Any reason to vape if you are cigarette smoker?

Vaping bud tastes much better than smoking it. You can actually taste the weed. First thing I noticed when I switched. Now that I'm used to great tasting bud the thing that keeps me vaping is the much more awesome high I get. It's just downright more efficient.

I hear that. I had a few puffs off a joint 2 days ago. It was gross. I remember as a teenager I use to like the taste of kush from a joint. Now I can't stand the taste at all. Tastes so much better.

Smoking is vaping at high temperatures

I too think this is a deceptively incorrect statement. Even to the point of being glib?

In fact smoking is vaporizing but with a bunch of dangerous junk thrown in. Useless junk when it comes to getting high? The THC is evaporated out of the herb by the hot air, same as it would with any other source of hot air. The rub comes from the fire and the chemical reactions it causes that don't happen when vaping at controlled temperatures.

IMO smoking tobacco negates the health advantages of vaping your herb. But as others point out there are worthwhile cost savings and ability to 'tailor' the cannabinoid spectrum are still worthwhile advantages to promote.

OTOH, as long as they are blazing (tobacco) the mental link between smoking and getting high will persist. Most of us break this link easily by 'putting down blazing' for a bit, not going to happen here. Your friends might not get the full benefit from vaping since their subconscious will still crave the nasty parts of the smoking experience.

Tough sell, good luck with it.

I once thought I could never live my life without smoking. (Peter Pan Syndrome..never grow up!) My step one was to stop smoking big brands and switched to pure tobacco. Big brands put accelerants and other lovely chemicals to keep you hooked on more than just nicotine. So try to get your buddy to change brands, it might put him closer to quitting.

Sorry sir, but I have to strongly disagree with that statement. And the effects to your lungs from combusting tobacco is different from combusting weed or other plant material. Tobacco clogs and fills up the lungs with heavy tar. While MJ opens up the lungs and is somewhat of an expectorant. That's is why blunts are so nasty. Also, things like spearmint and eucalyptus have other "medicinal" effects for breathing. And there is more hard science on that whole subject in the future.

Plus there are some smart FC-ers here who have delved even deeper on the subject. And some of us are pretty passionate on the whole matter. Fortunately, there is plenty of source material to open up to here. So Shop smart...Shop S-MART. Got it?

Vaporizing is more like cooking out the water and producing water droplets (vapor). Smoking is burning the plant material and produces Carbon and a range of carcinogens. This is also why the effects of smoking-combusting is so immediate. Plus cigarettes are DESIGNED to combust with the most immediate impact. That's why you read about tobacco manufacturers adding things like chocolate and other garbage to add to that initial heart racing rush. This is biggest hurdle to overcome when switching from combusting to vaporizing IMHO tobacco or otherwise. But especially tobacco for a host of reasons.

Plain unadulterated Tobacco is harsh. That is why American Spirits cigs are scratchy compared to say Newports. Using a dry herb vaporizer would circumvent the harshness with plain tobacco. Just that first draw won't have that initial impact as say a first drag off a Marlboro Red.

Yes. There is a reason to vape if you are a cigarette smoker. If you understand the what and why, then you have a larger reason to make the full crossover too the real "FLAVOR COUNTRY" of vaporising.

My point is that the chemical process of vaporization, i.e. converting non psychoactive thca to psychoactive thc, happens whether you use combustion at high temps or vaporization at lower temps. Of course theres a lot of extra "baggage" when you smoke. Smoking exceeds the temperature required to make the cannabinoids accessible. Thats why we choose to use a vaporizer.

I've got a good friend who is a heavy smoker(tobacco/mj) both. When I take my vaporizers over and let him try them he can't stand the taste. As a matter of fact he claims he can taste the bud flavor better when he combusts. I told him to put my vape down he's way to high to comprehend up from down. Smokers;can't live with them but you sure as hell can without.

I see no correlation between smoking tobacco and the effects of vaping herb (none, zero, zilch). I mean maybe if you suffer from copd but beyond that I can't see why smoking cigs would change a thing when I vape a bowl of pure Marijuana as it doesn't change anything for me and people I know and vape with.
(but I never smoke tobacco while I vape either)

Yes, your friend should vape their weed. It might open them up to vaping tobacco or an ecig.

Any time you can get away with not inhaling SMOKE and use less weed at the same time is good, particularly if you are already at risk being a cig smoker. My first vape paid for itself in about 6 months and I am a very light user. AFAIK smoking pot still creates poly aromatic hydrocarbons, tar, soot, etc, and is not good for you.

They could always get another $10 stem to try vaping tobacco in instead of smoking, but make sure he knows it is 5-10X as strong as smoking, have read here mostly around 1/5th. Get some great quality loose tobacco or something and their tobacco budget will drop down to 1/4 or so compared to cigarettes, from what I have read. Even switching to ultra high quality tobacco.

After reading Snappo has been vaping pipe tobacco, I think I am gonna try it out myself. Getting kinda bored with ecig stuff personally. But it's a hell of a lot nicer than smoking, that is for damn sure.

Hell, you could buy an extra stem for one of your vapes, and every time he wants to smoke weed, turn down his joint. Nobody really likes to smoke a joint alone in front of a friend. That's what finally got my buddies into liking vaporizers. So with an extra stem and some good tobacco, after you vape the herb and he has a good buzz on and wants to smoke a cig, fill a stem with some good tobacco and say you want to try it. Then hand it to him. I think that would be a good step between a cig and an ecig. Still using tobacco, but no smoke.

Cigs make me feel sick. But I can use my ecig and snus all I want without feeling sick so it must be something other than the nicotine. I used to love smoking. But it is dirty, nasty, sticks to your clothing, cough up gray phlegm in the morning, and be a social pariah.

Don't over complicate things, it's simple. Girls dig vaporists, do what you want.

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
Smoking is vaping at high temperatures

I don't want to pick apart what you are saying. It is true that some of us are seeking more clarity on this matter. So your first statement might sound a bit reductive (unintentionally) to some FC-ers ears. However in your defense, I might start to say to somebody, who is a full time cigarette smoker that has no prior knowledge of vaping "Smoking is just like vaping at a higher temperatures. Vaping is also less harsh. You might like to try this alternative." :) In that context, your statement has bearing and could have some influence in the matter. You'd be trying to reach someone who has no understanding and therefore not be intentionally misleading them. Essentially, "Know your audience." So we are good on all that, right?

IMHO, Conduction and convection heat affect the materials differently enough on their own for me to distinguish between the two. Much less making the distinction between that and combustion/smoking. Meanwhile, I will continue to dig deeper for my own curiosity. There is some vape charts that tell what active ingredients are released at what temps for starters.

But getting back to the OP, Yes there is a reason to vape if you are already a cigarette smoker. I would try to avoid consuming both too close together because that does cause greater damage combined. Much like smoking both. But yea, he should try it because "Smoking is just like vaping only at higher temperatures. Vaping is also less harsh....."
:peace:

Combustion and vaporizing both release the actives in cannabis through a heating process. The difference is in degree. With vaporizers the temperatures are lower and can be controlled. With smoking, the temperatures are hundreds of degrees hotter and cannot be controlled by the user. But the premise is similar: add heat, release actives. BTW, some vaporizers are capable of combustion.

I am a smoker and a vapor , Of course smoking is terrible for me & I'd like to quit when i am ready, but at least i took 1 step in the right direction and started vaping. It's been over a year now and i have not combusted besides my bad cigarette habit. There are many benefits to vaping. Oh and i love the taste of vaping vs smoking , when smoking you only really get that great taste when lighting the green but vaping has really won me over in the flavor department , it just lasts much longer .
