Relocating to Colorado could use some help from FC

Well, you'd think Coloradans were a little better with snow conditions. Watch for the whackjobs when driving around...

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — A spring snowstorm and icy roads caught Colorado drivers by surprise Friday, causing a 39-vehicle pileup near Boulder and other bad wrecks that shut down highways during the morning commute.

No serious injuries were reported in the crashes on U.S. Highway 36 between Boulder and Denver, but tow-truck drivers were kept busy hauling away damaged cars.

Time for another short update.

First off, THANK YOU ALL for the inquires, well wishes, and shows of support!!!:rockon::wave:

I cannot tell you how lonely I have been feeling and how great it is to log in here and read your posts.
Without knowing most of you(in person), you've all helped make me feel not so alone in a strange place.
I knew this would be rough, but the last few days have been a bit trying.
Housing has been a bear. Some houses that claimed "ready to rent", which of course we are accepted for, aren't available till May, at earliest. Every day I don't have a permanent address, puts me further back from obtaining my Key/Support badge to work in the industry. :bang:

Today I started out at 9am to go look at some housing, that led me to a bad rental, 0ver $2000 for a basement of someones house---for a MONTH. (I'll go over the details once my c.c. dispute is thru)I didn't see that it wasn't all to myself, and showed up to find a nice senior(no geriatric hate old FC'ers, but not how I want to live for the next 30 days)who proceeded to show my the lower level of the home, nice, but WAAAAAAYYYY to expensive for an older home in FOCO(not in old town). After viewing, I excused myself and went out to my car and cried like a bitch:cry:. And then proceeded to yell at my wife on the phone, because she sent me the link, to what I was expecting, to be a whole home to myself. I was using my iphone and am not a mobile-internet user often, and it was hard to see the listing and all on the little iphone screen. And, now, seperated by 2000 miles, I go off of the one person who is by my side no matter what. I now feel alone and quite ashamed. But everything just went wrong, and I let the pressure and stress get the best of me.

So, red-faced mad:cuss:, I drive back to Longmont from FOCO, nice drive, the scenery is gonna make me wreck if I don't stop staring off at them snow-capped mountains:whoa:. Get off at my exit, come to a stop sign, WOW, is my temperature gauge all the way to the upper limit of hot? WTF? Pull over into a Sooper's(King not Queen, locals) and proceed to check my just-detailed-before I left car, under the hood. Hello f@cknuts coolant all over my once pristine engine area!!!! Waited to cool, checked cap, added water, watch water run down some small cracks where it was crimped(metal to plastic) like the fucking Matrix.

I am NOT, NOT, NOT a "car guy". But I know enough to know it's the radiator, not a broken hose. It's 5:30pm, stuck in a grocery parking lot, with EVERYTHING I brought with me, either in the soft roof rack thingy(that DOESN'T lock) or in the hatchback(rear seats fold down). Immediately, I just want to crawl into a hole. I suffer from "no matter how hard I try, shit still always goes wrong" syndrome(I guess it actually is deep depression). One step forward, just to get kidney punched, 10 steps back, and down a few notches.
I can't tow to garage, unless they guarantee my vehicle will be locked and safe indoors. Plus, I wouldn't know who to choose in a new area. Taxi cab, can't fit all my glass collection, vapes, and computers, let alone the rest of the stuff I have, that might not be worth $$, but is all i have, clothes, housewares, etc.
Now 6pm after I call wife and family and let them know of my situation. I start trying to use my iphone to find a car mechanic who will come out to you. Not gonna go into how much I LOATHE these shitty smartphones. Find a company who may be able to come out, but doubtful to put in new radiator. Scratch that, FIND a new radiator so that they could swap it out. I am planning on sleeping in my car at Sooper's for the night so all my stuff doesn't get stolen(possibly, no guarantee, but not a chance I could afford to take). About 7pm the mechanics show up, yep, radiator bad. 13 year old Mazda Protege5. Apparently, mazda didn't use a "good" quality rad(what mech. said). Told me, the 8, 10, 12 hour drives each day, probably stressed it too much, then crapped out. He didn't think new one was available. Pleaded to please check. There is one available, wait for part to be brought out, while they start removal of old one. 945, I finally leave after paying $395 for a radiator for my car. $150 mobile field labor, $148+ for rad and new cap, plus trip charge of $75 and I guess tax. That was not an expected expense for me at all.

So, off to a hotel. Unload all the shit I can't afford to lose, cover the rest with a Transformers blanket, so hopefully no one can see the contents to avoid any break-in. Down to last jeans and long sleeve shirt today, so hopefully none of you see me tomorrow, or rather smell me:shit:.

In a super8 hotel, haven't even medicated yet today, typing this, rather slowly.
I hope tomorrow is gentler. Had to vent somewhere, sorry it had to be with you all.:peace:

Time for another short update. :peace:

That's brutal! I'm so sorry....BUT - the 'Silver' lining (Pun intended) is that often karma/life hits you hard with the 'it comes in threes' and depending on how you count them up you look to have made your bones already. Sometimes all you need is one minor win and the tide turns big time in a situation like this. Here's hoping you get that win today.

Its so hard moving to a new area when you dont know anyone..I wish you the best of luck and send my positive thoughts your way. Seems like the houses around Fort Collins are pretty expensive..I see alot of apts but not many houses for rent..

I did see this rental and dogs are allowed with a fenced in yard

Looks like Loveland has some good priced rentals also..If need help googling places i can try and help look!
Never been to colorado so not familiar with areas .

I feel for ya, man. I've had to do that kind of move before and it sucks to feels so vulnerable in a place you don't know yet. One thing that made it a little easier for me was finding a place to temporarily store my stuff while I looked for a place. That way I wasn't concerned about where I might have to leave my car overnight or even going into placement service or whatever. The feeling of vulnerability of your stuff just adds to the stress. One of the college towns especially might have some temp secure storage. Even if you had to pay a month it might be worth it for the stress reduction.
Just a thought. I hope you find something soon. We are all pullin for ya here...

Alright...got myself a short term apartment in Longmont for now. Trying to settle in, get DL switched over to Colorado, get M.E.D. Support badge, Red card(medical patient), and just adjust to my new surroundings. Got to meet up with @Bouldorado for a much needed mega-session. And I swear I just heard 5-6 shots from a gun...back later on, gotta see whats up.

Glad you have got the big pressure off. Hope the gunshots are actually fireworks...:o
May have been construction workers working on the clubhouse in the complex, but boy was it a quick successive 5 or 6 "shot" sounds. I haven't been to the gun range in a little while, but man was it similar.

Also, I just got my M.E.D. support license:rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon:
I am NOW legally permitted to obtain work in the Canna Industry!!!!!!!!!
I know many others have already done the same, but, FUCK, does it feel so good right now. I never thought I'd really "do it".

Gonna go celebrate quietly with my Nectar Collector and some live resin from Botanico.

Today was a good day

Super envious of you. Not sure how old you are. But I'm not that far from 60, so I've had my fantasies recently about hanging things up around here at that point and going to WA or OR of CO (or who knows where else by then?) to work as a bud tender or groomer or whatever someone would be willing to pay me for. Wouldn't need too much $. A new place with a non-career job that kept me out of trouble and that I could connect with. That would be nice. Have fun!

Awaiting results of 2 job interviews that will determine my ability to stay in Colorado. The job market is not responding to this over-40'er seeking employment. I was actually asked "how old are you" in my job interview today?!?!? Can you believe it? I have been told I don't look my age at all, but I am far from looking under 21, which is should be all that matter legally, for the job. You can't be under 21 and work in a disp in Colorado.

I had one "working" interview, that wasn't a good fit for either of us. Them-producing low quality products, (possibly blasting moldy products), Me-cannabis connoisseur(snob)=not a good fit. I can't work for a company in this industry that I wouldn't use their products myself. So that ended after 5 days.

I was asked back for an interview with a dispensary last month, but I didn't get it due to lack of canna-industry experience, Why ask me back for 2nd interview knowing my weakness is industry experience?? First time in my working career that I didn't get the job after a 2nd interview. That was hard, I thought I was in.

That was when I posted my last note. Kinda down to the wire for something to work out. Running 2 households(Apt./expenses for me here, mortgage/expenses for family in FL) without a steady income is taking it's toll. Regret starting to frequent the mind as well, but trying to stay positive. At what point do you cut and run on your dream? Do I leave as soon as it gets tough? Do I stay and make it harder on my family financially and take the Whatever it Takes approach to succeed? It would be a whole lot easier if it was just me, but it isn't. My decisions affect 4 other lives than mine. I'm not a quitter, but at some point rational financial decisions need to be made., hence my bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, baseball analogy in last post.

Now I am wondering if this was my "mid-life crisis" or whatever you call it when 50 year old Dad comes home with a brand new red-corvette. Fuck, at least I'd be able to drive the Corvette. lol Can't drive depleted(like arrow thru the heart depleted) retirement accounts, or sold stocks.

Thanks for tuning in. Hopefully more positive next post.
