Discontinued Elevape SV

PPN

Volute of Vapor
Really happy to get back here (on FC), I wasn't able to connect to my account until I try to ask for a new password...and I come back!

This vape is simply my favourite for taste and even with a poor battery life (2-3 bowls) it's my vape of choice, sometime I get issue to sleep and I can put the ESV near of my bed and take some quick hits and try to sleep again with my mouth full of the goodies taste...

In the morning too it's very usefull when you want to vape in hurry, between coffee, shower and childs and taste is still the better, even better than my MV, especially the 2-3 first hits (I use it at 310 most part of the time).

It can milk as well a small bubbler (as the orbiter) or a large can and I didn't get anymore combustion issue since I find the perfect coil position.

I need to send it for battery replacement but I'm afraid it will miss to me too much!

Can anyone advise me about issues I'm having using the Advance Control and trying to download the latest firmware?

The Advance Control says "Device not detected," even though my device is plugged in and recognized by the app, which is version 2.1.1, I believe. I do not get a choice (such as "Reset 2 Flash") other than to close the program. Any advice?

When I try to download the firmware v. 1.34, I get prompted to open a Hex file titled iPuff.production.134.hex. When I try to open that file/program, I'm told that the computer cannot, and I can use a web service to correct the problem or open a program. What am I doing wrong, or what should I do?

Thanks!

Sent my ESV (#58) back to Joe for firmware update last week and got it back yesterday. Quick turnaround!

It was tough being without it over the holiday weekend, luckily I have a couple of other vapes to use. I got reacquainted with my Flash Vape, Hammer and Air.

I usually run my ESV in the 1 to 7 range with the coil angled down. Seems to run hotter than before and I have to be more careful to avoid scorching my load even at the 1 setting. I'm experimenting with draw speed and duration to find the sweet spot again.

Hmm.... I haven't heard from Joe since I sent him my tracking #. I imagine they are cuticle-deep trying to solve it. ;)

Neither have I, but I'd rather he spent his time sorting units out and returning them. If I don't hear from him in say a week (or have it back in say two), then I'll interrupt him.....

Small world, the bell just rang, wanna guess what 'world's friendliest Postman' had for me? Yep, right here. One week flat (July 3 to today), Priority mail each way. Joe turned it around about as fast as anyone could hope for.

Hope yours isn't far behind.

Now to find where I stashed the rest of it, reassemble it and get to charging/testing......

Mine arrived today!
Let it charge up, then hooked my (cleaned) herb chamber to it, and gave it a go.
Wow. Way more responsive to draw... I can draw softer! woo hoo! I set the temp to the same as the FM, and gave that a try, and it seems similar enough that I believe my coil is situated correctly. Looks like they may have tweaked that too a bit.

The coolest part... I used some random bubble wrap and a Vector mini torch box... they sent it back, in my Vector box, with a custom cut piece of packaging foam to hold the ESV! someone there scored an origami crane, btw, as I included it when I mailed it. ;)

I'll report back as I use the ESV more and note the improvements. So far, really incredible.

Oh, and as far as Customer Service goes, getting a PM here when my package was delivered to my mailbox... THAT'S way over the top! @Ipuffusa rocks!

So one of the features Joe told me the new software brings is increased use of the total range available from the battery. In a fun way, this really is a battery not a cell even though it's 'only 3.6 Volts nominal. That's because it's really six cells in parallel (rather than series) so they share the work but provide the same voltage. In this case, they're rated at over 20 Amps as a team (we need a small fraction of that).

I have two units, my 'original' from 6 months or so back, with a S/N just past 1000, and the 'open box' one with troubles I had to send to Joe. It's from the first 100. It's battery is not only older, but sat for a while completely discharged (it never worked right, didn't draw properly, came to me 'dead flat').

The first battery (the older one) went from about 700mAh to 1000. The newer one went from about 800mAh to 1100. Serious gains, worth updating the software to get IMO. If you were getting say 50 'puffs' per charge, you'll get over 70.

The software change also removes the 'charge while using' feature since guys were running their ESV down to zero then plugging it in and vaping on. This hammered the battery into early death against the protection circuit. Human nature and all, but a battery killer.

A couple of others and I have found it a bit awkward to upgrade, but IMO it's worth while......your battery will thank you for it.

Regards to all.

Agreed @OF.
I absolutely love the new update.
I never really had any problems with the original version but I do notice a huge gain in battery life as you said with the new update.
I am easily getting 20 more draws per charge! That's a huge improvement!
Well done Joe, well done!

I am having trouble, I think, getting the new app. There are two websites. One for Elevape and one for Ipuffitusa. Would someone post the link to the newest app. The one I downloaded looks like the old one and not the new picture....

Thanks. Great forum. Great vape....and, BTW, did not know about the new items from Ipuffitusa!

@Gardenerjeff The newest app is 1.34 so just look for that.

I went to the site and downloadd but I am a Mac user. The program can't be opened (at least by me) and the manual is not for the mac version.

Teaming,

jeff

There is no manual for the app. The manual is for the firmware upgrade. To do the upgrade you need the latest app to get started. I've never tried the Mac versions (tool of the devil you know.....), but it must work at some level, lots of guys are using it. I note the latest app takes OS 10.7 (or better), perhaps that's the problem?

You might want to PM Joe, he's a good sort, I bet if you mail him your power section he'll upgrade the firmware?

I think I've got a dead cell as mine charges from 0 to 100 in about an hour and twenty minutes at 1A. Plus of course it dies rather quickly. Has anyone had any luck reviving the battery in anyway? A rebalance perhaps?

That sounds pretty normal to me. The numbers 'line up'. It's a battery (six cells in parallel) rated at 1200mAh. 1.3 hours at 1 Amp is 1300mAh.....what did you expect? Certainly not any more?

If you look about 9 posts above (1910) you'll see I found actual mAh numbers for recharging my two units of 1000 and 1100mAh. Yours sounds very much like that?

You can send it in for testing if you want I guess, but from what you've said it's perfectly correct. The battery is sealed, if defective must be replaced. There is no 'rebalance' for cells in parallel, that's a technique for cells in series.

I expect it to take closer to an hour and forty minutes to charge due to losses resulting from inefficiency. No 1a charger actually drivers 1a to the until being charged.

Either way, battery life is around 30 to 40 draws, which seems low to me. How many are you getting from a full charge?

What percent of the total did you expect ESV to use? Surely not the full 100%. Near as I can tell it was a typical 60 to 70% before the upgrade, which now puts it in the 80 to 90% range.

You're also mistaken I think in your opinion of "inefficiency" as you're not considering voltage. The unit draws about five Watts (one Amp times 5 Volts) and puts an average of say 4 Watts (same Amp only at four Volts) into the battery. An apparent 80% efficiency? In practice it is, I think, a linear regulator in the charge circuit, a series circuit with the battery, every electron in (current) flows through the battery and charges. 1000mAh in is 1000mAh of charging. One to one.

I'm sorry, I don't count every hit (did you accurately? Really?), nor do I think that's anything close to a useful measure since each draw is different and certainly you and I don't draw alike on average. I have no doubt many guys can flatten the same battery in less draws than I do.

I think your battery is quite normal based on your description above, at least under my understanding of how electricity works. More over I see basically the same numbers you do? Once again, rather than guesses and bad assumptions you might want to send it to Joe for testing if you don't believe me?

BTW, my 'old' unit (S/N under 100) charges at .5 Amps (takes twice as long but reaches the same mAh numbers on my integrating current meter), something that seems to have been changed in hardware?

Just counted, 12 draws brought it from fully charged (95% on the app) to 50%. Doesn't seem to jibe with other reports of good battery life posted here. More like PPN's dodgy battery. Battery life aside, the thing works a charm.

Think what you want. 'Hits per charge' is extremely subjective. 'Minutes per charge' much less so but not all that useful either. Each guy has his box set differently in many ways (coil position, heat setting, screen conditions, load size/packing and so on). Then add that folks take different size hits and I think it's reasonable to expect 3 or 4 to one spreads in 'hit counts'? 2 or 3 to one using the same exact vape?

The power numbers you report 'make sense'. If you're putting the correct volume of gas in your car but not happy with the MPG number it's not the fault of the gas tank.

You're adding about four Watt-Hours it seems and consuming them making heat/vapor? The battery is discharged when you end and charges normally? That power went somewhere, the battery didn't 'eat it'. That "working like a charm" comes from the battery......the battery seems fine, perhaps the definition of 'charm' is off? That is the charm is just as sweet but doesn't last as long as you think it should.

If you were putting say 600mAh, or 500, from top to bottom to recharge, then I'd say you might have a weak battery. Not when you're putting in the official charge.

I know you don't want to hear 'I don't think you have a problem', but I honestly don't think you do. Once again, if you disagree or still feel it's lame, let Joe test if for you?

Good luck, but IMO it sounds like you won't be happy until this is resolved?

It's not that the battery doesn't last as long as 'I think it should' as a random metric, but rather that it doesn't seem to last nearly as long as everyone else with a good battery is reporting, leading me to believe that there is an issue with it.

It's just come from a factory service, although I don't think they checked the battery, but coil position etc should be spot on.

At this point I don't really want to send it in again, thus that's why I was posting here looking for battery info. Might just give Joe a call....
