I am one bowl into Electra. I haven’t been able to coax a big hit out of her yet but I didn’t try until late in the bowl. It has certainly done its job quite well with smaller hits. I will have to pause now before further testing. :-) I’ll be back with first impressions a little later.

Well, I gotta say worth the wait. I am very much enjoying this so far. I just got one of the best flavor hits I've had. I hadn't noticed a lot of flavor in this strain but I must have hit a perfect temp and got a mouthful. nice. That might have happened with any vape, but this is showing off its flexibility. I'm gonna remember that spot on the dial. :)

There was a slightly longer stem included but no screens and I don't have any basket or elb screens or flat screens large enough after bending, so i'll have to figure something out. They price kinda crazy retail.

Once I find some screens I have some basic male2males I can use to attach to glass, until I get something special. I'm not feeling any need (yet) to use water, but I like it. I haven't had any really hot hits so far.

I've gotten some big hits. :) Nothing really cloudy but I'm not a chaser. I care if they work, and they do. I'm doing a loose pack of between .10 and .13g. A tighter or fuller pack might well produce clouds, but i'm good so far. I'll get there.

The stem that fits inside the cap has a screen that us affixed in some way, hopefully not glue. It seems permanent so I'm not messing with it until I hear otherwise.

I have nothing bad to say about Ellie. She does get warm and might get hot on an extended session, but not too hot to touch and not without convenient holding areas that don't get warm.

So far a very nice first experience.

The screens are friction fit in the stems at least the ones I have. :) I move mine up and down depending on the type and density of the material. I also remove it for cleaning and to change from my short travel stem to my home desk stem. There is no glue that I know of or have seen since the first alpha and beta units were built.

As I have mentioned before, Arizer elbow screens are an excellent alternative and they're not nearly as expensive as ELBs. The capacity is lower of course, but you can get .1 g in one. I had absolutely no success trying to make my own screens. No matter what I tried they would not stay in place properly. YMMV. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you got two stems with only one screen. I got Jessica with two stems and no screens. That was a mistake, of course. I think @RastaBuddhaTao needs to stop using his Zion before he packages one up to send out. ;)

I am certain that there's no glue holding the screen in place in your stem. RBT is committed to maintaining a pure air/vapour path. You can move that screen to adjust the distance to the load, or you can push it out and put it in the longer stem, which is what I'd do because I find the longer stems are a bit smoother.

You will notice a little warmth in the body near the heater, but Jessica never gets more than warm even when I've done tests with extended power button times. Certainly not anything I'd call hot, and I have no fear whatsoever that it gets warm enough to affect the wooden body. I can't be sure about Ellie but I doubt she's much different in that respect.

Great to hear @cybrguy, a nice contrast to Kero and Pak, but still positive results (plus you do have a different version of course). Really nice to see more perspectives in here, and really glad that the low temps seem to working very well in the new design

Yeah ELBs are prohibitively expensive imo, I've got a couple EQ screens I can try with mine but they're shallowness always makes me uneasy, like the load isn't secure like it would be deeper in the glass. Screens that come with the Indica are nice big squares and a fine mesh, they may work well in the stems but I'm not sure of the size, ofcourse I will try it (they are cheaper to find, I'm sure many members have tons of em actually).

I also have an LSV screen still installed in my 18mm male to male, they're sized exactly right to rest at the bottom of the joint, but it does make the bowl very large, but if its used like a bowl left in the bubbler and put Zion on top to hit like you would LSV its easy tobstir in between hits and I think it could work well... Hopefully I'll be able to report on that soon enough

I'm not sure what contrast you mean, but as I've said before, the strength of the Zion is that it is a simple but versatile and powerful tool. I expect each person to evolve a way that works best, and that will result in a multitude of techniques and methods. What I've tried to describe is how to learn what works best for you. I certainly don't advocate that everyone should use my methods, but I do encourage them to explore the Zion the way I've described.

The fear of the load falling out of the elbow screen is understandable but not really warranted. Try this experiment: inhale a load into a stem (you can use your Underdog stem for this test) then simply hold it with the load facing down. Notice that little if any falls out. A light tamping at this point will keep the load secure, and don't forget that whenever you inhale you are pulling that load up into the stem. Whenever I remove a stem, I check the Zion to see if any of the load remains behind on the heater screen. I hardly ever see anything.

I tried making a screen from an Indica screen and failed miserably. Perhaps you have better screen-making skills than I do, so good luck with that. Since the stems are standard 18mm, there are probably other solutions out there as well. You can use whatever fits.

Maybe they meant from a couple professional testers to a regular guy with a new vape? :)

I may have tested a little too much last night. :) So far it's standout characteristics for me are the outstanding taste when staring at lower temps, the ease of handling and speed to the first hit, and the ability to choose 1 or 2 hits at a time without feeling any pressure to continue (like sessions). The quality of the hits have been very good and completely flexible from nips to very big hits.

I'm likin this so far.

Ah yes, perhaps contrasting was a poor choice of word, there are ofcourse many variables at work here. Maybe best to refer to it as just another perspective vs a contrasting one (bc more accurately, the experience isn't really that dissimilar I suppose, save for the likely more effective lower temps with new mica design?)

I do think you're posts so far do a pretty great job of describing the "everyman" experience, playing with your new toy @cybrguy, maybe the best word is that your posts provide a complimentary perspective to what we've heard previously.

I agree Pak, everyone will find what works for them with the Zion, all coming from different backgrounds and with the Zion versatility, but I do plan on pulling up your earlier instructional post when my Zion arrives for my initial test run, I believe its extremely helpful to have a starting point laid out for any manual-based vape, and yours are always well some of the most thought out, specific, and helpful, and seems especially true of your Zion starter tutorial. This gives a place to start from and tweak from there to individual preference, coming from Firefly (plus Thermovape and to some extent Elevape/Underdog/Lily too) I think I have a good foundation for this kind of control, and really look forward to my own tests (#5 whooo!)

I have tried that actually in the past, and you are right I was impressed how well the herb stays in place that way, but it still always makes me feel uneasy (purely psychological pretty much), seems Zion's oven screen is nice enough that there's not as much need for concern here as I had with Solo/Air and Underdog (mostly use bubblers with my UD anyway actually, so never an issue really).

But will try it all with the Zion! I thought you might've tried an Indica screen too (have you been testing Mike's new model btw? Sorry ot and pobably more of a pm question I suppose since that threads been quiet) I think I might've tried it when I had the LSV actually and had trouble as well, before trying the wand screen instead, I really do not enjoy working with these mesh screens at all in any vape... Anyway we'll see what I can do next week hopefully

@Shit Snacks, thanks for the kind words. @cybrguy and I were chatting about his new Zion last night in IRC (the Chat tab at the top of every page) so I was able to offer advice about his first experience. You (or anyone interested) would be welcome to jump into chat and check whether I'm around. Even if there's nothing happening, I usually watch that window if I'm at my computer. Just announce yourself when you join because the web interface assigns nicknames to new users if you don't specify one. Most people don't, so unless you tell me I won't know you're from FC. (It's not an FC-only channel.)

That is still variable as I try to find the right mix. I tend to work between 5 and 10 seconds. Being so used to glass I usually use the visual of vapor to control my hitting and until I can put it to glass I will be a little out of control of seeing what is actually occurring. In a PM I learned "officially" (I know you guys told me) that the screen isn't affixed in any way so I will pull it out the stem and try some glass tonite when I get home late. There is some serious friction holding it on now... ;)
