Underdog Log Vapes

XeroRespect

This too shall PAX...
As promised... the 4 sides of my Afzelia Burl UD. For some reason my digital camera wouldn't work but cell phone did OK. I can't help but smile every time I take it out.

Can't thank @underdog @underdogette and @Snappo enough for this beauty!

Well I don't have the picture of the blank but @Snappo supplied the golden white teak burl blank that was turned into my new UD's. I know teak wouldn't have been your first choice to work with @underdog and @underdogette but thanks for turning out such nice logs for me.

Here they are freshly turned - UD thought I'd be disappointed with their work when sending this picture, they even offered to work with @Snappo to procure another blank if I wasn't pleased. I don't know how I could be anything but thrilled with the craftsmanship!

Heya Dogs, been busy in the shop and not posting much.. trying to finish up the last of the custom sale pieces and then need to get to work on more pieces for a refresh since the site is starting to look a bit bare. :peace:

Hey all!

Just wanted to share a sneak peak at something I've been working on (slowly!) for the past month. A silicone 14mm female adapter for the Stainless Steel stem tips!

The female joint is a bit too loose for my liking, so I need to tweak the parameters slightly and reprint. But I'm VERY close to finishing!

Awesome adapter there man, glad to see you making stuff the UD! If we can help you out with anything to make your work easier just let us know.

Glad you like your Pups! I actually don't mind working with Teak Burl, it cuts real nice it's just a little hard to predict what you'll find inside with voids, etc and what the grain will try to push the shape into.

same shit different day my friend.

i have been using my dog daily and love it. oh and underdogette was all over replacing the incorrect extension that came with my dog. hit me up with IMs and tracking basically keeping me in the loop like it was a $1,000.00 order.

amazing product and service! for those of you on the fence about copping a dog... just do it already!

Lol, I keep forgetting to take pictures in widescreen mode, I'm pretty sure it's like 6 MP more, such a smartphone rookie. I thought about getting a few Y adapters for a vapor 5 way, but at some point you got to know when to say when... Who am I kidding we aren't talking about alcohol here, Y adapters on the list!

SSDD indeed..

Happy to hear you've been enjoying your Pup and that Underdogette got you squared away with the correct cable. Alright, time to 'clock out' for the day.. party on good sir, party on.

Time to relax ... oh yeah!

Nice portable setup you got there. I like the Dog too, one of my favorites, it wasn't fun to sand at all though!

Hello Underdogs! June already, wow! Am I the only one who feels like somebody keeps hitting the fast forward button on my time?

So... You all have written lovely reviews for us all over the interwebs, but we are finally going to add a review page to our website. :) Before we publicly link this on our website, we'd like to ask you kind folks to help us populate some reviews first.

If you'd like to help us out by leaving a review, please do so here: http://underdogvapes.com/reviews#add_review

Thanks so much UDs! Hope you're enjoying your week so far. :peace:

I was wondering if there is a way to get a guess of what temp my ud is at? I currently have the stock 12v supply, but I'm planning on upgrading to a vvps soon and wanted to have an idea of a conversion ratio to approximate temperature, or does it depend too much on the specific unit?

I was thinking maybe just getting my own reference and then having an ammeter measuring the current flow and at a specific voltage the current should be proportional in some way to the temperature and I could just tell temperature based on the current that flows at a set voltage ie how much current flows at 12v and the lower the current the higher the temp theoretically.

Basically I'm just wondering if someone's come up with a way to guesstimate what temp the ud is running at.

Thanks

Temperature is difficult to measure due to draw speed, etc, but if you're just looking to set your VVPS to the same voltage as your wall wart, then I believe I can help you there. If you've got one of the newer slim line wall warts that says product number 252833, then it is actually outputting 12.2-12.3 volts to your UD.

ETA: Just remembered you've got an Econo-Dog... I don't know the exact output voltage of this one right now (but I could find out), but please remember that this vape also has a 2.5mm plug and not a 2.1mm plug which is the standard for most accessories.

ETA 2: Looks like the Econo-Dog power supply outputs 21.4 volts.

Uh I don't think I have an econo dog... I have a 2.1mm plug on mine. Currently I have the stock wall wart which I was going to run into a buck boost converter to get voltage control and then just get a bare wire to 2.1mm adapter to the ud. I have a multimeter so I'll be able to measure the input voltage and output voltage to get an idea of the relative power compared to stock but I guess there's just too many variables to get a reliable temperature measurement. I wonder if there's a way to install a temperature sensor on the ud, though I'm sure that's not feasible at all haha.

Whoops, you're right! I got you mixed up with someone else. Ok, well the stock wall wart outputs 12.2 volts. I'll let Underdog answer the rest.

For point of reference the stock wall wart delivers 12.2v to 12.5v to the Dog.

You can definitely use a buck-boost converter to make yourself a VVPS, that's what we used when we were making the UD in-house ones a while back so no problem there.

As far as reliable temperature measurement yeah that's a tough one due to the simple design of the UD, the unique nature of each piece and the wide range of woods we use.

I have prototyped some Dogs with thermocouples to measure heat production in the core but the effective temp still varied significantly based on ambient temperature, size/shape/wood species of the vape, the style of the stem and it's screen placement, etc and the increased design complexity unacceptably raised the cost and lowered the reliability so we didn't pursue the idea further. :2c:

I wanted to write a quick message saying a huge sincere thank you to the underdog team. A few days after I posted a comment here in this thread about how cute the mini-dogs were and how I missed the x-mas sale last year, underdogette PM'ed me saying I was selected for a gift....A econo-dog to call my very own. I sent her my info and a few days later my package was here

Much to my surprise not only was there a beautiful econo-dog but they also sent me a mini-dog to play with!

I'm so thankful for their generous gifts. I plan on writing a review when I have some more time.

The underdog team has treated me like a paying customer answering all my questions and making sure I was all sorted out.

I would recommend their business to anyone and everyone!

thanks again underdog team

oh and my minidog literally looks exactly like one in this pic complete with darker mark and everything
