Ice Cream Addiction........

I LOVE Ice Cream as well, even though my toilet seems to hate me the next day. Usually I get the pints from ben & jerry's, half isn't enough, 2/3-3/4 doesn't leave enough for next time. So often I will eat 2/3, put it away for the next day and no more than an hour later I finished the rest. I only do it once every week or two, but still probably around 800 naughty calories. Sometimes I will get the little mini haagen daaz or however you spell it but ben and jerry's tastes better to me.

I got some 'now with half the fat' kind of ice cream a while back and was trying to figure out how they do it. It's half the density, so for the same volume it has half of everything.

I almost bought an ice cream maker a few months ago at a secondhand store but I wasn't sure I would use it so I didn't buy it. Was also worried I would become a total ice cream junky.

That's why I don't usually buy those pints anymore

The factor in that ice cream that makes it have half the fat and everything else is called overrun, it's just whipping air into the mix to expand its size, and letting it freeze up while this is happening.

Finally if you get an ice cream maker, and IF (this latter if is a big one) you have the discipline not to eat store-bought ice cream any more, then you can have better quality ingredients and you will eat less ice cream overall. Because unless you get the expensive kind with its own freezer it's a total pita. Even the kind with the freezer is a big pain compared to store-bought, unless the store is a really long ways away.

This is a REALLY strange addiction. I ONLY get an ice cream urge about once a week but when it hits and when I try to resist, the mind fucking that goes on in my head is so unbelievable, I can and DO rationalize giving in no matter how much I don't want to.

That last part isn't unbelievable. That's how addictions work, but what's really strange is that it only comes on about once every 7 to 10 days. The other days, I don't even think about ice cream.

And.........one of those little cups of Hagen Daz will satisfy me just as well as a full pint of Ben and Jerrys, that is as long as the flavor is right so quantity has nothing to do with it.

Weird.

I never thought ice cream was all that (all the contrary, I thought is was an unpleasant sugar rush followed by a stomach ache and a stint on the couch) until a couple of years ago when we indulged a guest with B&J chocolate heath bar whatever. Pretty good I thought. Since my vaping started, B&J has been a weekly purchase. Tonight dough if you haven't tried it yet : ) And my most recent favorite half baked (while 3/4 baked, of course).

I've decided to significantly reduce my ice cream consumption. Not for weight, although it will help with the belly paunch. It's more about reducing my sugar intake, and finally trying to improve my cholesterol numbers. I have been able to mostly keep from binging when I have a 1/2 gallon on hand by getting vanilla, and only eating cones. But I eat a cone ~every day, and it's about a 50/50 chance that I will eat two.

I never quit anything cold turkey if I can help it, it only creates cravings that lead to binges. So I will use the distance to my favorite ice cream as a deterrent, and will eat only that ice cream from now on while keeping the vanilla/cone strategy in place. It's a solid 2 hour drive to get that big tub of haagen daz vanilla. I can cheat this system by getting cones from a shop that scoops them, and by buying pints of h/d vanilla locally.

But that's okay, this will still reduce my consumption a lot because I'm enough of a cheapskate to not do this very often. I know from experience that when I go without sweets for a while that when I go back, they actually don't taste good at all until I get re-acclimated to the sugar. It's an interesting thing to experience, intuitively sugar will actually taste like the poison it is for the first couple of bites if you're not used to it.

:mmmm: This ice cream is the bomb, tastes like homemade. Usually get Ben & Jerry's or some Gelato in a pint, I forget the brand....but this stuff....wow.
