I go where the thrills are
My Firefly batteries seem to die really quick. The first one stopped holding a charge after ~50 charge cycles and they sent me a replacement (this was back in November). Now, it's been maybe 20 charge cycles since I got the replacement (haven't been using the unit very often), and the fully charged battery lasted just 7 hits last night (10 second button press per hit). I e-mailed FF about possibly getting a replacement 770 mAh battery, but they're claiming that it sounds like an issue with the unit itself, that it is drawing too much power from the batteries and making them drain quicker. Has anyone else had to send their unit in for this type of issue? I really think it's just the fact that the 750 mAh batteries suck, but CS is insisting that I send it in. Should I? Do they pay shipping both ways? The unit is performing the same as day one, but I've never been able to coax more than 20-25 10 second hits from a fresh 750 mAh battery...

I agree, this sounds like a battery issue, not an FF device issue. Have you heard this "send it back to us" advice from more than one person at FF? Me, personally...I would call them and let them know I'm unhappy with the 750 battery and would they consider sending me a new 770 to try before sending back the FF? Because it's public knowledge at this point that there were some defective 750s floating around last fall, you seem to have gotten one, and not only would this likely solve the problem (rather than sending back the FF) but in fact you are probably owed a free 770 if the 750 is faulty.

I would bet anything you have a bad 750, plus an old, going-bad 750, and a 770 would fix your issue. OK not anything, but a small bet....

Sounds like what i get out of a battery too.:) im gonna grab some new batteries and see if its any better :)

It will be. The 770's are great.

And here's something cool I discovered about the 770s, mostly by accident...they seem to have a stealth "quick charge" feature. If you drain one, you can charge it for like as little as five minutes and get a whole slew of large hits right away. It can take close to an hour to fully charge a thoroughly depleted 770 but you can get a decent amount of use out of a dead one with a very short charge. Just the other night I charged a dead 770 for maybe four minutes, and got seven or eight really large hits from it (and still didn't get a red light before I put it back on the charger).

They really need to trumpet the virtues of the 770 a little louder, methinks.

hi all

buying advice for a mate, he has it narrowed to this and the mighty, any comparison would be ace but also. what are the negative bits, what should he be aware of?

i know it is a bit vague but in my defence i am quite stoned. all help is rewarded by me smiling sweetly at the screen

I have a major problem, my Firefly was accidentally dropped and my bowl chipped, I'm hoping I can buy a new bowl from Firefly as I haven't seen them sold as a separate part.

Ouch. I don't think you can buy that as a separate item...I have a feeling that's a "replace the whole FF" problem. Let us know what they say!

A comparison question like that is best posed in the Ask FC forum. As for negatives....mostly a somewhat finicky learning curve. Now that the new batteries are working great, the biggest downside to the FF has been resolved.

If you have no joy at getting a replacement drop me an email I'm pretty sure I have one I can take off a faulty ff,, the fault is electrical & I know there's nothing wrong with the bowl on my faulty one.

Thanks for the offer, no luck finding a replacement ATM, FF say they don't sell replacement bowls, so yes if anyone has a possible solution Id be happy to hear it.

Yeah, I pushed back some more and they agreed to send a new battery. Hopefully this fixes the issue. They're only shipping the 770s now, right?

The firefly does not require stirring. I always get complete extraction, and never stir mine because I don't pack it very tight. If I go too fast this can result in a dark spot in the center, which doesn't bother me a bit. Especially when compared to sucking on a phallic-shaped milkshake, but we all have our preferences.

I played with it a little more this weekend and got a few decent good bowls but still kinda finicky lol. I don't mind the dark spots but it tastes bad lol.

I have not. I have the Solo, which I like a lot, but haven't touched in the 18 months I've had my FFs. Both the Solo and the Air use a lot of conduction and radiant heat to cook herb, so while to your taste they may be close to the FF, for a lot of folks, the combination of pure convection and the stainless-steel, fully-exposed air path give FF a flavor that is unmatched by other portables. (Or even desktops, for me.)

Hey, back on topic! I agree with Grokit....if "not stirring" is a huge benefit to you, put less in the FF, make sure it's ground to at least a medium grind, and leave enough room for it to be shaken (or just for the herb to kinda spin around in the bowl when you hit it). Voila. No stirring. Personally this doesn't work as well for me as a packed, must-be-stirred load, but to each his own....like Grokit lots of FF users do it this way, quite satisfactorily.

The taste of the firefly stands out in the beginning and tastes a little better than the air but imo the air has better lasting taste if that makes sense. But either way. This things awesome if I get it going right lol.

On a side note, my friend accidentally got it to combust and cleared the whole bowl in one hit lol (almost coughed up a lung in the process) Immediately the whole vape and window was covered in resin from the inside even tho I just had cleaned it. I cleaned it all out with iso but now everything I vape has a "combustion-like" taste. Any way to get rid of this lingering stench lol. It's killing the flavor.

They are sending just 770s now I believe. I just got my firefly and a spare and they were both 770s

Wow, not only is the Firefly the best vape but Firefly owners are the best as well!

BTW, I have sent you a private message.

Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
Question on the concentrate pads. I love my FF, and want to try the concentrate pads they started selling. Is it me or is 10 bucks to ship 3 small pads in an envelope that only cost 8 bucks seem excessive? Is there a better rate somewhere? I'm in the US.

Lowest rate I see is 7.82...I'm in Maine, about as far away from them as I can get in the US.

You can order two packs for the same ship price. I know it seems stupid to spend more, but maybe it makes more sense in terms of the per cent of the order spent on shipping. (Or wait until you wanna order something else....that damned Ff2 is due any day now....:p:lol:)

Well, it's saying $9.80 for me. Oh well, 20 bucks isn't so bad if they work real nice (and I hear they do).

Can any of the firefly vets help with the above?

My advice is to give it several good iso cleanings. One is probably not enough. I'd also change the screen (make sure you remove it and give the steel plate a good iso wipe, but be careful not to drip into the holes). It might take three cleanings to really get the combustion taste out of it.

How your friend combusted in an FF that you had previously described as not generating a lot of vapor is a little elusive to me. :hmm: Do you remember exactly what he did that caused the combustion? You've got me curious...

Lol. I had some weed that got finely ground. I was still in the learning curve stage and playing with how much I'm using in a bowl so I packed a bit extra in there. My button has a little play in it and he was wiggling it and kept pushing the button on and off unknowingly and burnt it all up. Lol

I got my new 770 mAh battery from Firefly. However, I think it may be defective. I plugged the unit in to charge and I get the blinking blue light for around 5 seconds, followed by a solid green light. This is with the unit turned off and plugged into the charger. Never seen that before. I have to assume it isn't charging if the blinking blue light isn't there. If I unplug and try to turn the unit on, I get no lights. At first I thought the unit had bricked, but when I put the old battery in, it seems to be functioning as usual. Anyone else have this experience with the new batteries?

I have never seen this. This person reported something similar....but different...

I agree, sounds like the battery since the old one works ok. But they already argued with you once about battery vs device, so hopefully they won't be obstinate about trying another battery.

I love FF more than anyone, and as long as they make great vapes they'll be getting my money. But some of these stories lately...:bang: Come on guys, give us the FF2 and we'll all put these first gen issues behind us.:nod:

On Concentrate Pads the material from Bikel Und $tickel, you know the guys who make the Sneaky and the Blitz, or whatever they're called, has a certain look, and it seems that the Firefly pads are those. If that's the case, they're worth every penny. Each pad is like a tube sock of Stainless Steel chain of mail. It unfolds. You can cut off pieces. It's excellent material, conducts heat well, doesn't affect the taste.

Oh, I should explain that when you open up one of these, it's like a very loose weave, and the astounding fact is that it's ONE wire that's woven this way. These are used in the Volcano and Crafty and so on. You can get them for about five bucks each with free shipping on e-bay. Look for "volcano vaporizer oil pad" you'll find several sizes, figure out the best size for you.

Yeah, I hit them up again and they immediately claimed it was the unit causing the issue. Not sure how they reached that conclusion...
