Speaking of batteries someone on reddit claimed the grasshopper uses a 13650 battery. Can someone with a unit on hand confirm this?

Is that an ecig battery? I don't think so its about the size of a triple a but slightle longer.

I was pretty surprised at the cost myself..
Ya I was unaware of that. I will bet that isn't covered under the warranty and that is why.

It's good to live in Boulder! I got my holiday backer email confirmation today, then emailed trevor to see if I could just pick it up instead ... and then stopped by .... they were out to lunch but, I left a bribe of a six pack of my home-brew beer and got an email back a few hours later to stop by. First of all as for the grasshopper itself, go right ahead and believe the hype, this thing is AWESOME!!

Also, Matt and Trevor are totally cool, spent about 30 minutes or so talking with them. The quality of the product is one thing but these guys are really cool and I'm excited for them.

Back to the Grasshopper, I will just tell you my experience so far. For one I am everyday cannabis consumer with a fairly high tolerance -HOWEVER- I just spent a week at sea level and have been back in Colorado for only about 16-17 hours ... that said I am RUHL HIGH *scientific term*

So as I was riding my bike back from the labs, I was imagining that I would do this unboxing video and comparison to the pax2 and firefly. I even had my favorite "flavor" strain Terrapin Care Station's Agent Orange. I was even wearing my Agent Orange t-shirt for the video. I even bought a burrito from Sancho's which was going to make for the post script. I had it all planned out ...

Instead, what happened was I was setting up my bong for that demonstration (the mouthpiece adapter fits perfectly fyi) and got a text from some friends to come to happy hour. So I just load up the Grasshopper with some non scientific amount of this strain called Bubble Gum.

I think I had the temp setting at 3, or maybe 4 because it actually took a bit to figure out which notch is the setting notch, (its the middle one directly above the clip). I took the first rip and I gotta say, maybe I've been using the Firefly (Saab) wrong but the Grasshopper's first hit with respect to flavor was as good as any good firefly hit. I took probably 3 or 4 more hits from that pack then unpacked it and was surprised because I had forgotten how little I put it in.

One thing that the guys at the lab told me was to remember to hit it hard. I totally forgot to do that the first few rips though if thats your style, you'll be fine because you get great flavor but when you rip this thing hard (as in your pax would collapse upon itself if you hit it that hard) you get ripped ... real ripped ... ruhl fast.

I then packed a full bowl, how much? I have no idea, some amount, the amount I grinded in my santa cruz grinder and the quickly packed until it was almost but turns out not quite full. I wish I could be more precise but I was a. not paying attention specifically then and b. really high then and c. higher still now.

I took the packed grasshopper (this time with some Durban Poison) to the bar. In the course of happy hour I ripped it a few times here and there, was never in any danger of not being high while everyone lapped me as I nursed a single beer.

When I got home I charged it for some period of time that was not very long, basically, long enough to for me to realize that instead of trying to resurrect my video plan I should walk my dog.

So I grabbed the GH (stainless steel one by the way) and walked my dog. I took a few hits over the course of the walk, how many? Don't know a few, on temp 5 and it was still the same bowl of durban that was almost but not quite fully packed before happy hour and it was still hitting, the flavor was mostly gone but still more left over than a pax would be at that point nursing the "final scorch".

I got back up to my apartment, repacked it a few times with small bowls fooling around with different temps and using my bong. I didn't keep notes but I probably took in total 5 hits of not full bowls at various temps and I should say I was surprised by how effecient it is at temp 5 in a bowl, the flavor was best around 4 in the bong but still good at 5 and huge clouds.

So far the battery hasn't died, no idea what that means except that it seems like under normal afternoon circumstances for me, I won't have to worry about battery life.

So that meandering diatribe was my first few hours with the grasshopper. The point which I tried but failed to make is that in my first experience of "Just using it" No real plan just going about my day and subbing in the grasshopper for a pax2 it would great. Different, for sure, better is the "wrong" word but definitely better, that quick start time is gonna be disruptive ... in fact if I were to say which competitors should be nervous, I don't think other flower vapes because they have their "charms" but I would say I would be nervous if I were in the oil pen cartridge vape game. The grasshopper is everything that I would want to have an "O-Pen" style vape for (instant on and quick cannabinating) except its not some trashy oil from who knows where, its my flower that I can choose exactly what strain.

So if you're waiting for one, it is on its way, believe! I've seen it with my own eyes. If you're sitting on the fence, jump in, it'll be worth the wait, I waited more than two years. If you're a hater, stop it, at least as to whether its a real company etc. They are real people and good people as far as I can tell but what do I know, I'm just a simple country lobbyist. They are working very long hours to get as many out the door as possible. I have seen cars there very late at night when I'm on my way home. The product is solid, I don't know if they could have done it faster but I'm glad they took the time they did and you will be too.

And before any gets angry about not getting theres yet, I'm a holiday backer, I live down the street, I didn't get any response from my email asking if I could pick it up until AFTER i got my address confirmation email and I STILL had to bribe them with beer! Which I brewed myself. In other words I had to work a little extra to get mine probably a day or two earlier than I would have otherwise because they are really just sending them out in whatever order they're in (we didn't talk about it but like I said I didn't hear anything until it was "my turn" anyway).

Now i'm going to try a temp step session from 2 -5 and finish the bowl on 5 with the bong. From there I'll probably just go ahead and eat that burrito, not make a comparison video and probably just watch t.v.

Sorry guys, though now I have much more sympathy for @midgetsanchez @Just Justin @BuzzDanklin and others. I had such big plans to contribute and be a hero by posting a video yadda yadda yadda but this grasshopper ... just got way to high :-)

HA! Now my battery is dead! before I even started my temp step session. So I have no idea what that means for battery life except for its way better than the firefly and like I said would get me through and average afternoon just fine, especially with the extra batteries. I also noticed that when charging from totally dead the alert light flashes both red and blue which is also when it doesn't have enough power to be used pass through. It took about 10 minutes to get enough charge for pass through at which points it flashes slower rapidity and only red.

This vape is very interesting, but I can't seem to find out what the heating element is made of.

@slcbdco
I'm actually interested in what you saw in Hopper Labs? How many people were there working/assembling? Did you see assembly taking place? Are they indeed running assembly 24/7 in shifts? Did you see evidence of a large outgoing shipment of hoppers in the near future?

Ahh, can almost visualize ya walking with that hopper, perhaps along the creek path? Not quite as nice near 28th/Valmont though imo, if you're near hopper labs anyways :p

thank you @slcbdco. though completely unplanned, i found your review extremely informative and encouraging, as well as entertaining.
Thanks! what was also unplanned was passing out on the couch before the battery recharged.

That gave an opportunity for another impromptu experiment for a wake and bake temp step session since I still had it the ground bud from last night (Polaris btw so I realized that this is going to be a long morning ... in the name of science of course).

I meant to start on temp 3 but accidentally started on temp 2 and I'm glad I did.

It's the extra few hits on 2 that were so flavorful and such light invisible vapor that made me realize that I won't be using this as a "session vape" (spolier alert I am actually happy about this).

I stepped up to temp 3, took a few more tasty hits but then I noticed that the auto timer usually went before I got around to my next hit, no problem because if you are SHARING A BOWL WITH FRIENDS (different than a personal session a'la joint) once it's going the second you click the button it's ready so the 5 second warm up time is ONLY been in my experience worst case scenario i.e. starting from dead cold. The temp 3 hits were still the best in a portable that I've used I'd say on par with the firefly this deep into the bowl.

Of course it was my plan to then go to temp 4 take a few hits then finish the bowl in my bong on 5 but I took a break because as I said the time between hits became longer than the shutoff timer and the device was getting kinda hot, nothing awful but mostly because by that point I was REALLY REALLY HIGH.

It's been about 20 mins or so, I did take 2 bong rips on 4 and I'll finish the bowl on 5 with the bong when I'm done with this post because ya know ... science but I gotta say I won't be using this the same as my pax/2 like a personal joint because the grasshopper is just way to ... ahem ... efficient, sure efficient, for that kinda use.

Don't know if efficient is the right word or even a word at all ... what I do know is that I am super high, so high in fact that even though I JUST got back from the east coast and I am in general a simple country lobbyist and a Boulder snob I just got a ravanoues craving for Dunkin Donuts.

And there is one, right across the street ... down the block from Hopper labs (which the guys called me over right when they got back from "lunch" (which was around 5 pm so no slackers) but the rest of the crew was still out so couldn't tell you much about them whoever asked, though high 5 for remembering that question huh?)

Anyway so yeah, super pumped on the grasshopper and when for whatever reason I want to get high way slower than this and have less flavorful hits, sure I'll use some of my other devices. For now I'll finish this bowl which for those keeping track was about half packed.

Also for those keeping track the burrito last night was amazing, if I can get my act together to do the video today I'll go back for Tacos, I've still got the Agent Orange ready.

And props for remembering that too! High Fives! #occupationalhazard #VapingRosemarydoeshelpmemory #tricksofthetrade #cannabislobbyist

@slcbdco Cant wait to get mine now! Thanks. This thing sounds great and your review, as already mentioned very amusing. It did make me chuckle a few times and I can imagine its much the same as I will be with my new toy when it arrives.....gonna be baked!

So the ps to the most recent Grasshooper inspired misadventure (I have a feeling it's gonna be a long summer tee hee) is this thing is CRAZY efficient!

It turns out the bowl was actually done after the second bong rip at 4 which was FINE because I am totally high.

Comparing my high to yours is not a good metric so let's try something that at least pax2 owners will get.

I use my pax2 like a personal joint. I would temp step from 2-4 taking hits at each temp until the flavor is gone.

I planned this bowl the same way but got sidetracked as described.

I am substantially higher from the GH than the pax2.

More to the point is how much less product used. Polaris is a fairly potent strain for me but so is Durban which was is in my pax2 yesterday.

So when the bowl was done I remembered I had a finished pax2 also so I compared the ABV and was shocked by the volume difference.

Once I figure out how to post pics on here I will but it's a stupid difference.

I live in Colorado and am fortunate that I always have access to quality cannabis. That's why I am most interested in the flavor a vape produces and I'm happy to sacrifice some efficiency for it.

I am as surprised as anyone to sincerely say that the efficiency of the grasshopper is it's a huge selling point/feature/whatever you wanna call it!

Remember that I was comparing that temp step session to what I expect from my pax so when you see the difference in how much cannabis used you'll be impressed. When you can use one yourself and also taste the flavor you'll be stoked!

I posted the ABV pic on massroots I have the same screenname SLCBDCO

made an acct just to see the pic... the ABV from the gh was prob about half the ABV from the Pax, if not less
So if I read it right that amount got you much higher than the amount shown from the Pax right?

GH more efficient than a Pax + screen trick?

I have a Pax and Solo, I found the Pax with the screen trick, while kind of a pain, was pretty efficient. And the solo I thought was really efficient as well. So if this matches those or surpasses them in efficiency I will be very happy. I love those units but I don't vape a lot, the the conduction can be annoying especially since it takes several minutes. It will be really nice to just take a quick drag or two or three quickly and be done with it! :spidey:

I'm loving all the recent reports of GH shipments. This thread is going to blow up fast!

Wtf thats messed up..i and im sure everyone else was under the impression that it would work once its dead you plug it in and it would turn on and charge just like a dead cell phone

The charger runs on a standard 5v USB outlet if I recall. There's no easy way you could get enough juice out of a USB battery to power a heater necessary for vaporizing flowers (at least with current technology).

I doubt even a 5v 2500mAH output wouldn't be enough for the power demands of this vape's tiny efficient heater.

@slcbdco thank you for that writeup! Can you comment on the staff size? How many people are building these hoppers and shipping them out? Is it mainly Matt and Trevor? or do they have 5-10 other friends helping out?

It was way less than half and I'm way more than double the amount ... "efficient" :leaf:   and it's super easy, this device does not care how much you load it.

Which brings me to another early observation which is unless there is a really good reason i wouldn't pack this tight because it works great and taste great with a lose pack and then it's almost no maintenance, the ABV basically just falls out

So originally (years ago) there were some comparisons to desktop vapes due to the powerful heater and tech... Can this replace my Volcano? It's probably better than my Arizer Air based on heat up time and draw resistance alone.

Still curious about this vape. A lot of times a new vape or even water tool will have a unique signature and it can feel really buzzy, but it's just because its different. That's how I felt about the AA, but after a while I got used to it and think its kinda weak.
