we were working in a heavily wooded area off the highway. The weather was crisp but overcast. I was tasked with using the heavy pole hedger which I did with great precision but I distinctly remember sticking my hand in a cluster of poison ivy. Tom saw the whole thing and reminded me about the ivy.I made sure to wash my hands off but I did take a wee in the woods before I left. Now, I have a rash all over the man area. It is very itchy and now I may need help

cold showers, often.

if you get boils (i do, its horrendous) you can reduce the itch and stop the oozing with something called domeboro, should be otc.

I've been there man. The only thing that helped me was getting a dose of steroids. Cleared it right up. Ive been battling that plant my whole life.

salt paste my friend.

add just enough water to salt so that it forms a paste. rub vigorously and add more salt as needed. the salt absorbs the oil so when you wash it off the oil goes away instead of spreading.

takes care of the oil in no time... as for being a painless technique... not really... but it is better than itching of the groin!

you can also wear clay or calamine to ease the itch

They have like a gritty 'wash' (like the soap with sand in it) now that you can get and rub it in while you shower. Works great. Wish they had it when I was a kid back in summer camp and I had it all over the place.

Never heard of the salt thing though.

My husband gets poison ivy like no other person I've ever seen. He had it once from head to toe so badly he looked somewhat like a leper...

Domeboro soaks, applying washclothes soaked in it, and an antihistamine for the allergic reaction worked well. But something we have found that works really well in drying out the rash is Fels Naptha soap. We keep it on hand at all times. You can usually find it in grocery and hardware stores. It was originally made for washing clothes.

The key is to keep it dry. Change underwear often, sheets and towels daily to keep it from spreading. Clothing too if it's spread.

I suggest some reclaimed oil from one of your rigs. Or I would even suggest slowly melting down some concentrates till runny enough then apply. Might seem weird, but...

I put reclaim from my oil rig drop down on all cuts and burns with tremendous effect(or is it affect).
Healing time reduced, as well as no blisters after treating a burn with reclaim, and noticeable reduction of any scarring , almost minimal. I have also used it on mosquito bites(good riddance, state of Florida) with great success in reducing the itch. I love to scratch(not till I bleed or anything)a bite, feels so good, lol, but with reclaim or regular oil, it stops my itch dead in its tracks. Placebo?? I don't think so. I have done this many times, but I am no Dr. of course. Next time my enail and I tangle, I am going to take pictures of the burn and the healing process with oil, so I can start to document what I preach so people don't think I am weird.

No offense but there is no fucking way I'm wasting my concentrates (or reclaim for that matter) on myself in that manner. There are a host of other natural remedies and besides...shits expensive :uhoh:

I still vote for salt... but thats only cause I have to use it to rid myself of poison ivy every year.... apparently I just cant figure out how to stay out of it.

I could use calamine for weeks and still have it spread but 2 or 3 good abrasive applications of salt paste will have that oil dried right up.

experience has taught me more than online tutorials have when it comes to poisons.

just please dont use bleach or draino or some crazy cleaner.... I got that kinda malicious terrible help when I was a teen and yea... ever had chemical burn and poision sumac at the same time?

they thought it was funny when my testicles swelled but I didnt!

well... people shut up right quick when you threaten to hug them with giant poision sumac or ivy rashes all over!

gimmie a hug you cute little fucker you!

plus you get to look like a badass rubing salt into wounds like yea fuck you... I dont use bandaid... I rub salt in that bitch!...

got any lemon?

edit: if it gets really bad and/or your very alergic... take yourself and your itch to the hospital and get a corticosteroids shot.

I know know an old thread, and pretty sure (hopefully) your rash is gone by now but can relate to your pain. I'm hyper allergic to the shit so the many times I've had it, it's never been a small case. Face and the bend of arms and legs are where I say the worst place to get it are but having it on you junk sucks pretty badly too. Usually at the first sign, the little scratch looking line, I go to the doc to get a steroid that reduces the reaction, but often by time realize I have it, it's to late. I've found baking soda and water on a compress works well and also using a blow dryer to dry the areas out. Would do this after showers and randomly through the day and I feel helped shorten the duration and as momofthegoons said, change sheets and other stuff comes in contact with frequently.
