Smell my cheese
I have been seriously abusing my new MV this week. May I present to you my findings.

So you'll see I needed help from @MinnBobber to work out how to use it, very helpful thanks dude! At first I tried the stock black straw with flexicone. I found this pretty useless! Hardly got any vapour out of it.

Next I switched to the flexicone+. MUCH better, a whole world of difference in fact. This is how I'm using it now, dry and no water tools.

Going through the temp settings, I find anything above blurple a bit hot and dry. I cough quite a bit on green and red, and sometimes find them a little uncomfortable. I usually start on blurple and work my way up to red, which lets me get used to the heat and helps me to cough less. I feel like if there was a setting between purple and green I'd use that mostly.

The taste is nice, you do get a good flavour from it. I can't say I was exactly blown away by it in comparison to the other vapes I own though. Like any other vape you get the best flavour at low temps, purple was nice for this.

Vapour on this is different to other vapes and kind of hard to explain why. It has a blue tinge, not white like others, and while clouds seem large in volume, they don't seem as dense. Does anyone know what I mean? In certain lights they can look thicker or thinner.

I'm not 100% convinced by the design and build quality. Some of the finishing around the edges had some chips. I also had a screw from the battery fall into my lap. Every man should have a security screwdriver bit set for situations like these. Also the lights and buttons confuse me sometimes. They don't just go up or down, they cycle through the temps, so you don't need two buttons to accidentally press and change your temp. Also at certain times both the temp and battery meter will be green or red, which my pea brain sometimes struggled with. It's hit the temp! No it's still heating up, that's the battery you're looking at. My other bugbear was the temp drop between hits, it seems to take a while for the MV to get back up to the temp setting after a draw.

I don't feel I'm getting the best out of it as it is, so I've ordered a MF Orbiter for my first foray into water tools. Yes I know I can get cheaper from China, but it looks nice and I should have no trouble connecting it and I'm impatient. I've also ordered a decarb kit, glass adapter and more flexicone+'s and baskets.

Soooooo a lot of people have asked how the MV compares to the Mighty? As things stand, I prefer the Mighty. I just find everything much quicker and easier on the Mighty, and the cloud production is better, and with less effort. Have to really pull on the MV hard to get decent vapour, on the Mighty it just flows through, much cooler and easier to inhale. The Mighty also has quicker heating times, is easier to load, holds temp better, and for me, hits harder and quicker. The only real advantage of the MV is the convection heating means you can take a puff and put it down again. Oh and it's much easier to clean, those baskets are a great idea. I have 'gone commando' a few times and just put herb in the chamber, which gave marginally better clouds.

Now this is not to say the MV can't hit hard, the end effect is pretty much the same from both vapes. But the harshness of the MV out of the box prevents me from taking really deep draws and getting the clouds I desire. I'm sure the accessories I'm getting are really going to help, and I'll have a much better experience through water. But this brings me to another point: the price. It's a shame it doesn't have something like the Mighty's CU to cool the vapour out of the box. It's £350 for a portable MV. £60 for the Orbiter, I know there's cheaper options. Then I spent another £75 on accessories. So that's £450-500 all in, without the option of using it from the mains. Mighty is half that price and doesn't need anything else.

To sum up, the potential is there for this to be an awesome vape, I hope the extra stuff I'm buying will unlock that for me. I'm looking forward to diving into the world of water tools, I've never used any before so it will be a new experience. I will report back with more of my findings.

@scottg402 that's the j-hook I will source after I run out of the ones I have now. I'll be interested to find out which one is more preferable.

@MinnBobber have you ever owned/experienced the VXL dry mouthpiece?

That one is $8 cheaper and similar so I'm wondering about the quality difference if any.

Whatever the case its still more than double the price of this here sherlock which I probably use more than my VXL dry....

http://silversurfervap.com/index.php/elev8glass/sherlock-mouthpiece.html
................................................................................................................

I have not tried a VXL dry mouthpiece.
The Sherlock is a J hook style so would come out sideways, not up and out like I wanted. So it would be a good choice for sitting in a chair, laying in bed and sipping.

The oregonglassblower (OGB) mouthpiece ended up being thinner diameter main tube than I expected--but that's fine. It is very well made, lighter than I expected which is also fine as it then stays hands-free on the miniVAP + Ratchett Song. On chest of drawers, just lean the mv/OGB combo over toward me and inhale.
For me, it seems like I get a more powerful draw action with this flared mouthpiece VS drawing thru a whip/ tube.

Plus, for special orders/ customization, OGB is tough to beat. Standard is about 7" long. I asked for slightly longer (about 8") and a larger radius bend in the tube. I also asked for a little more flare in the mouthpiece itself.
I might also try a little longer version, like 10", for when I sit in a chair and mV is on a stool. Or for using on my Herbie with it's Ratchett Song.

OGB is mighty quick for custom work too. Ordered on a Friday I think and shipped out Monday.
Also got a couple M/F adapters and a F/whip adapter

I prefer the Sherlock for sitting in bed yet I prefer the VXL for standing up, passing it around, ect.

I love how they both lock to the DonG with a K-Clip making it all one piece where you can pull up the whole top off and place it back easily for clearing the tube.

Some might prefer the shape and associated usage setup that is similar to the VXL but for budget conscious shoppers I haven't seen anything better than the Sherlock. I highly recommend you carry those Sticks!

They are both good choices but if I was looking for the VXL style I might be tempted to just go with the Oregon Glass one over the VXL and save the $8.

Damn guys! I have the following adapters already:

*14mm MV GonG
*18mm @Ratchett SonG
*14mm and 18mm full coverage DonG

But shit these look pretty and I always gotta support my boy @Ed's TnT..... The MV has become my most used vape at home and I like to play so you really got me thinking. I would like to see a picture of the blackwood too.

Still on topic with water connections....earlier today was the first time I used my 14mm DonG. I really don't get a lot of use out of my PWT anymore but I was blowing huge tasty clouds on blue and was pretty fucking impressed actually! I think I'll go back to that again soon.

Here is a shot....

Man the PWT is so light you almost don't notice it on top and the full coverage DonG seems pretty stable.

Question for @stickstones .....It's pretty clear you give up some stability for the beauty of the WonG but do you feel it's pretty stable and can it reliably support your glass? I am looking for an honest comparison versus the full coverage DonG which so far is my tops.

One of the reasons I never use the GonG is because I just cannot find a stable setup unless I use it with a whip in which case the Mini lies on it's side. That's pretty much like never for me. I think I tried it once and put the GonG away.

Edit:

All this talk about the MV has me going back for another session..

DSC_0590_zpsvzmbdceo.jpg

Here is how I'm rollin' through it....

*Start with a large basket medium grind goodies. Yes I said large! This is going to take awhile!

*blue- dry with the VXL mouthpiece

*blurple- move to the tamer

*green- move to the PWT. Huge clouds here! It's kinda nice using the PWT for taste and lack of diffusion as opposed to my 187 which gets a lot of play with my Mini.

As I finish this edit I am finishing this basket. I'm fucked up and the Mini's got clouds to spare and I haven't even hit red. Should have packed the Q basket like normal!
Hello...what is that piece under the PWT, and where did you get it? I forgot...have a PWT buried in a drawer. Thanks!

That's the DonG (Delrin on Glass) adapter.

I don't think it's currently available and I feel very fortunate to have one!

I was just using it a little while ago actually and noticed I can hold the Mini and clear the tube with one hand action. Pretty sweet!
Taste is nice too with very little water to rob the goodies.

One thing I also noticed is my Mini is running smoking (vaping) hot and it's in a good way if you like clouds! When the unit is on green or above I can clear the PWT completely and in a short period vapor will build up in the PWT and start leaking out the top. This is the teflon core model and it blows giant clouds compared to my first unit but also doesn't keep the taste as long. This one feels like it's just tuned a bit hotter than my old one did before it crapped out. I do love this thing but I don't know how I really feel about that.:hmm: I kinda miss the lasting flavor of my old unit but I'm sure others would gladly take the cloud production of the new unit.....

That looks like what I'd like...simple and portable water usage. Do you or does someone else know of easy connections for use of the PWT?

Because, btw, you're right. That DonG for PWT seems nowhere to be found.

You can use the Delta 3D SonG from @Ratchett but it's a two hand operation because the silicone is soft as compared to the delrin so its not as stable. I have one in 18mm but I think he makes one in 14mm too which would fit the PWT without any other adapters.

Edit: @DO, you are not going to find the DonG out there so don't waste your time. It was made by @mestizo but I'm pretty sure he is unable to create more at this point.

Like scottg402 said, Ratchett's Delta 3D Song works like a charm with hydratubes BUT it's at least a one hand operation. If mV is sitting on my vape stool, I can just place hydratube onto it/ lift off with one careful hand.
Picture below of mV + Song + hydraline hydratube. Laying down as it won't stand by itself.

I still use mine, all day every day, tobacco day and goodies after work. Mine stays on, no electronic controller just straight heater core wired to a battery(using a modded power adapter base, the battery eliminator they sell). I built a battery using 8 cells at 3.4 amp hour. They wired 2x paralleled and this makes one cell equivalent of double amp hour rating. Then these blocks of two get wired up in series to have four blocks creating the total voltage equivalent to the original mv battery of 17.8 at full charge. Use protect cells. This powers it beyond 22 hours but not past 24. I charge it still connected so my heater is on all time now. Tested since 2014 this way now. No lights to look at no buttons too. My heater core still works and my wait time is zero, like lighting a cig! Now ask how is the temperature controlled? It's physics only that control it. When the coil in heater is cold it draws lots of current which falls as it heats. The battery will only put out 2 amps or so because the heater only eats that much. This makes volts drop when cold and rise as it warms, current doing the opposite. The dynamics of this thus keeps core temp at round 230 Celsius. That's hot but not combusting. I have a mates mv whose core dilated and failed. He got a different vape now but will save for a new mv so I could mod it for him. I fixed it good enough to run an experiment. That is no battery just straight to power adapter! The core started to glow a bit, I left it for hours on whilst checking it. Not melting at all and it will combust tobacco like that! Yuck I not like combustion any more, but it will smoke if some dude wants!?!?!? Cannot see why! Thus the heater core here is second to none. I gave my volcano to my mate he likes it.

That's the power side. Now the chamber side..... I work on cars all day in my auto shop I run for a year now. So I put mv in a little bag with the battery wired to it( battery is also in bag). This allows me to pull it out of it's bag which is under my cover all to dump the spent tobacco and reload with no fingers touching tobacco. Vaping dirty motor oil and grease is bad! The chamber has metal decarb rings 2x one short on top of which sits the screen then the longer ring is on top of the screen to hold the screen in place then the small Teflon ring to hold it all together in the chamber. I dump my stuff from a small camera film tin into its chamber. Fill to top of the chamber. Close top on it and vape big clouds and big effect and great flavour. I have used mv since 2012 that way for the medicine and tobacco. Mine thus runs too hot for the plastic frame under the aluminium. That said it not melted it though.

Because it's hotter the they designed it to be it hits hard. As hard as sub does. I use the long whip silicone and this brings me to my cap.

The mv locking mechanism for its cap is weak and with fast off and on as one does in his car waiting at lights; filling fresh tobacco... They broke off! I ordered a new frame but fixed mine up whilst waiting for mr postie to bring it to me. It's solid now. Quick rip the top off and snapping it on does not pose danger anymore.

The top has the silicone type on with a shaped screen bucket laid into silicone cone upside down so the top is flush with the edges of the cone. I made a small aluminium pipe with a flared end and inserted it into the cone before I lock in the screen.
So to the aluminium I attach the silicone whip.

Now what I get is a mv in a man bag round my neck and then a tube sticking out ready and waiting! Play pinball and vape or turn bolts and vape, or ride bike and vape or paraglide and vape, tobacco ok, not dumb to medicate during those activities. Get it tho? Hands free big clods for over 20 hours...

I've used water tools too just plumb pipe to glass adapter into wt and go!

I like the hot throat hits tho and just mainly whip tube it. Wow it has made me healthy too! I still enjoy tobacco with minimal destruction and enjoy the green with confidence that it's better than tobacco. My mv went to Tokyo with me last April I was naughty and smuggled goodies in and had fun on plane and in japan, vaped out at night and was certainly higher than those on the plane! Did it in chair (window seat). No complaints from any one too like all my other 14 flights overseas since 2012.

Now I get my nic fix in the air like in the good old 80's and if I dare to bring some meds I get high in flight pass out and arrive like it shortens flight time! Get night flight sleep land and get on with business.

So far nothing tops mv for power and effect. Mighty is good but shuts off lots! Solo is flavour king so is air. Mflb is simple and tasty and vapor genie is emergency when vap stops. Only once did it stop, break in wire from battery, VG tied me over at workshop till I got time to make new wire, that was after japan too.

MiniVAP is the best, puts u on ur arse if it's loaded to top with great flowers! Makes one play like a novice on pinball! Interesting on sounds too! Mv is same as if one rolled a joint just minus combustion!!

I'm going to book a flight to Amsterdam later this year and I cannot wait to compare it to the old joints we smoked when I lived there. I'm Dutch and miss my canals and bike lanes and the good nederwiet!

Y'all enjoy your minivaps and so will I!

Just note I use mighty or solo or air when I go to bed since mv is charging for the next day.

Pick her up put in bag, then put bag over neck and under arm. Bang on over alls, load chamber with tobacco and jump my bike riding to work whilst I vape massive clouds till my last 2kms away. Then it thins till it dies at 100-500 meters from workshop. .

My only gripe with mv is it's big and heavy in this configuration. I have my air which I use when with friends in cigar lounge or bar.. My air= cigar my MV = bong/cig...

I just got my adapters in and will post the details soon. Mine are all 18mm, so an expander would be needed to use it with the pnwt.

Ok, gang...I've got some pics of the adapters from Ed. As always, he did a bang up job! I got twenty in stock (5 Cocobolo and 15 Blackwood) and plan to include ten of them with my colored MV's (Green and Gold) when they get here at a package price.

I am including a tin of Ed's Bomb Ass Butter to keep them in top shape and, more importantly, to use as joint grease so they don't get stuck in your gong's. I have had no issues with these adapters breaking anything, but early on with one of Mestizo's adapters I stripped the threads on my core unit, so I am paranoid about it. So everyone gets some butter!

I am including the adapter with butter, shipping and packaging for a total price for $40 CONUS. It ought to be fifty bucks, but I can't swallow that big of a price on a unit that is already expensive on its own. But thirty bucks becomes a losing proposition for me, so forty it is. I hope you guys are good with that price. On to the pics...

This one has all 5 Coco's and five Blacks. The two Coco's at the top have beautiful eyes on them.

Here's a close up of the ones with eyes.

This pic shows the same eyed ones, but note the black one at the top with its blonde highlights. Half the black ones have this nice character to them.

So for the past few weeks my daily driver has been my MV through my D020-D.

Last night, for the first time, I mated my MV to my D020-D but without any water. Just used it dry.

Whammmmmoooo !! :o Taking the same amount of hits at the same temp as I did previously with water, I got MUCH higher. Now the question is, is it because I'm not filtering through water, or is it just the change in "signature" as what happens when you alternate vaporizers or, as I suspect, a combination of both.

BTW, using the D020-D dry provided clouds that were even more thick and voluminous than it did with water and was just a tad harsher, if at all, and this was with taking hits that were just as big in both instances.

Edit: Nice pics, Sticks. ;)

I now use my MV mostly dry with a nice glass mouthpiece and feel the same way, @lwien !

In regards to surface area and how it contributes to condensation, I wonder if the total surface area of the D020-D (perks and all) is about the same as the VHX glass piece that you're using. Seems like it would be kinda close, eh?

But yeah, going dry, I give up a "little" smoothness but not enough to counter the increased high I get. I really thought the difference in smoothness would be more noticeable but that's not the case.

I start most of my sessions dry and finish through water so I never really get to tell the difference in feeling. What temps are you guys using? Are you changing in a session style like I do or do you take a certain number of draws and then turn it off?

In general, I start on green, then kill it on red. If my herb is top quality i'll start on blurple and work my way up. When I get a bubbler it'll pretty much be used just to tame vapour from the red setting i think.

lazylathe

Almost there...
I would have to be 95% dry.
Start on Blurple and usually end on Green when no more vapour is produced.
Red is too harsh dry except for slow sipping or with a WT.
I mainly use my MV when in bed so no WT's.

Been using my Cloud mouthpiece and @Ratchett SonG adapter.
Works really well just wish it was a firmer material but super easy to use!
