Underdog Log Vapes

Great Scott!
So some of the descriptions may have sounded like the unit is running cool, but i've also made it clear that from what I can tell, the unit is not running cool. I am pretty sure that's not a possibility. I meantion weak hits everyday, just to be clear. The one consistent thing is that the hits are not satisfying. Combustion is not the goal here, it is undesireable in this case.

This is why I am so baffled by this unit. From what I can tell, it is not running cool, it actually gets very hot when I have it plugged in for over an hour. Initially, i assumed i needed to dry my bud out, but that did not have any noticeable difference.I have tried 3 different strains with this unit.

I figured I would just use the unit with my glass and not straight draw from it. The real frustration came when my glass arrived. The unit barely milks. After taking a zillion hits, it just seems to me that the loading of the stem and the actual size of the stem are the problem areas. First, to load the stem you need to put in a very small amount, if you put in too much, when inserting the stem into the heating unit, the heating unit condenses your bud into a small ball and it strangles your hit. If you do load the proper amount, in my opinion, it is not a sufficient amount to get a nice milky glass hit. For me at this point its very hit or miss.

Have only used the unit on one outlet.

I think you should post up a pic of the bud you are using, just for curiosity's sake. This is mysterious.

Are these herbs (can't see the pics) spongy when pressed between fingers, or crumbly? Did you try the nugg (unbroken pinch from a bud), heat-soak, and puff-prime method I suggested?

Hit refresh, i think the pics should load now.

I did try your suggestion but as i took more hits the vapor did not get denser, quite the opposite in fact.

These specific nugs int he pictures are crumbly because i had them sitting out for about 48 hours this weekend. since then I open up my jars about 30 minutes during a session each day.

Ok ...is the wood warm or hot to the touch? Are you drawing light and slow? Is the plug into the vape pressed in all the way? No more combustion? Can you post a pic of a packed stem?

hot to the touch initially, but after taking a hit or two, warm. Yes, I am drawing light and slowly. The plug is fully into the vape. No more combustion

I think the combustion problem was because my third strain (which i have no more of) was especially dry.

I am thinking that the wood should not be discernabally cooler after only a hit or two. Never noticed that before.

Buds check out lol.

Gotta wonder if the voltage from your wall is not going wonky. There isn't much to these vapes. They get hot, or worst case they don't. Yours seems to be too hot then rapidly getting cold. Free solution, try plugging it in at a friends house for testing. More accurate, test the voltage coming out of the wall. I'll let someone else suggest the cheapest/best way to get that done.

Be careful with a multimeter, but the power outta be regulated by the wall wart so if it's heating up then that may not tell you much besides that your power supply isn't the problem.

Also, just sent in for a purpleheart peppermill! Now to decide on stems...

I'm fairly sure we can rule out voltage issues, since it's getting hot enough to blacken the herb and/or combust there's clearly no lack of heat.

Underdogette is on the case and trying some more comprehensive troubleshooting steps. :science:
Hmmm ...I'm wondering if there mightn't be an intermittent voltage issue (wire or filament irregularity?) since both hot and cold have been experienced???

I may have left my underdog on over the weekend and didn't realize it was reading 13.3v, do you think there's any damage? It seems to be running fine, maybe heat retention is a bit less? I could just be paranoid

Is this a current generation Dog? If not what vintage is it?

I wouldn't suggest doing that on a regular basis but it shouldn't hurt anything or cause any issues so no great worries.

My Pup always pulling double duty.
If we're not playing (vapin) she's hard at work making the house smell lovely (aromatherapy)
So 24/7 at our house.
And one thing I know for sure if ever a problem @underdog & @underdogette will take care of me with stellar CS...

What types of oils have you enjoyed in the aromacups? I plan to toss an aromacup on the UD when I'm not using it and would love some good oil ideas. I've picked up some extra beeswax already because I was told that will help the contents solidify and not spill when they are not being heated.
