Discontinued The Grasshopper

Unless early receivers are just being overly sensitive I have a feeling it will get noticeably hotter than a Pax simply because I don't remember early Pax adopters complaining about heat while just about every single person if not every single person that has gotten a GH has mentioned how hot it gets.
Pax = plastic mouthpiece
Grasshopper = metal mouthpiece

Heat is heat whether it is held in metal or plastic. Not sure I see your point @tubasco

Are you just pointing out the fact that metal will heat up faster and retain heat more than plastic?

My unsolicited opinion: The ss model should sell for $150, ti for $190 and colored ti for $200. Anything more is because of distributors and middle men; if hl can meet these price points the world is theirs :tup:

It's all about giving margin to retail, distributors or no distributors. The crowd funded price had no margin built in which is why they could offer so cheap. Every other vape sold through retailers has this type of margin in their list price...so should the hopper.

sorry, yes, that's what I meant. I'm fairly certain the specific plastic used in the Pax mouthpiece actually does have "better thermal properties" than metal, in that it takes longer to get to the same temperature as metal. I think that attribute would be desirable in a vape mouthpiece.
That being said, I am thrilled that the GH is almost all metal. I intend to use it as an on demand one-hitter, as I think that's where this design shines.

The GH is a unique vape and yes it does get hot but it cools down fast and the Ti version cools even faster, which I will be comparing to the SS eventually..... I generally use the GH out and about, usually on setting 3-4, click it on, take a pull for about 5-7 seconds and click it off. Now, you can keep hitting it, one after another, without any rest time in between or you can leave it on but it will most likely get too hot on your lips to hit it comfortably without the silicone guard. I almost never use the guard but I let the GH rest for maybe a minute roughly, between each hit after the first two hits or so, when the vape has warmed to the touch a bit or let it rest every other hit is also fine for me. Normally that's how I vape, I don't like to rush, I take my time and hit it, rest, daydream, hit it, rest, hit it, fall asleep, hit it, rest, eat food, hit it etc. and the GH is made for this method! It takes seconds to heat up, seconds to cool down, relax and enjoy the vape. If your in a hurry and can't rest the GH between every hit or every other hit, then you may need the guard, depending on your temp, draw speed/duration, amount of material etc. Maybe its just me, but I always feel rushed when I know I have something heated up, using power and heating my material and that's why I love the GH so much. It just makes sense to me for a portable vape to be one only when your hitting it, not all the time.......but I do love my session vapes too, for different situations and reasons.

Everyone will have different opinions on the heat level because everyone has different vape methods and preferences, sensitivities etc. . For me, the GH is comfortable, not hot, with my method of use and without the silicone guard. Don't expect the Gh to be as cool as the Crafty and don't expect the GH to burn your lips off either. The GH is capable of delivering cool, comfortable hits, you may just need to slow down or change your method a smidgen. The GH takes a few seconds for the heat to radiate out to the outside of the unit so its not like all of the sudden your hitting it and BAM, BURNING LIPS! The heat eventually gets to the tip and it can definitely be warm on your lips if you don't let it rest. It only takes a minute to cool down to a more than comfortable heat level.

@ Kalessin

You will love the GH for a one hitter vape! I have not found any other vape that works better for this situation because the chamber design allows you to use the smallest amount of herb possible or fill it up. Just put a pinch in at a time and change it out every hit or two and you will always have fresh, clean tasting vapor. This vape is very efficient so it really allows you to use less material which also cuts back on having to hit it again and again to get a proper effect, in turn, keeping the unit cooler overall. I normally don't use my Crafty or Mighty for pinches, even though they do pinches just fine, it's just that I almost feel guilty not filling the chamber all the way because your taking a few minutes and a lot of energy to get up to your temperature so you want to make it worth it......that's just me though.

Unfortunately my sense of smell is basically nonexistent, which greatly impairs my sense of taste, so I am sadly unable to taste weed. It's terrible with all the time I spend reading you guys talking about how great it tastes haha. I am desperately in need of a more effecient unit, though.

Hmm. Thanks for the feedback. I'm not -terribly- worried about the heat of it, but I do wonder how I'll feel about it when I get it. My Pax gets so hot I don't want to touch my lips fully to it after 8 or 9 minutes of use, I just hope it's no worse than that.

I have a pax2 and have it on for extended periods a lot but never as long as 9 minutes so I don't know how hot it gets, I have mine on for maybe 6 minutes tops, that said, I've NEVER had my grasshopper on for anywhere near that long, you gotta remember you can't compare this to a pax at all because of conduction vs. convection. Convection is so much more effecient at extraction (and tasty) theres no reason to have it on for long periods of time. Like I said before, with 8 people trying it while on vacation, nobody ever asked for the mouthpiece or said they weren't as high as they wanted to be after a few rips and it wasn't a bunch of lightweights.

I am hoping 150, 200, and 210, but think it may be closer to 180, 240, and 250.

also @Snappo don't know if that's your review or not but get ready for onslaught, saying positive things about the GH is dangerous business, also thanks for saving $350! I was so close to scratching my Crafty itch. 3 weeks in I'm finding the solution to every grasshopper "problem" (it gets a little hot if you have to share it with others, or someone else is ALWAYS using it cus it's cool etc.) is another Grasshopper, now that there's at least another crafty owner that prefers the GH (@midgetsanchez said similar things) I think I spend that $350 on another GH and and ounce of weed ... and I'll still have $10 for tacos!

I wouldn't say people are complaining, I'd say people are reporting the heat - it's a well known fact by this point that the mouthpiece get's hot fast. But I don't care - because my Pax can't go from 60F to 385F in under 5 seconds.

My question is - does the TI mouthpiece get hot faster or slower than SS version?

If God is the answer, then the question is wrong

Not an expert but if it cool down faster it should get hot faster too.

It definitely sounds like a universal complaint that the device gets too hot to be comfortable past certain temps without the silicon.

I am gonna wait til I get a chance to actually see one of these in person and use it before I commit to buying one. I don't really need a new flower vape (the Mighty has me plenty covered for this!) just now so I wanna wait and see that this device actually will be useful for my needs first.
As soon as mine comes we can do a side by side with the mighty :D

They won't rule the world if those are the retail price points. I'm hopeful that they are making money at $135. If they are, then this could be a real success. Think of the $135 as the insider's price that we get to take advantage of because we are in the know. But the world knows nothing of this thing. It takes a lot of marketing power and distribution infrastructure to get them to the masses and make money, and they will only do that if they have built in enough head room on their final retail price. I would love to see it debut to the public at $275. If they can hit this price point and still get the guys like VapeWorld involved with their marketing power and distribution, it will work wonderfully. The function and feature set command a higher price, so it should be an easy sell at that price point. If they plan to only sell them for $135, they will never get into the big distribution channels and it will go the path of a slow death or an even slower success.

So this thing makes a ticking noise whenever it's on (it's subtle, but it's there). Some people have posted about this, but i recall others saying it had stopped. What's the verdict on that? Mines does it whenever it's on.
After I had taken the main pieces apart to check it out, once it was out back together, the back end got really friggen hot. Like, hot as in I had shut it off and take the back end and battery out. I cleaned the battery ends (thin film of dark colored substance) and cleaned the threading off. There was some grime from the manufacturing process I believe. Testing after that, problem went away. I think this thing is sensitive in that regards. Make sure back end is kept clean, and battery terminals. Other than that, wow. This thing takes so little and works so well. I'm extremely impressed. Showed my buddy and he's like "that's it? You've waited almost two years for that??", his opinion changed after his first draw. :)
Edit: And one thing I was annoyed with, I'm a holiday backer, Upgraded to ti. Never got a leather sleeve. I knew I wasn't getting the ss case just yet, but should have received the leather case.

The ticking is the heater going on and off every 10th of a second or something right? Forgot about that. Hot back end sounds like @lovinlivinlife's issue? But you resolved it yourself? No email to GH?

Shame about the sleeve, they're still in like test ship mode for early backers I guess. Yeah guess I won't see my ss til August (or later?!), hopefully the color Tis will come with it then at least, everyone been getting the extra free battery? Or only for pre orders?
