I stumbled upon a rather unique discovery after breaking in the newest DPG member.

Basically I have a walnut mflb stem and thought it would look great as the mp for the mini walnut. To my surprise when I sized it up to the ss tip it was a snug fit!! So I took out my ss tip from my ud whip and the silicon washer. I simply slid the mflb stem all the way down until it was at the groove behind the screen. Gave it a quick test run. Worked perfectly except the ss was hot. So I took the mflb stem out, put the washer on the end of the ss tip then put the mflb stem back in. The silicon works well to give u a safe grip without touching the hot ss.

Heres pictures

I'm calling it the mini stem. I think if the glass mflb fits this would be a nice way for sampling or delicious one hitters.

Please note my mflb stem did get a tiny scratch nothing major just use gentle force when removing and placing in the ss tip.

You Must Unlearn, What You Have Learned...
Hi Dogs, hope you're all enjoying your Tuesday. We're working on pieces for a refresh and will hopefully have those up this evening for you all to enjoy. Just a friendly PSA...
Hmmn, I was gonna go to the movies tonight, but after hearing that friendly public service announcement, I might just sit on UD's site and hit refresh!

Am I remembering correctly that Black Locust is one of the woods that reacts to black light?

Yep; yellow-green. I've got a Locust mini-dog that has a nice glow to it.

Has anyone else tried the Stir-N-Scoop with the Underdog glass stems? I find that the teeth of the stirrer will get stuck a bit on the edges of the screen within the stem. I tried inverting the screen but found my AVB turned out a lot lighter than before.

I run all of my screens in the glass stems with the stems inverted. Much lower maintenance on the screen.

My UD arrived several days ago, so I thought I would give a mini-review. I've had a couple other log vapes, several portables, and tried other desktop units once or twice.

My standard-sized standard-core "rustic maple" UD is good looking, and was well packaged.

A small touch compared to other logs is that the aroma cups have a ring of rubber near the top so that you can pick them up without tweezers even when they're hot. There are other nice touches, not worth mentioning on their own, but just know that the details are resolved.

The UD's a little hotter to the touch than my previous logs, probably because it's a little smaller, so the heat has to escape from a smaller surface area, but no part is too hot to hold, so it's nothing to worry about.

I got a mix of nylon and glass stems. I prefer the nylon ones because the bowl is slightly smaller and I prefer to use a small quantity, but with some care I'm sure it's possible to suck just as small of a quantity into the glass stems. (Actually, I use a stem from Ed's TnT. It's functionally the same as the nylon stems, but looks cooler.)

I feel like the vaping temp is slightly higher than on my old MZ, and I'm not sure which temperature I prefer, but both are definitely in the acceptable range. The hits are a little denser, the "burnt popcorn" flavor starts a little sooner, and the abv's a little darker, but mostly it's a similar experience.

Because of the (perceived) slightly higher temp, I prefer not to seal my lips around the stem so that some fresh air comes in, which reduces the density, and therefore lung irritation. This works perfectly so I won't bother with a VVPS to lower the power. If your material isn't as dry or finely ground as mine this technique shouldn't be necessary -- some of the heat will go into evaporating that water. Or, if you're used to combusting, even dense vapor will feel smooth. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that I'm a weenie, so the slightly higher vapor density is nothing to worry about.

Anyway, I highly recommend log vapes, and the UD seems to be a good one. In my experience, the best portables still don't match the vapor quality and ease of use, especially if you want even heating of your material without stirring. The Firefly comes closest, and it still doesn't get there. Compared to other convection desktop vapes, logs are just smaller, simpler, and less obtrusive.

I anticipate that this UD will be my daily driver for the next few years. Cheers.

The refresh is almost live! I know you're all dying to see what's in store. I just gotta tie up a few loose ends beforehand! Should be up within 1/2 an hour. :D

Thanks for the review! Glad to see you happy with your UD! If you want just a slightly cooler pup, you can always add an extension cord (the 2.1mm kind that goes between the power supply and vape). If you're not using the one it came with, you might try plugging that in. :) Also, another cheap, non-VVPS solution is the dimmer switch which is about $6 or so as well, available on Amazon. Just search for 12 volt dimmer and make sure it says 2.1mm plug.

Yep, just tested (for the sake of science of course!) and this one glows under black light.

Look at that cute little pup that just arrived! I'm not sure I can identify the breed, but I can tell you that it gets along with my streaked hackberry just fine! I can tell you that this little pup is quite a workhorse and has effortlessly milked my UFO bubbler.

I am just so fond of this new pup, and both @underdog and @underdogette. Its really cool that you guys are so generous to the community. These vapes are so beautiful to look at and really combine form and function. I can see easily why several people collect UD vapes en masse. I have often spoke to my father about taking up vaping to ease his achey joints (He has not used cannabis since well before I was born). One thing that worries him is the idea of a device being discovered by visitors. However, and UD vape with an aroma cup is a piece of art that fills the house with awesome scents. If he ever decides to take the plunge I will be treating him with a dog of his own with a cut of his favorite wood. I'll have to be on the lookout for some cuts of diamond willow.

Underdog, forgive a stupid question but are you able to work with a thick stems and just root out the wood to insert a core? I've never seen diamond willow super thick, but i have come across quite a few stalks that are at least the diameter of my finished Underdogs.

Congratulations again to all of the poet laureates in the forum. The other poems were a pleasure to read!

I can see myself opening a shelter in the future...

Thank you to @underdogette and @underdog. Today, as a first time customer, I can honestly say that I really didn't know what to expect from you or your your vapes a few weeks ago when I was lurking and trying to decide what vape to bring home next. I'm glad I went with you guys. I am more than happy with everything. @underdogette you went back and forth with me for a while to help me understand how to get the most out of a unit if I purchased one. I was ecstatic about the refresh but the 710 Special and Poetry Contest were the icing on the cake. They also were the reason that I went from 0 to 3 Underdogs in less than 2 weeks. I truly understand how people end up with multiple Underdogs because even though I’m really happy with my Dogs there are already a few others that I have my eye on. @underdogette gave me some pointers on how to keep the temp down in my preferred range and I love the vapor. Its taste and temp are perfect for me. After all of this I really understand why the people here support you the way they do. Thanks again.

ps - This new refresh is so tempting

It involves some unique challenges but yes we could probably work with a willow limb and bore it out. If you come across any set them aside and maybe send us a piece to experiment with.

Sounds like you got the battery pack stuff squared away.. enjoying it so far?

UGH! Missed the chance at a glow in the dark mini...:(

Any chance you guys have plans to make more of those black locust minis?!

Good question, wasn't necessarily planning on making more minis in general but we could make you a built-to-order one out of Black Locust for not much more than the normal mini price.
