Vaporizing throat irritation

Hi All!

Im new to this forum and also to vaporization!
I wonder if any of you have specific information about throat irritation.
It never happened to me smoking a blunt (as much as I remember)
and from vapors (which I thought will be inhaled much softer) I get some irritation and coughing.
what is the cause to it? is it the THC? the terpens? the specific strain?
I will be happy for any new information so I will be able to avoid it in the future...
Thanks!!

I have noticed this too. I can make it happen basically whenever I want. If your throat isn't lubricated and if you inhale with your throat, the vapor hits the back of your throat and causes irritation. You can put your tongue in front of the path of the vapor and it helps from that direct throat hit. Also try hitting more with your lungs if that makes sense. Just figure out how to inhale so it doesn't smack the back of your throat. Like I said though, keep your throat lubricated, drink some water, and dont let the vapor stab your throat haha. Get back to me, lemme know whatsup.

Thanks I will definitely try! I am really interested to learn about the reason it happens. what exactly in the vapors cause it to irritate the throat in oppose to smoking... Do you think it depends in the strain terpenoid profile or levels of THC?

Dry, hot air is usually the culprit....nothing more complicated than that.

Take smaller, cooler (lower temp) hits and see if that helps.

Yup, smaller hits, lower temps, using water tools, drinking while vaping all help. Sometimes a different vape might be the answer, or something as simple as screen position, or the variety or condition of herb your vaping. Lots of variables and like anything else, practice helps.

As a new vaporist, I was getting lots of "dry" "hot" throat... it's lac of moisture. I personally, learned how to draw differently, allowing more moisture in, not allow mouth to dry (sipping a cold drink helps a lot). It's technique and maybe the moisture level of your herb. Do you dry out after grinding?

I seem to be affected more strongly by this in recent months, despite vaporizing since 2008. I use a D020 bubbler, have tried different inhalation techniques (the tongue suggestion sorta works the best), but often times just can't get a good session without multiple bouts of coughing and then scratchiness/soreness in my gullet. My next thought is to try rehydrating some herb just to see if that ameliorates the experience, but having hot water vapor course along my throat doesn't really sound like an improvement.

Oh, I haven't tried smaller hits, that might be a good direction to explore. Still, just holding in a hit results in some strong throat/lung tickle and then more coughing...I like to pretend that it means my lungs/throat are healthy and still have sensitivity because the cilia aren't dead but who knows if that is even closely accurate
