US Women looked tough again last night! On to the next round!
The defense looked tough. The offense looked horrendous IMHO terrible entry passes (albeit turf), terrible set pieces (except when Abbie finally awoke, Pino nailed that one), though Nigeria packed the box time after time on d, but they made the best passes and leads when managing breakaways. Team USA needs to play better together if they want to make a run. Holliday didn't impress after she did great in the first two. Sydney should be a full time starter from here on out, her presence on the sides is fierce, I have been thoroughly impressed with that woman! Defense - Johnston (easily player of the match), Saurbraun, 22 (lol forgot her name, though she has probably been the most solid player for us so far out of first 3 games and captain too IIRC) and Solo are the reason we won that game. Pino or Morgan and Abbie up front for next match with Leroix in for Heath is my hope. Go USA!!!

Nice assessment, @SSVUN~YAH.

Defense was solid for the most part and won them the game. The speed of some of those Nigerian forwards opened up some chances early but by the second half they seemed to get it figured out. Once they scored, they changed their offensive strategy; instead of deliberate marches down the field they went for longer balls to the forwards to see what they could spring open. Good defensive strategy in my opinion. A tie got them in, so at 1-0, they were pretty safe for moving on.

They better get better at the set pieces though. Took too long to figure out that getting the ball high to the far post was the way to attack on corners. Won't have so many opportunities with tougher opponents.

Gotta keep their foot on the pedal......#nomercy
USA!!!!

Totally agree. After that 4th goal, U.S. started to lay back. They can't do that and I have no doubt that is exactly what they're being told in the locker room. They gotta come out in the second half exactly like they started the first half......full bore holding nothing back.

That 4th goal...............54 yards. :uhoh:

I missed the first 23 minutes 'cause my bartender was an idiot. :disgust: Imagine my surprise when I saw 4-0 when the tv finally got tuned in. I was half shocked, half elated, and my third half was pissed off for missing four fucking goals. Yes, I have three halves.

USA!!!!!!! :D

:peace:

This was the first WWC I truly followed. And I'm so happy I tuned in.
The athletecism, the competition, the dedication, the precision, the fitness, the obsession, the sacrifice and everything else. These are special human beings!

… Nice call!

Well Japan showed they could score from more than just the spot tonight. Those two goals would have beaten anyone else probably ;)

Thank goodness for the Gold Cup. It will help fill the void after the World Cup.

US - Honduras was an interesting watch. The hondureños are fast! Wore out the big slow americanos pretty quick. Good thing some of those americanos are tall, too.

But what? Trinidad & Tobago!
