, yet still not full, loads.
Haven't used it in a long while though since I'm all on demand convection these days...

HipVap customer service is still great though, sent me the new mouthpiece and other accessories to try for free, even resent them after the post office failed to deliver.

With the new pricing and everything else now, this seems to be overall a very solid stealth session conduction option, great for a joint smoker and/or group stealther.
