After a couple Paypal snafus, I got my order for my first Zap. Loving the idea of a solid stainless heatport. Rick's choice, I have seen his work and I know he will pick me a good one. I am really curious how the oil cup works...I make and sell a liquid version of those spice blend "incenses", and if this works as a method of delivery, I have a new favorite toy :D

Hey all. Like most of you, I'm way excited about these new changes.

I do have a Walnut Zap already, and, correct me if I'm wrong, but the walnut does tend to run just a tad hotter than the other woods, yes? I prefer the slightly hotter vapor...this will help me make a choice on my new purchase, of course.

Rick, I and all the others I'm sure appreciate all of your efforts with your fine product, as well as the updates you constantly provide us, your captive audience. A constant pleasure and surprise whenever I visit the forums.

Cheers,
M

I was always under the impression that the denser woods would have a tendency to run cooler while the softer woods would run hotter. apparently people have been saying that their walnuts have been running hotter, which I assume has to do with density. I thought the walnuts would run cooler because as a general rule it was a denser wood while the cherrys would run hotter.

someone (hopefully rick) will chime in and let you know the real answer.

Cherry and walnut are said to be very similar in regard to temperature in log vapes.
myrtle is cooler then either cherry or walnut

A little description on the site for the option "Rick's choice" could be helpful.
Is it just "choose randomly" or is it what looks good out of the batch to Rick's good eye?

ob, NYC is right on regarding wood densities. Cherry and walnut are very similar density and always seem to jump to the warm side in short order. Much of the Myrtle we have had in the past was also similar density to cherry and walnut. That was the 40+ years stored inside stuff that is ALL gone now. I guess drying so slowly for several decades made for some extra special wood. If there is a next time, I will treasure it more.
We have recently replenished our Myrtlewood supply. This new batch of Myrtle is on the dense side but is also very fun to look at. Not in the 5 star category as some of our past Myrtles but still very nice. Much of it has light and dark in each piece.
Our SSS heatport should nicely balance out the Myrtle density with the extra heat produced in the new heatport. We do hold all Myrtle orders a day or two longer than Cherry or Walnut to watch and test them closely. A small number of them can crack and the extra day or two of internal 'kiln drying' gets them to our heat specs before shipment. Extended break-in period at Zapville.
Ricks choice. HA! God only knows what that means. I sure do not. It could mean something more special than most but it also mean just a reg that fills out my batch for the day. I included it in the wood choice because more than one customer asked for it. I also thought it might take a little pressure off matching finished blocks to names in every batch. If I have a "Ricks Choice" somewhere, it just helps us both decide who gets what. I do initial matching in the shop when choosing blocks to turn for the day but the final 'divvy' happens after they are completed and warmed up and polished. That would be after the Zaplady touch. She then has boxes ready with names and specs and Zaps in a row in front. Then we go here, here, there, etc. The funnest part of the gig besides the money of course.
BTW everybody, thanks all for the 'activity' over the last day(and last few days). I have good job security and looks like I will need another batch of heatports next week to keep some inventory on hand. Tim, our glass guy will be happy too as things are still slow in this economy big time for many.
We will be a bit behind our desired shipping schedule of a week from order to ship but that will be short lived. Once I get the new flow down we should even be quicker on delivery because I have traded the new SSS heatport for at least 20 minutes of labor per unit. That means quicker turn around. I just turn and bore, sand, shine and assemble now. A day of labor per batch is gone now, delegated to a couple very nice guys who are very good machinists at a very good machine shop.
ob, you are correct. The more dense a wood, the cooler it will run, all else being equal. That is the generally accepted rule for log vapes.
Stay tuned. Sometimes rules change.

I own two myrtles already and they are great. One from the 40 year batch. It is interesting because it is smaller than my other two.

time to add a walnut or cherry. I am so excited to see what rich has in store for me.

I recently ordered my first zap, actually it will be my first log style vape. I cannot wait to see what Rick chooses for me (Im a fan of a bit of randomness in my life :)).

The only question I have now is carb or no carb in my tooty?

Hello all. I ordered my first Myrtlezap (first vape as well) yesterday for my birthday coming up and am really looking forward to using it. Its been a good 2 years since my last vaporizing experience and from what I remember it was awesome. Anyway, I've been lurking on this site for awhile, but now I've ordered a vaporizer I felt I should make my presence known. I'm looking forward to being a member of the FC community and being a resident of Zapville :)

Welcome to Zapland. You chose a good time to jump in. I'm sure you'll be extremely pleased with you purchase, and as you may have noticed, Rick is a pleasure to deal with. Enjoy and keep us posted.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I was wondering how effective the Myrtlezap is at aromatherapy. I just purchased a 6 pack of various essential oils and plan on using them mainly just to make my house smell good.

I keep a couple of drops in the flower, and it makes the hallway and room smell great!

Vitolo,
gonna pull the trigger on a SSS walnut. How do I apply for the FC discount/extra promotion?

Should I go with the led. It looks so pretty. . . how long does it last?

I do not have led's but apparently they last. There is no discount, but I think maybe you get a free stem or something. I have a bunch so I do not ask any longer.

Get one, you will not be sorry.

biojuggeraut, all you do for the FC "special" is write in the comments section of the order form whether or not you would like the free stem or free transformer plug kit. I can't remember whether or not Rick wants your FC user name; I don't think it's necessary, but it's always nice for him if you are going to be referencing your order here on FC.

None of my Zaps have the led either. I always thought it detracted from the beauty of the design. But, to each their own. Some really like it.

SirElton, the Zap rocks for aromatherapy. A drop or two of good quality essential oil in the aroma cup and you have great fragrance for at least an hour or two.

SirElton and all
The Aromatherapy function of Aromazap has improved with the new SSS heatport. The top protruding 'tube' which is now a machined and bored piece of 1/2" round SS stock, provides much more surface area and heat to the Aroma Flower. We offer the traditional hand crafted Aroma Flower by Zaplady as we have for more than ten years with the standard Zap kit. The tube attached to the flower that sits over the top of the heatport is much bigger in diameter than the old tube, giving the flower more stability and heat. It also will slip off the Zap very easily with no hang ups as the old version would often do. For those that decide to go with the BDG(Best Deal Going) we offer a simple non-decorative copper cup that rests on top of the heatport for the Aroma function of the Zap. The copper cup sits evenly and squarely on top of the new SSS heatport design with more surface area and SS mass heating the cup.
Our new design has improved both functions of Aromazap in our opinion.

Looks like steiner666 will be getting the first SSS equipped Zap today as it is at his post office this morning. He and everyone should note that we are continuing the installation of the top retaining ring on top of the heatport assembly. I did this because I still have hundreds of them in stock and felt the added spring tensioned clip at the top of the heatport assembly can only help insure a tight heatport in the wood. As I said earlier, the HP is one piece so there will never be any rattle within the assembly as has always been common with log vapes.
I will pick up the first 20 SSS heatports first thing Friday morning and hope to get some Zaps out by Saturday. There is always the possibility that schedule could slip a day or two. Very busy these days with lots of stuff. First of four piggees in the cooler tomorrow morning. Smoker fired up by early next week. We are supplying the entire family with pork now so the pig count doubled this year.
Best thing to do on the FC special is send me a separate Email. Members AND lurkers get the deal. No screen name needed. Reference your name and order number so I get it right. Kind of a mess around here, order-wise, so all order info you can give me will help me keep the extras going where they are supposed to go.
Edit for:
The led will last forever. We have never had just an led go bad. Wire broke or shorted maybe but the leds just go and go. We do not charge extra for the led at this time but that could change when I re-evaluate my pricing this fall in light of continuing increased raw material costs.
