@dUbmethod20- it's 26 ga, came out to 1.0 ohms, I have no idea how many wraps, I followed the directions and used my intuition to determine how many wraps. I have been wrapping my own coils for some time, you kind of get a feel for how many wraps you need no matter the build structure. I told you it was powered by a Hana clone. I keep the Sigelei for my ejuice.
Nice. I like to run my coils@a lower resistance. I find they get hot more quickly and leave less to reclaim but that's mostly personal preference

Here's my latest favorite build.

I got a different version of the Veritas RDA that has more room in front of the hole. On the old verison I could only get 1 - 3mm white ceramic rod with a Nickel/Kanthal clapton coil on there.

Now I got 2 - 3mm white ceramic rods and dual Nickel/Kanthal loose clapton coil. Im not very good at making clapton wire and I was lazy, so this set turned out loose, but seems to work just fine. This setup holds a large hit, im talking the hugest fat dabs and vape it all through a water piece in about 5 seconds at 40joules or take several smaller hits at 20-25joules.

The rods hold a lot of oil, when new or after torching you can see them wick the oil up with a couple of button presses. they get a golden wet look. They get darker after several hits as you can see in the pics, but they never get darker than that.

Both coils come out to 0.09ohms together. 10 wraps of 28g Nickel/32g Kanthal Clapton.

I just picked up a kiss ac today from a local dispensary and I have to say it really kicks ass. I've tried the dual coil and ceramic donut and it kicks ass so far. Wayy better than a standard globe.

nice! i should have my white evic vt tomorrow! cant wait. have you run any nickel wire on that mod yet?

what ceramic rods are those? and where did you find them?

i have been looking at coil porn lately and saw rip t diy on the fused clapton coil. he shows how the coil alone wicks a bunch of juice w/out any wick. pretty cool. makes me think that your looser clapton may actually benefit you in that the coil itself can hold oil. i have never had much luck with a wickless build, but i have never had temp regulated device to use one on. so i will be experimenting with wickless and dif style ceramic wick builds as soon as my evic vt arrives.

Yeah, the coil holds some oil, Im sure some of the fancy specialty wires can hold even more, I just dont have the patience to make specialty wires. I was hoping that a Temp. Control device that can use Kanthal would come out soon so I can just buy the premade wire from Vapor Grudge and the like.

Right now, Im using Nickel as the center wire and the Kanthal is just wrapped around and not connected to the posts. Only the Nickel is connected to the posts so the Kanthal is there just to help hold the oil, doesnt affect the resistance much that way.

The white ceramic wick comes from Vapesupply on Ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251676516521

They also carry the FC2000 black wick. The White rod are more like 3.5mm diameter.

On another note, I got a KISS AC last week, I like it ok.. I enjoy the 1701 donut the best, Nice tasty light hits. When I wanna get ripped I use my Veritas RDA with the build I shown above. Not even the dual coil AC can compare to it! lol

yeah im not sure there is a pre-made solution that will rip like a DIY setup.

regarding those white ceramic rods... do you know what kind of ceramic that they are made of?

I have tried the evic vt with tempered NI200 28awg and Spider Silk (tigr1). Ni200 gives me much cooler vape. I perfer Ti over NI200 for taste and warmth of vaper. I run the KISS AC single coil@470F and the dual coil@500F. Wax last forever with temp control...I'm pretty amazed and I have been using this combo for 9 days now lol. I also owned alot of w9 and VB gear. Im so sold on temp control.

i just ordered some spider silk in 26g. and will have to pick up some Ni locally i hope. so the Ni provided a cooler vape eh?

i will def be copping some of that lightning Ni. love that vendor for kanthal. wish they had Ti.

thanks for the info.

@2clicker where are you finding the evic vt for $55?

i ended up getting it from MyVaporStore for $57. came out to like $63 after shipping. this is the "express" kit tho. it does not come with the tank.

http://www.myvaporstore.com/Joyetech-eVic-VT-Temp-Control-Express-Kit-p/joye-vtl03.htm

i belive that vapenw also has them for around the same price. vaperoyalty also has the express kit.

mine was delivered today, but im about an hour away from getting there. need to pick up some Ni on the way home.

pics to come!

*EDIT* ok so i copped some Ni wire on the way home and my Evic was sitting there waiting for me. the shop i got the wire from only had 32g so i just grabbed a few feet of that. i was expecting to get a 28 or 30... anyway. so i got to sit down and play with the Evic for about 20 mins. first impressions were great although it was a little bigger than i was expecting/hoping... but... the features more than make up for that! the build quality is very good. the finish is just like a cars finish. it feels like they used automotive paint and clear coat on it. the button gives a great tactile feel, but i did notice a annoying click upon a few releases of the button. most people prolly wouldnt notice it.

so i wound a very basic coil. about 9 or 10 spaced wraps on about a 3mm screw. came out to around .3ohms. i first fired it in VW mode set at about 15W and it fired up quickly and it grew red hot within 2 seconds. i turned the wattage way down to like 5 and it just seemed to slow the ramp up time. then i switched into VT-Ni mode and holy crap... this is a game changer. i set the temp to 420deg and fired her up. the coil warmed up, but did not glow. i must have fired it for over 20 seconds (going around the 10 sec cutoff) and it did not glow. then i fired it again and same thing so i took a dabber with tiny spec of shatter on it and it vaped up like i took it to a nail! then i thought well lets see how hot this can be set before the coil glows red hot. i turned it up to the max 600deg and fired it up. this time i put very small amount of oil directly on the coil and it vaped VERY fast, but the wire did NOT even come close to glowing red. now i know i will never be running this mod set at temps that hot, but its great to know that oxidation is cut down if not eliminated altogether. i do not have any cotton so i cant do the cotton test, but i will soon.

needless to say i am really excited about experimenting with some new coils. ive got some good clean Ti wire en route. this shit is going to get really good! anyway thats about all the time ive really had to mess with it. temp regulated coils are the next step.

@2clicker, Here is a crappy video showing the temp control kicking in @500f on a KISS AC single coil cart. Every hit is super tasty! Wish the KISS AC had better airflow.
the video dont show how conservation TC/TP is with WAX. Loaded .05g and take over 20 hits. Flavor is still excellent and the coil is still wet with oil.

Sick!!! I wish the IPV4 worked with ti. I sent yihi an email asking if they plan to release an update to work with ti. If not I'll have to look into the evic vt

so i had the most pleasant experience i have ever had last night with an RDA dab rig. there is no question in my mind that temp regulation has changed things.

i took some 32g nickel and wrapped a long nano coil. then i took that nano coil and threaded it into some RXW and wrapped it into a DBC. the nano coil inside the RXW is something i have tried in the past with kanthal but the kanthal is too rigid and would poke through the RXW and basically ruining it. but because the Ni wire is so soft... no pokey!

ok now to the Evic... so i loaded up a nice sized dab, set it to TV Ni mode, 420deg, 30 watts, .32ohms, and fired her up. i got the most flavorful hit i have ever gotten from an RDA. the rip wasnt very big, but i got a TON of them and was very medicated. then i set it to 480deg, 45watts, still .32ohm, loaded up another dab and wow. a considerably larger rip and flavor was still amazing. im not sure it will milk glass at those settings, but i had to put it down after that. so LOTS of more experimenting to go to find that perfect dab.

regarding efficiency... yep the temp reg is a huge help with this. i am getting more medicated from the same size dab than before. i am in love. the only way to improve this mod is to make it a little smaller (again it is small, im just picky) and make it with swappable cells.

so now my dabs taste better, last longer, and medicate more. if you are on the fence about a temp reg device... dont hesitate. just buy now.

I am having a hell of a time working with RXW. I referenced this thread and I cannot get anywhere near a DBC. I am having a hard enough time getting a nicely shaped coil, but the biggest problem is ripping the RXW apart as i wind. It breaks when I bend the wire too tightly, and it will crumble at the end where I am holding it to the wire with tweezers. I've used up 6" 1.7mm RXW and have nothing to show.

How do you get a nice tight coil? I can't bend it that tight.

Any tips?

is the 1.7mm RXW the "slim"? basically you need the smallest size RXW available. the larger two sizes are woven tight enough and will split open and become a mess.

if you are using the slim RXW and still busting it open then im at a loss.

how are you wrapping it? check out the pics in my emporium thread. and its harder to wrap on thinner wire. thicker wire will hold its shape and that helps. thats not to say you cant do a DBC in small gauge wire.

dont get me wrong these coils can be a PITA to build. hit me with some more specifics and i can get you goin.

It's the slim RXW. RBA supplies calls it both 2 and 1.7mm on their site I guess.

I used kanthal ribbon because that is what I have been using with my stainless wick. It's is durable and I like it. I tried some twisted double 34ga but only had enough for one attempt. I'll go pick up some wire from the local vape store. What size(s) do you think I should try?

I probably just need a good method of winding it. I just wasn't able to do it really neatly and it required a lot more manipulation than the wick could take. I was trying to wrap around a finishing nail.

Your thread is the one I linked. How do you hold it to the needle when wrapping, and how do you get it tight? Do I need to wrap it as more of a cone and then flatten it?

I ended up getting an igo-l. I thinking about trying a more oval coil of around 1.5ohms. I cannot use sub 1 ohm coils and I would like a bigger one that gives me the option to load up multiple hits. A round coil that works is the first step though.

its good that you got the igo-L if you want 1.5ohm coils. basically with a DBC, just like any coil, the more wraps the more resistance. with a DBC more wraps also means a larger coil. and the igo-L has room to accommodate that due to it only having 2 posts.

and yes the RXW is fragile and needs to be manipulated with care. dont worry about a little fraying on the ends. its gonna happen. the DBCs i make for others are 32g twisted kanthal, but for myself i have been making low resistance DBCs and really finessing the button (until i got my evic). so for that i use a straight 26g kanthal. a single strand fits well in the slim RXW and stays put when bent. so it makes DBC building pretty easy. BUT its a monster of a coil. i pretty much cant share it with newbs because they will burn the dab no doubt.

so when you ask what wire gauge you should get... you should ask yourself what resistance you are looking for. then pick a wire size. if i were you, i would get both 30 and 28g kanthal and make one from each. experiment with those.

all of this is a non issue tho if you get a temp controlled device. wire size doesnt mean nearly as much. sorry i keep saying that shit errybody, but i am so stoked on TC right now. moving forward i will only recommend a TC device to anyone who asks what to look for. its that fucking great.

back to the DBC... i use a luer lock syringe needle tip and it has a plastic part that attaches to the syringe. the needle sticks out of that. i really need to put a build video in that thread eh? anyway, i use 1-3/4" of slim RXW. i slide the wire in. the wire is about 3 to 3.5" in length. i place the wire/RXW combo length wise to the needle. right up against it and the first 3/8 of the RXW gets put between 2 pieces of the luer lock plastic. hard to explain sorry. then i start to wrap it. obviously wrapping it ontop of itself to form the coil. now depending the wire size will determine how well the coil will stay together when you let go (right after wrapping). usually it sort of uncoils itself to where the wraps are not touching. thats when it can get tricky. at this point i take the lead sticking out the bottom and bend it parallel to the coil towards where the other lead comes off. then i wire these together with a separate piece of wire to keep the leads close together. this helps with installation and can be removed after the leads are secured in your RDA. or you can leave it on there.

so im not sure if this shit is making sense or confusing you more. i will be posting a build video for the DBC. as well as the new nickel DBC.

did i forget anything? lol

The kanthal ribbon was my problem. 30ga was easy peasy. My biggest issue now is scrounging up enough wick.

damn you posted this while i was typing my memoirs. i had a feeling it was the ribbon. sharp edges.

Even after figuring it out, this is still super helpful. It would be really nice to find a needle that is partially split lengthwise. Kind of like an old springless clothespin.

I get back to this thread every few months and I was interested to hear about the TC devices this time. Too bad I just bought a new itaste vv v4 a few weeks ago. Are there any smaller pocket sized TC devices yet? I know I am burning my wax more often than I would like.

The biggest problem with the ribbon is getting it to hold its shape. Because its so thin, it bends like small wire, but is lower resistance.
