bonding glass to glass?

Hi,
would JB Weld work to bond a glass 18 mm adpater to a glass piece?

JB has a long list of materials it works with but glass is not listed.

If not, what would work for glass to glass connection?

Do you mean the two tube gray epoxy type? Sure it'll work, but it will be grey.
I am sure JB Weld makes a clear two part as well, while not crystal clear, it would look slightly better.
As far as the safety, of course you are on your own.

Edit:
Of course cleanliness is next to godliness where adhesives are concerned, so make sure the joins are very, very clean.

So what are you trying to hook up? Some adhesives work better then others depending on the application. I don't like JBW in the vapor path but high temp silicone ain’t bad depending on location of the joint.

The ultimate glass to glass glue is HXTAL - it's expensive so you don't see it mentioned that often

Whatever you buy, make sure to read the MSDS first. Your health is worth much more than any glass piece. Peace.

Yes JB weld does work. I have just read a post by @Pipes about this.

I'm helping a senior whose bubbler had the mouthpiece break off. It left a little nub sticking out.
I noticed an 18 mm female joint fits over/around the nub and up against the bubbler body.

So, with an 18 mm to female to 18mm male adapter (45 degree bend), it can be bonded on and then use a 18 mm female mouthpiece. Functional but not pretty.

Vapor will have gone thru bubbler so very low temp.

Bond would be along outer edge of female joint, well to the side of vapor path.

It was a pricey piece so hate to see it discarded.

Why not try to find a local blower to repair it? It may cost more than JB Weld, but may be worth it for a nice piece.

A local blower wanted $75 and no guarantee if it cracked/ broke while attempting to fix. And the fix would
likely be ugly but functional.

So, looking at my bonding fix....

Loctite makes some stuff called Glass Glue, that dries clear and is plenty strong. I have one old chinese rig that I keep around for clumsy friends. It's been repaired 4 times with GG. Every time that piece gets dropped, a new piece of glass breaks off, but the old glued parts always stay together. Maybe I should consider putting Glass Glue over the entire piece...

I assume you need a good "contact patch" with this/ like an exact fit/ puzzle piece fit?

My use will have some gaps between the bubbler glass and a glass adapter so looking for a
"putty like consistency" that I can mold/ build a firm supporting ridge/bond.
It will look like hell but work like a bubbler from heaven ... ???

Yes, it was a close fit. The consistency is like super glue, maybe it could bridge 1/8 inch. What situation do you have that needs an adapter attached? Is it an old combustion-style stem, or what happened?

Try aquarium silicone. It's strong, safe, and cheap. Get it at any pet shop.
