I searched OF's responses about the constant temp of the oven, while the electronics getting hotter (as well as battery), being the issue. Not worth it... does anyone notice a loss of function one way or the other?

It's a blue blue afternoon

Hey guys, been a while i posted and i thought id share my experience with you guys and see what you think. i little stoned so sorry in advance if this is a long post lol.

ordered 2 airs in december 2014 and been lovin it since. About a month ago it started to seem like my bowls werent even lasting the full 10 minute sessions, then over the next few days i noticed this regardless of what strain i was using. also started noticing that my herb was more golden brown like there definitely was something left in there. but i was still getting high so i didnt think anything of it. then i smoked on my brothers air one night and damn was if a whole nother monster lol. and i thought my clouds were decent hahah. sent an email to randy who as usual went out of his way to troubleshoot it for me even tho i got it directly from arizer(even paid for 2day shipping both ways). sent it out to him, he did a reset and then it seemed to hit a lot better but nothing compared to my brothers. randy couldnt help more since i didnt get it from him.

On to Arizer, had to pay $15 to send to canada snail mail. they diagnose it as an "unrepairable circuitry issue" and have just issued a replacement unit. so thats awesome.

i got both airs at the same time and my brother uses it WAAAAYY more than i do but i kept mine in the skin for the past 2-3 months. leaves you with two things, either mine just fucked up randomly or the skin caused it. i think the maybe the skin caused the circuitry issue but arizer says the skins are safe. only makes sense to me sense the only variable was the skin and i know for sure he uses his air like 2-3 times more than i did lol.

on a side note, i bought a firefly for use in the interim. Great little device once you figure it out. hated that learning curve like no fuckin other. surprisingly i figured it out last night right after arizer sent me the email saying that they issued a replacement lmao.

I bought a blue skin for my Air when I originally received my unit but only used it a few days. I liked the looks of the unit naked. It's an awesome looking portable. It's nice to have choices. This is a great portable and very stealth.

Planetvape carries several different stems if you want something besides the stock stems. Also if you want to given a wooden stem a try, @Ed's TnT makes some unique pieces that don't break.

I've been using the Air on my road trip and nobody has given it a second glance.

I like the air without skin too. Feels much slimmer and more pocket friendly (even though the case is very thin must just be my perception).
I like the feel of it without the skin.... the skin, like a cell phone case that's "rubbery", ads so much friction, doesn't slide in and out of pocket or belt clip easily. I like the idea of the protection it gives if I drop it while out, but between the extra heat and sponginess making it hard to slide, I really like it better without the case. The silver matches my car interior exactly (black and silver console it disappears into). The new one I ordered is black, I can't imagine anything more stealth than that.

Off to Planetvape to browse stems, planning my future SAS purchase. Always gotta have something coming in the mail :mental:.
Another great think about the AA, gadgets are cheap. Can't wait for the black on black option... (stem and AA)

@CarolKing you were a big part of my decision here. I know how much you respect Arizer, and I'm glad I didn't give it before I got it right

PLANETVAPE
So many choices, they are all about the PVHE. I have no idea what's up with that, but like to try. Having a hard time finding black stems. Fun searching.

JUST REALIZED I'M AN IDIOT
I've been spelling Arizer wrong and just realized it. Damn, I rely on spell check too much. Thanks for not embarrassing me with pointing it out.

Giving this a go... a bottom screen? Anyone else obsessed with keeping oven clean?

Hey Everyone,

I've been using the Air regularly for five months and would like to share some of my personal tips and experience for using the device. I find the all glass stem without the plastic tip to be the most satisfying. I find it works best when your lips are pressed against the opening as opposed to wrapping your whole mouth around it.

1. Grind - The weed gets baked more consistently than it would if it was just a solid chunk or chunks. The taste is more satisfying for longer. The device does do well with solid pieces, but in my experience it's not ideal.

2. Screens - Screens are a must if you are using ground up weed. When using a grinder, the material gets small enough to fit through holes of the stem that leads from the bowl and into your mouth. Use stainless-steel pipe screens. Get them slightly bigger than your stem's bowl. Do not trim them. Bend the outer edges until it's roughly the size of the bowl and stuff it in there (bended side toward the holes of the bowl) with the included packing tool. Makes sure it's in there tight and won't easily fall out.

We're not done yet. Take another screen and this time trim it slightly smaller than the size of the bowl. This screen will prevent your weed from full, direct contact with the heat of the oven. You'll be creating a "sandwich" in your bowl, with the two screens being your bread.

If you don't use screens you're going to have a bad time. Even with solid material, a screen is recommended for preventing full direct contact with the oven.

3. Temperature - This is tricky. I've vaporized roughly half a pound in this device so far. Different strains. I've found that the strain doesn't matter much when using my method.

My method:
1. Insert a loaded stem into your Air.
2. Select the "Green" setting and wait until it reaches temperature.
3. Take a soft, slow but quick pull to draw the vapor upward.
4. Wait 10-15 seconds to let the vapor build up and draw. When you draw make sure it's soft and slow.
5. Now after savoring that draw go ahead and take another. You know you want to.
6. Here's where it gets blasphemous, according to this thread. Set your temperature DOWN to pink. Continue to take hits until the device automatically shuts off.
7. Remove the stem. Using the scraper end of the packing tool, remove the screen and discard the top level of weed that was closest to the bottom of the oven. Stir and mix the remaining weed in the bowl slightly. Re-insert trimmed screen.
8. Insert your stem into the Air and set the temperature to green again. Taking a couple of soft, slow draws and setting the temperature back to pink again. When the vapor weakens set it back up to green again. Keep getting nicely toasted until the machine shuts off again.
9. Leave your stem in and set the device to green. Keep hitting it until there's no more vapor left.
10. Empty the contents of the stem while its hot to keep stems and screens cleaner, longer.

I know it may seem like a a lot of work, but I've gotten used to it. This method will:
a.) Make your weed last longer while expelling decent, thick clouds.
b.) Negate any unwanted awful taste by not continually roasting your weed at high temperatures (green, yellow and red.)

If you're looking for a quick high. Just crank it up to green and keep going. Set it and keep it at yellow for an even faster session. Red will just leave you with a "who farted?" look on your face. The denser the bud, the more heat it can withstand.

4. Battery - I use this device 5-10 times a day. One battery will last roughly 1.5 long sessions or 2-4 short sessions. Extra batteries are essential if you want to use this device more than twice a day away from home. I only use OEM batteries so I can't speak for the performance of aftermarket ones.

5. Cleaning - After a session while the stem is still warm, remove screens and scrape whatever you can off the glass stem. Fill the tube with alcohol and shake it up for a minute or two. Empty alcohol and scrape residue off under water. Rinse and scrape until clean. There are residue solutions on the market but alcohol works well and it's more cost-effective considering its many other uses.

Screens can be re-used by soaking them in alcohol for a couple of hours.

The oven can be cleaned using some alcohol and a cotton ball. Make sure to run the device without anything in it to burn away anything left behind.

I know some of this information has been mentioned already but some has not. Just sharing my personal experience with the device.

A big thanks to everyone who has added anything constructive to this thread. I've read and taken in most of it.

edit: sorry for the grammatical errors. not really much of a writer.

If you put two screens not one, you not even need to clean the oven beacuse it keeps clean ;)

its like a sandwich, the material you put in is between the 2 screens.

@Bravesst
I use the same screens "upside" and "downside", standard solo/air screens. But i will buy some Iolite vaporizer screens because as it seems, they are the same size and those screens are very durable, and wellmade. :) standard solo/air screens are not the best, but the size is perfect to sandwich it. I tried domed screens to, but is it too harsh for my liking, i prefer flat screen sandwich hehe

But to clean i think some iso in a cotton should work, and if its really dirty iso+cotton and before clean it preheat your oven first.

Not sure if it's my device, but pics not showin' :bang: link works
You need to click the picture in imgur so that the URL ends in .jpg (or .png) if you want to post the pictures using the little toolbar thing. Alternately you can copy the BBC code and paste it as text and the server will show it as normal without needing to do anything else. Nice stem

does anyone know if the i4 charger has some sort of temperature-protection? just tried to charge some cells for my air, the charger does turn on like usual(blue light), but when I put in the cells the lights above them don't turn on. but we do have a heatwave here, the weather is already dominating the news and conversations for a few days. so could the temperature be the cause of the cells not charging, or is the charger broken?

It might, I don't know, but usually such protections give an indication? I'd expect a flashing something? FWIW normally such protections are quite high, 50 to 70C typically?

You can easily test this idea, put the charger and batteries in the refrigerator for a while and try again?

This is from an i4, and mentions temp monitoring, I think they class 40°c as too hot

Thanks. Who knows what that means for sure, but I agree it's possible/likely. I still recommend a test. Fast and conclusive (hopefully). Much faster and more conclusive than educated guesses. Standard troubleshooting drill, change one factor (in this case heat) and see if the fault follows. Easier than finding another car to try it in (usually) which might also introduce a change in temperature?

The OP, I think, is interested in 'how to I avoid this'. He just wants his batteries charged and wants to be able to depend on that charger to do it? Part of that is, I think, this is a car charger as an afterthought. The put a 12 Volt jack on as a cheap feature? It can run hot even in a cool room, 'small car parked in a Texas Mall parking lot on the Fourth of July' hot is hard to design for......

If the specific culprit is needed, chill either batteries or charger and test again?

Another option is, of course, a USB cord and USB auto charger. Neither of which is known to have such temperature related problems? The vape and charger are both designed to deal with the heat in this case.

The way I read it was that the op wanted to know if the nitecore had temp cutoff and to find out if it is heat related or a broken charger, and I agree cooling the battery's and charger is the way to go forward, but you lost me with the car part :hmm: I agree it probably was an afterthought but I don't think the op mentioned charging 'in car' unless I missed it
