When you say bowl, how does that compare to an mflb trench? I can get a decent high off of a trench a couple of times. Just wondering if that is equal to one bowl on the GH or a few. If one or two, then battery life will be great for me. I know this is very subjective though.
By "bowl" I mean the grasshopper's bowl, the amount I've been using is just a pinch a tiny little pinch it's pretty amazing.

As for the 1:26, that was just me using it how I felt but obviously the battery wasn't running the entire time, for one it has an auto shut off anyway.

I used it how I wanted an hour and a half later I had to change the battery. That's all

Ok so I got a response from trevor. A few fun things you guys may want to know. The silicon tip is alcohol safe. Mine is begining to get dirty and I was wondering if i could cleant it like the front end and he said it is safe. He hasn't heard of the device getting caught in a loop before and asked me to record a cellphone video if it happens again and assured me if something was wrong in any way they would get me a new one immediately. Lastly the thing that makes all my idle off issues makes since. He told me there is a 1.5 second cool off period immediately after an idle shut off to protect the battery.

Now I am really struggling to find a negative. Really I am. The only one is vapor heat without water above a 4. But this is A subjective and B understandable with thr hoppers short vapor path. I have about 4 main ways of using the hopper now and they all vary but have the same general effects.

1. Small pinch. If I am out and about like hiking biking skating or somewhere not very populated I like 3.2-3.4 without silicone tip. The silicon piece isnt needed because I only need to take a rip or two and then tuck it away.

2. Small pinch. If I am home I generally only use my glass piece not because the vapor is always super harsh but i usually cant handle much over 3.7 without water. That doesn't mean the vapor at 3.7 is at all inefective it isnt. But when i put that bad boy to 4.2 4.4. Through a bubbler. I get fat rips that I can comfortably inhale and hold and I can just sit it aside.

3. Fully packed. If I am with friends. Same as above but with a packed oven. Sometimes if there is 4 or more and it is in a constant rotation even clicking it off and on everytime the unit itself gets a bit hot. But if everyone gets a fat rip it may be almost out when it comes around but everyone should definately feel something off a full pack. I know me and 6 people shared 3 bowls and we were fantastic.

4. Fully packed. If I am somewhere fairly populated I will not use the tip and have the temp at 2 to start and work it up to a 3 tops. I take a rip and wait a few as not to look weird then take another few as needed. The vapor is thin stealthy and smooth. It is also unfair how tasty it is at these temps. Definately produces odor. Like any vape.

All in all the versatility of this thing makes it stand up to alot of desktops I have used. Including the volcano. Even with the heat which is literally my only complaint. The grasshopper is like putting your face over the volcano output. I use less than my volcano did and get as far as a minimum pack on my volcano got me. Now I will say to go above a certain temp I need water but that is not a big deal in my opinion because most desktops you have to be near an outlet to use anyway.

The desktops I have used for those curious are DBV SSV Vapexhale cloud herbalaireh2.2 high output zephyr ion volcano lsv extreme q.

Being thinking about the loading queries/ideas and had a thought that compliments the stealth aspect of the GH. Nice fast no fuss re-loads.

I don't know what effect it would have on taste and I imagine those with no rolling skills might struggle to get it right, but as far as easy loading of the oven goes. How about rolling a joint to the inside diameter of the oven and cutting it into nice little oven log lengths? It would certainly make for faster, stealthier no mess reloads on the fly ;)

I imagine a little stash full of pre-cut different lengths logs (shorts for the 'little pinch' folk and a few bigger logs for a little crowd taming) would be pretty handy for day to day challenges.

Problem is the vaporizer uses convection to transfer heat - the rolling paper doesn't let air flow through it easily, therefor your GH performance will suffer dramatically.

However, you do have a good idea, I think back to the civil war era gunpowder paper cartridges. Fill paper with pre-measured quantities of herb in tiny twisted paper containers. Rip open one end, drop contents into GH, and dispose of paper.

I don't think that your observation regarding the paper blocking the airflow is correct.

If you look at the original indego video, it clearly shows the heat exchanger heats the oven by allowing the air to draw through the oven chamber end to end rather than through the sides.

Fast forward to 2:08 to see the oven graphics.

So as long as the log is inserted correctly (length wise rather than sideways), it would appear that no airflow blockage would occur. As long as the log is longer than it is wide, it will only go in the correct way around.

It might block if you close your eyes and fold it over then force it in. I was thinking more along the lines of rolling them to a size that allows them to drop in sweet (with minimal clearance - say 0.25-0.33mm max all around). Though, like I indicated, a little rolling skill is required. I know I won't have a problem as I have been a rolly smoker for close to 40 years and roll between 20-30 uniform size joints a week. (Don't feel sorry for me, I eat cookies between joints to help stretch them out)

someone suggested that to @BuzzDanklin , and he tried it, and said it didn't taste good and it affected draw resistance. But i'd love for someone else to try it to get a second opinion

Yeah! That what I was wondering. If it doesn't taste as good, it wouldn't be that good of an idea. I wonder if different (flavoured?) papers would help.

As for resistance, that would come down to the finesse of the person rolling. A lot of novice rollers use way too much pressure when rolling, and make un-smokable joints. A rolling machine with measured amounts of correctly ground herb might be the go. Playing around with the coarseness of grind and amount of material may be required to get it right.

(Edit) Thinking about it more, I doubt that a rolling machine would get the desired result as it wouldn't make them fat enough without ramming too much herb in to allow an easy draw. Looks like it will have to be a hand job after all. (further edit.. barely resisted the urge to make more of that)

now that i think about it, i think he said he only had like, peach, rolling papers, so maybe that was why the taste sucked.

Also, does anyone with a hopper also have a Water Puff and can tell me if the grasshopper will seal with the Water Puff's glass bowl?

Personally I think this is a wonderful idea. Perhaps use a Raw Organic Hemp paper, a roller for symmetry, and a generally loose pack for airflow. A few pinholes down the sides also sounds like it may help.

It's worth a try. Can't wait to see what people come up with for the Grasshopper once it's mass-released (i.e. actually released).

More importantly, however, I'm more excited to see what Hopper Labs will have in store for future Grasshopper generations. A data-transferring charging cable, with which one could install firmware updates or have a technician diagnose and troubleshoot issues from afar (Boulder)? A minimalistic integrated battery indicator? Or perhaps a redesigned heat-sinking mouthpiece? Can't wait. :haw:

Lol Like the avatar. Knits so well with your wish list of GH mods.

Probably not the right place as it just don't translate to vaping, but WTF.

(to the tune of the rhyme, Row row, row your boat)

Roll, roll, roll a joint
Have a sip of wine
Take a toke and hold the smoke
Blow your f@cking mind.

Lmao thanks.

My avatar is I believe the logo for an older version of Wine, a wrapper program that enables Linux users to run Windows programs in Linux. I thought it was a cool icon... But yeah, I guess drinking red wine and/or consuming cannabis while using my PC is a pleasure in my life that isn't necessarily unhealthy or unruly. So...yeah....

I am saying above that me personally I would like a bubbler. The unit itself isn't too hot but the vapor just makes me cough.

Is this maybe because it's metal? i have normally found metal's to be too harsh in the past when i smoked... and dosn't the silicon mouthpiece heat up somewhat

Exactly. Buzz did a test and posted some pictures a few weeks back - results were horrible as expected.

Convection vaporizers require airflow through the herbs. If you wrap the herbs in paper, the air has no where to flow except around the outside of the herbs.

You will get *some* minimal vapor (due to conduction heat transfer), but you won't get true dense vapor clouds without removing from the paper.

Hence why I suggest using paper as a method to store the herbs, and then rip one open/dump into the GH as needed.

You are not smoking out of the metal so that doesn't really affect it. Its just that the vapor path is so short, and our lungs don't usually just inhale baking oven temperature air a few centimeters from the source. I consider myself to have "leather lungs" and am able to handle any temp vapor without coughing. I think the grasshopper snuck up on me because I didn't expect it to keep up and produce as much vapor as it did so that ended up making me cough. We all will eventually find our ideal techniques :D

And the silicon session extender will eventually get hot with constant use, but in my normal experience it protected me enough to be comfortable while hitting it. :leaf:

I use it pretty much the same way except when in a group I usually encourage folks to just take their own pinch, crush it and then pass it on so everyone gets freshies. Even factoring load time that way I think it's still faster than waiting for a pax to even warm up but on th other hand I'm usually not in a rush when consuming cannabis :-)

I have used it with the fully packed bowl at low temp, I agree you could use it that way virtually anywhere, it does taste great and I feel the effect any temparture above 2. It's not my preferrence though because I've been finding airflow is inverse related to pack.

@Ratchett I've got a slightly complicated yet awesome case idea I'd love to give you.

I'd love to hear about it to! the ideal case holds some ground herb (and perhaps that compartment has a spout that just happens to be the internal circumference of the bowl :-) and an extra battery

Being thinking about the loading queries/ideas and had a thought that compliments the stealth aspect of the GH. Nice fast no fuss re-loads.

I think that once you all get your Grasshopper's I think you'll be less concerned about the ease of load. It's real easy to load as is and I couldn't imagine wanting a standardized size when part of the charm is the flexibility of how much you can use. It's awesome to be at a party and just taste a pinch of someone else's strange and if it's fire pack in some more no problem.

The other factor which is IMPOSSIBLE to know until you try one because as a total fanboy (not just for GH just my personality Apple, BMW and now GH, the BMW of vapes lol) I would not have believed it. In fact when I watched @BuzzDanklin s video my thought was "damn, I might actually smoke too much weed, cus it's that guy's job to smoke weed and he seems WAAAY to wrecked for that tiny tiny amount of dope ...

Well I stand corrected.

So the reason why I think 95% of the people that think they care about ease of load won't care about it once they have their unit is because depending on tolerance/strain/temp you will be high by your second hit, real high by your third and won't want the 4th unless it's some amazing flavor (plus it'll probably auto-shut off by then). And to get me a person that consumes all day everyday, a pinch is always enough, if I'm feeling like I don't want reload for awhile I might step it up to 3 pinches.

There is no way to convince someone of the ahem ... efficiency of this unit without having seen it themself so I'm not gonna try. I would just say that I wouldn'tve believed it either and even if I did I wouldn'tve cared but now it's the "feature" I talk about the most!

Although question for Buzz, it's possible that I just haven't mastered the firefly yet but I think I'm fairly competent and do get great flavor, I'm wondering if you still think the firefly is the overall winner in that category. The GH has as good if not better flavor at low temps IMO with none of the hassle, wondering if you have any use tips for FF specific to maximum flavor or if your opinion has changed?

Cheers!

How about just pinching off a small piece of nugg, roll lightly between fingers to shape & loosen a bit, and then stuff lightly;). No fuss no muss, a quick & easy load! Seems the Hopper can handle just about anything you give it, and it gives back in spades. :2c::peace:

on the topic on loading/preloaded ideas.. What about some type of screen fitting? something shaped like an e-nano screen but longer... maybe a "pill capsule" could be made of screen? Or maybe I'm just procrastinating geology homework.

but prefilled "cartridges" sounds like it could be cool and helpful for people who want to keep an eye on there daily intake...

i imagine the hopper bowl is similar in diameter to the old thermovape evolution 510 threaded herb carts. i had two of these and i simply carried a small jar or vial of preground flowers. with that you just put the lip of the jar/vile against the top of the bowl and rotate the jar/vial like a cement mixer. the flowers would just fall out and into the bowl. cheap and easy.

The Indica portable was a bit hard to load. I used to use a folded piece of paper with the herb on it and funneled it into the unit. @Ratchett made an awesome loading tool - quite genius in fact. He will be on the case with the GH. I will be curious what he comes up with once he receives his unit.
