I'm out of vapes right now so I tried staying away from combusting, using and old solo stem (straight).
I fill the stem as usual and top it off with a screen and give it a tight fit. It's mui importante that the load does't fall out if you put the stem upside down.
Now I hold the stem like in a solo and instead of heating it from below with the solo, I am heating it with a lighter. Make sure to stay away from the flame to avoid combustion. If you'd put your hand over the flame, you will notic that there's a point where it's bearable, so the temperature we are looking for should be just a pinch more near to the flame. Hold the stem into the heat above the flame and wait for vapour to rise up. Turn off the lighter and inhale, I took two little hits and am still feeling if after 2 hours (after a 40hour t-break). Def better than any combusting.

ordered a solo from aroma-tek for 130 for vacation, been putting it through its paces since. i like the curved stem and I've been starting at 4 and slowly increasing to 7 to finish
very amazed with this little thing. even though it does not have the same flavor as pure convection (other vape is dbv) you would never believe it was a mostly conduction vape. i also like the conduction aspects because it makes it possible to vape the entire bowl without stirring
cutting screens is kind of a hassle but after a few uses they seem to stay in much better. the combination of the built in screen and mesh screen keeps the herbs out of your mouth very well. I'm very impressed with the unit and it is crazy to carry something around that's just as powerful as a desktop vape with no cord.
im in the outer banks and i usually am in the water the entire time but there are so many shark attacks that nobody is swimming. sounds like solo stems on the beach all day

I just go at my stems with a pick of some sort, unbent paper clip, wooden kebab skewer, etc. if you want to use solvents and reclaim I recommend high strength rubbing alcohol (with no additives!!) or a clear unflavored drinkable alcohol like vodka or ever clear. The reclaim will dissolve into the solvent and then you can pour out into a flat dish and wait for it to evaporate before collecting with a razor. Personally I just stick to cleaning it out with a skewer if I want to use it, with solvents you can filter out particulate matter and such but that takes time and it's my weed and I want it now!
I may want a Solo (prices are awesome).... Advantages over the Arizer Air? I know about the battery life, but just how long is it really? Also, performance, efficiency vs Air, is it better, worse, just different? Draw resistance (which I don't have much problem with)? Use with glass vs AA? People say it's "smaller than it looks online". Is that true?
I'm sure it's all been answered, but for anyone who has both, I'd love to hear you chime in.

i don't have an air but i just bought my solo so i researched all of this stuff
- both use the exact same heating chamber (i think) so operation and herb efficiency are very similar
- solo has roughly twice the battery life - its built in battery pack is 2x 18650s, while the air runs on a single replaceable 18650
- i have heard people say different things about which draws easier, stems do have more wiggle room in the solo which lets you control the draw
- revised o-ring system means tighter stem fits on the air
- the solo is smaller than it looks in pictures and is much more solid than you'd expect
- the air gets stealth points for looking most like an ecig
- air heats slightly faster (after using my vape for awhile the difference seems negligible)
- outer shell of the air can get warm during use

Bravesst, if you get a solo after you used a mighty, I'd suggest you get the mouthpiece of the air with its smaller mouthpiece. After using mighty for some months I thought the solo stem felt way too huge in diameter.
Yeah, I own a volcano, puffit-x, mighty and 2012 solo but they're all out of my reach right now. /mighty in repair, all other 5 traffic hours away.
I do think you are in dire need of a new vape..
Dont know how long your stems will last before they chip?

Was tired of weed bits in my mouth and a dirty stem all the time. The coarse weave of the screen and dome faced up should keep the screen from clogging much. Nice easy draw and only $9.99 for 10.
Been enjoying more fresh AC/DC from my garden.

The Solo is very similar to the the Air except it is larger around. It's about the size of a can of Red Bull. The battery life is slightly over 2 hours with a new unit. The battery life does degrade over time. My Solo is a little over a year and I have about an hour of battery life. The price of the Solo is around $140 - $150. I've seen them $250 at the head shops and on some online stores. You need to make sure you are dealing with a reputable online store. I go a lot with Puffiup or Planetvape but any of the online stores on FC will be a good company to do business with.
If you have either the Air or the Solo you've got a reliable vaporizer. You will get great flavor with either vape IMO. There is no need to have both unless you want both. The Air is more stealth because of the size. I like the feel of the Solo, holding it in my hands. I use the Solo more than the Air.
Lately been using the Air more because of the stealthiness while out and about on vacation. I had to celebrate legal cannabis in my sister state of Oregon. Now it's California's turn in 2016.

been using those same screens for a while now, work great once you get a good fit pretty much no bits get through
leaves us with sweet sweet honey stems
As always, thank you for the clear, concise answer. I have my second AA on the way (got a great deal on it from Puffitup), and I see sticksstones has a Solo at $150. The extra battery life, and greater temp control seems cool, but if it's that much like an Air, I've already got 2. I guess, sooner or later, it will be a log. Got a place picked out.
So you are in CA... so jealous of WA, OR, CA, CO, NV. I'm in NY state, and it's supposedly legal for medical use... not really sure how to get a prescription, but I heard of a dispensary opening in Brooklyn (hipster land now, where I grew up). I've got to do some research on where NY is at exactly, but they are talking about turning some of the Long Island (where I live) wineries into cannabis farms. One can only hope, I'll be headed out east (Montauk) on a regular basis... I'm thinking of getting a Solo and I'm in the UK.
I can get one from a UK retailer for around $220 or from a US retailer on ebay at $155 with shipping.
Will it be ok if I take the cheaper US deal? I'm wonderig if warranty returns are going to be a problem.
Also, should I be expecting to receive the 2014 M1D model which allows use while charging with improved airflow?

The only issue you'll have is any customs fees and and shipping back to the states if you need to for warranty.
You'll get "plug&play" but it's best to not charge while using.
The PVHES is too much airflow with the newer solo's imo, the stock ones (and wood) are my favorite, but your mileage may vary.

So if I get the Solo from an overseas supplier for a much better price, I should hope it works great since warranty returns will be expensive.
Hmmm... difficult decision.
£133 for the Solo is a good price. But in the US you can get the Solo for £83.
My point is that a £50 saving is an appreciable sum.
In other words, you can buy a Solo and Flowermate vaporiser in the US for the same price as one Solo in the UK.
Import duty and vat is not always a good thing.

Tough call. When you factor in the probability of a problem you could easily be 'money ahead' planning on throwing away a defective unit (even in warranty) and buying another. Say, for instance they were only 50% reliable (an extremely conservative number IMO, I'm sure it's well over 95% (less than 5% returns)) you're looking at £133 against £83 + (£83/2) for £124.5. At 5% it's only £83/20 or £4.15 extra to 'self insure'. £84.15 total. IMO a realistic gamble to consider?
And you get a new unit for replacement and get it much faster. And that doesn't factor in postage back to the US?
Think of the bud you can get with the left over money........
