Herb Grinders

Startin' to use my small ti SpaceCase again. Nice little grinder.
That's what I've got, and overall I'm very happy with it. I like that I get a good fine grind. Perfect for the PD. However, for a while I was vaping daily with the wife and I was thinking the small SC was a bit too small. I was having to grind my herbs too often, and would be tempted to over-stuff the grinder. Now that I'm backing off my usage a bit, maybe 3x per week, I'm in a usage pattern that better suits this little grinder.

For anyone vaping the equivalent of 2 or more PD stems per day, I'd definitely recommend something larger than 2".

Thought I'd add my experiences in here....

Add me to the list of satisfied Space Case owners. I bought a 3-piece a few years back (wow, maybe it's even been more like 4 years by now!) and it's never let me down. I've only cleaned it a few times, and I've never found stuff it can't grind up - even if its with a bit of elbow grease. I put a whole in the screen with the kif scraper this past summer (stupid mistake) and as such decided to try and replace it.

I jumped on ordering some 3-piece grinders directly from MnB, and as they were having a sale I went in with 2 friends of mine and got 3 of them (it was a bit cheaper per grinder, the more you bought.) That was in August. I went at least 2 weeks without any communication from MnB. I got the first one or two automatic emails saying my order had been placed. Nothing more.

In response to me emailing them, somebody at MnB sent me an email telling me the grinders would "be available in 10 days," and would I like to wait. Okay sure, why not. Month goes by. Maybe two. Still nothing. Not even a shipping or in stock confirmation from MnB. Email them again. Nothing. Several more emails over the weeks, then months. Still nothing. Finally, a few weeks ago, I try to do a chargeback through my CC company. No dice! It's been too long! So now, I'm out $75 bucks and I have no grinder. Great, thanks a lot MnB. At the very least, I would have appreciated an email telling me I was being taken for my money.... :/

So, for the time being, the SC is still chuggin. :ninja: It lets a lot of herbal matter get down mixed in with the kif, but as I'm not using it in an extraction or anything I don't really care too much. It even seems like it makes it a bit easier to utilize, especially in my PD or SSV. :ko:

Hey guys my first post here. I'm new to vaping and have my first ever vape getting here Friday (Extreme-Q) and I really appreciate the huge wealth of knowledge about vaping I already have from reading the FC forums.

Anyway, I got my Chromium Crusher 2.25" in today. I've only had experience in the past with generic grinders and I have to say, this thing in unbelievably sharp. It grinds absolutely effortlessly into a nice fine grind. My only complaint would be that I wish the magnets were stronger, but all in all, I can't complain when it only cost me $17 shipped.

Wow....so i guess im out 35$, wow....MixNball is basically stealing that money, and admins can't say otherwise, since it is happening to anyone who does purchase anything from that site. I bought the three piece one, and haven't heard from them in a months. Already tried disputing the transaction, but again ^ it might be too late. PLEASE DON'T BUY FROM MIXNBALL OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR MONEY.

Sorry to hear that Jofroxp, if your still looking for a inexpensive but quality grinder I highly recommend:

http://cgi.ebay.com/5-piece-63mm-Po...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item45ef6e3dc0

I recommend looking into this guy and he is mentioned somewhere else in this thread as well, if your still interested in a grinder, he has some neat stash jars too.

Here is his main ebay shop page:

It sounds like I am shilling for the guy but I am sorry for your issues and am just offering an alternative and from a vendor that I have used. Its worth looking into.

Haven't posted in this thread so I thought I'd add: I've had a medium sized Space Case for over a year (and a 2" one for years prior to that) and absolutely love it. The grind is the perfect size for me, the kief-catcher is amazing, and I feel like I'm never wasting anything.

On MixnBall, I got a member a refund a few months ago, but since then communication has dried up. While I agree that no one should order anything from the MB site at this point (he's not shipping anything now), if he was just intent on stealing people's money, he'd be listing all the products as 'in stock' and would be accepting orders on everything. The Triple Screen has been listed as 'out of stock' for months, and the Double has been off the site entirely for at least as long. As far as I know, nobody knows what's going on, except that the owner is ruining the brand's reputation. Personally, I'd like to see the company under new ownership.

Well thats funny, because I ordered my triple screen on 12/22/09, and it was 'IN STOCK' on the website, and "Dan" the "owner" of MixnBall responded to my emails about residence changes after about 2-3 weeks. Here is what gets me though. Because emails CAN be messed with, please note that this is just at face value....I don't have a reason to complain or lie about the service Mixnball has to offer, I just hope my experience helps another person. The reason for my belief that he could just be shanking people now, because well he lied to me. I emailed "Dan" about how much time it would take for his product to be shipped to my place. He said that first it would take TEN days for the next shipment to arrive from China, and then he would be able to ship it. As you can see, 10 days from 12/22/09 has long been gone, and so has this "Dan." Why wouldn't he just jack some of the money from orders over the months and leave after being relatively profitable for a long time, or still be getting the money and not even selling the products? If I am not mistaken, many CEO's have been bankrupting companies for their own profits; I have a easier time believing that Dan could have just left with all the dough, then just some "TROUBLE" in the company; or he could just be receiving the payments, and continue to con people naive enough to order from that sketchy site LIKE ME. It seems to me that he did just that, probably looking at his emails on a sunny beach, laughing while he deletes them...In this world and day n age, I wouldn't be the least surprised. NOT sorry if my assumptions were negative, but it seems to me that other customers and I have gotten the short end of the stick. Since most people give too much faith into these "online companies" like myself, it doesn't seem too out of the box. If I am wrong and everything has to do with trouble in the company, thats still not an excuse to cut all the customers that have paid, left hanging. Banks reimburse, but doesn't he get to keep our money? Just curious if it were possible, not that Dan is doing this.

On a lighter tone,

I do have a SC Medium TiT, and it works really well for grinding, daM best I have ever tried. The catcher is superb, and the quality of it is definitely IMO supreme over all the other ones that I have used "sharpstone, etc." For a grinder though, its price tag is pretty hefty, but you can of course get discounts on sites like (gratefulbuys, GREAT customer service), and if taken care of will last you ages.

My bad, I didn't read your post, I just responded to Max. Guess I'm not the only person that got lied to. I also received emails regarding to ten days wait, except that "someone's" name is Dan, and he said the same thing to me, but told me it would take TEN days to ship from CHINA. So I disputed the transaction through my bank, and they reimbursed me right on the spot; and they will also investigate why I have not received any funds back, or any product. When I get word from my bank, I will forward it to here. I hope some miracle happens to you PRK, cause I would be pretty damn upset if I lost 75$ because this douche mayhap went to jump ship. I have every right to call him a douche, because thats what douches do; of course I have to add IMO.

In truth, you do not know who you were actually speaking too. If the company is this bad I would not be surprised if they sign any name.

Shame a quality product gets this kind of tarnish. Hopefully things will turn around.

Damn, that's not a half-bad idea... I also have a Space Case and have had it for years. Loved it, until I recently put a hole in the screen, which prompted this (attempted) purchase! Probably end up just buying another one of those...

Wow that's a shame to hear that this seems to be happening to everyone... For what it's worth, everything WAS listed as in stock when I ordered - they were even running a promotion where the more grinders you bought, the cheaper they got per unit! Shame some jerk has to run their reputation into the ground.

Sucks man... Good thing you got your money back, too bad I wasn't so lucky. Wish I hadn't waited to long to pursue it, damn. For what it's worth, the "person" I "spoke" to is named "Lee." Maybe it's just another name that "Dan" uses, who the hell knows.

Look, I'm not going to argue about time lines. And there's nothing about this situation that's funny. My point was that it doesn't make sense to take more expensive models off the site (Double Screen), and list the highest priced item (Triple Screen) as 'out of stock', if the intent is just to rip people off. The owner (who's name is Idan, shortened to 'Dan'-probably for marketing purposes) is obviously not trustworthy, thus my statement that I'd like to see new ownership. It's clear enough at this point that nobody should order from MixnBall, and we're not going turn the thread into an endless bitch session about the company. He's got some of my money too, but I'm not going to complain about it. If people want to continue to bitch about this unfortunate situation, they can start the 'bitch thread' in the Lounge. This thread is about info, and until there's something new to say about MixnBall, it serves no purpose to post more complaints here.

I just got this grinder yesterday. Its a sharpstone 1.5 inch 4 piece. When I first got it and opened the packaging I was so amazed to see how small it actually was. I mean this thing is TINY and still managed to be a 4 piece keif collecting grinder. The build quality is very good using some sturdy metals. probably aluminum. Once i got some herb in it thats when it started to show off. The teeth are very sharp and it does an amazing job at grinding your herb. Quite a bit of keif was produced considering I only ground about 2 grams. Overall for 18 bucks, this thing was more then worth it considering its quality and effectiveness.

Man, and here I thought my 1.77" SpaceCase was tiny. I don't think I'd want it any smaller though. Think it would be too tough to handle.

My thoughts exactly... Gonna retire my 2.25" sharpstone and pick up a 3"-4" grinder real soon. That 1.25" one looks real good to be out and about with.

here is a handy little review for someone interested in picking up a grinder.

Background:
I had currently been using a "sweetleaf" herb grinder since about 2002.
imagekgn.jpg

imageksc.jpg

Nothing is wrong with it, none of the "nails" fell out, it wasn't that hard to clean... but the action was never that smooth, and it had no kief collection. Now when I say no kief collection, I mean no separate kief collection - a lot of kief was generated from grinding, but it invariably found its way back onto new bud as it got ground up. The cycle would continue until the rim would get so gunked up that I had to clean it. And as for cleaning, it was mostly scraping - you can't soak wood in alcohol. And as the wood was porous, I'm sure I lost some kief to the grinder itself. Anyway, I wanted an upgrade.
Now I had been on the fence about what to get. I knew I didn't want another wood grinder, and I didn't want an acrylic grinder. I wanted a metal one, and I wanted it to be a combination grinder/sifter. There were a handful of $20 grinders with "names" on them: Aerospace, Sharpstone, Chromium Crusher, Titanium Crusher... Then there were some $30 grinders like MixN'Ball. Then there were $50 grinders like Mendo Mulcher, and then there was the $90 Space Case.
I had heard plenty of good things about Space Case, but the price was just too much. I almost got a medium titanium one from Gratefulbuys on ebay for $75 shipped, but the dude Brendon was the biggest idiot I've dealt with and after a month I still hadn't received it. I asked for a refund. I had a friend who had a mendo, and although it has lots of teeth, I have heard from some people that lots of teeth just mean you need to break the bud up more before you can put it in. I looked at the MixNBall, but the only real thing I saw that I liked on it was the "organic" coating to prevent scratching. So I found myself back down in the $20-something grinders.
I thought about the chromium crusher, for about $17 on ebay, but I wasn't sure if it was steel-zinc with a coating, or chromium with a coating, or aluminum with a coating, so I scratched it off. I thought about sharpstone, but I remember a vague story of someone who said the teeth broke off in their sharpstone; I don't know if its true, but I nixed that one as well. I considered the Titanium crusher, but I wasn't sure if this was a knock off of the Chromium crusher, and I thought a knock-off of a knock-off might be a gamble. So I settled on GotVape's Aerospace in 63mm (medium).

Pictures
imagekkt.jpg

$24 - 15% FC discount brought it to $21 shipped. It arrived in a small box, wrapped in cellophane; no fancy little cloth baggy, but that's ok. It was coated in some sort of black paint. I dont think it is anodized, but it may be powdercoated. The top edge had a hatching on it similar to the stippling on Space Case. At this point (besides the name) I realized how much of a copy this is to Space Case. However, unlike Space Case's "purplish" titanium coating (t may be black, but in some photos it looks purple), this was just a black surface coating.
imageew.jpg

It has a teflon ring around the top grinder section so you don't have any metal-on-metal scraping, prolonging the service of your unit. There is a nice strong magnet in either side of the top section holding the lid on very securely. The inside had the same number of teeth as the Space case, even the same layout it seemed. The only difference I might note is that from pictures it looks like the teeth in the space case are rotated in a staggered arrangement: the evens number teeth around the circle are tilted clockwise aiming a little inward, and the odd number teeth are tilted counter clockwise aiming a little outward. I could be mistaken though, but the Aerospace has all the teeth aligned directly on the circular path they follow. The center hub and inner walls of the grinder also had the same design as Space Case.
imageqyd.jpg

However, one design flaw I noticed was that the outer row of holes was very close to the outer wall.
I'll get back to this in a bit, as the explanation does better with another picture. Two and a half turns of the second part (the bottom of the grinder), and you have it off from the collection area. Here is the underside of the second part, you can see there is a slight dome in the middle which holds the magnet below the surface on the other side.
imagejo.jpg

Now here is what to note - the outer row of holes is very close to the outer wall, and note the threads on the wall. These threads are on the inside of the wall. Now imagine the piece below this, the third piece down. It will have threads on the outside of its wall to join with these threads. This means the wall of the third piece sits inside a bit from those threads in the second section. And therefore, the wall of the third piece kinda runs right into the holes above it. So anything that falls into the outer row of holes is actually sitting partially on the top wall of the third section. Here you can see the top wall of the third section, and how it is thick enough to overlap some of the outer row of holes.
imageewr.jpg

The walls of this collection area are slightly sloped at the top, and vertical near the bottom. I like this design, it makes sure that kief is directed away from the outer edge of the kief collection chamber. Note that this ground-herb collection area is very deep- plenty of room to store a bunch of herb and very nice in regards to the space.
You'll also notice they included a plastic triangle, just like Space Case. If you store this in the collection area above the screen it will help to knock loose more trichromes so your kief collects faster. You can then use it to scrape the kief area on the bottom. Space Case says theirs is 'precision engineered' but this one looks like it was just injection molded. It is indeed flat on all the sides to aid in scraping, but the corners are just a wee too sharp to actually contour to the edge of the kief collection area, which are slightly more rounded.
Here is another shot of the middle chamber.
imagenrn.jpg

You can see that a few trichromes are sticking to the wall. I'm not sure how well anodizing or titanium Space cases repel trichromes, so you can make your own assessment, but I think that powder coating gives an even distribution of coating that problably helps in some way over bare aluminum.
Two complete turns and the bottom section (the fourth) is separated from the third. The threads are nice and tight with little play or 'jiggle'. Here is my kief collection from some really dank stuff I just ground. I only ground about .15g, and had the triangle in the middle compartment. Not too bad. I'm happier collecting this stuff than losing it to the wood.
imagetam.jpg

Here is the underside of the third section. What you can see here is that edge of the metal screen is actually fused into some sort of hard plastic ring. (I believe on SC they have it fused to a metal ring.) The ring is tight up against the edge of the wall, and secured above (or below, depending on your orientation) the threads with a small o-ring. When the fourth section is screwed onto the third I see no place for kief to hide in any little cracks or crevices. The screen is very fine. I don't know how to gauge how fine it is, but it doesn't look like it could let very much plant material through. I'm very happy with the hole size in the screen since too big and you get too much plant matter, but too small and you reduce your kief collection. Also I hear that smaller screens tend to get gummed up faster, so we'll see.
imagebjh.jpg

Thoughts and impressions.
PROS:
The teeth are very sharp, I have no lack of faith in their ability to shred.
I like the teflon ring.
I like the black coating, I think it helps in some way keep kief from sticking.
I like the large middle storage area.
I like that they included a little triangle scraper
I love the price point. I still have a lot more money for herb. And even if this thing gets lost/stolen/broken I can replace it, and it hasn't broken my wallet.

CONS:
Fit an finish wasn't 100%
- I noticed a small divot on the inside (side, not the edge) of one of the teeth. Not so much to weaken it, but visually it detracts.
- I also noticed a lack of black finish on inside of the top piece. It was a small swipe about 1mm wide by 1cm long on the outer track, like it was worn away by teeth in the bottom half of the grinder - but no paint was missing from the tops of any teeth in the bottom of the grinder, and there was DEFINITELY no contact with teeth now.
- I also notice that the magnet in the bottom of the grinder had a surface imperfection. Nothing more than a visual blemish, no affect on function.
- The triangle scraper had a blemish on one of the edges, where it looks like an attachment tab was broken off.
- The corners of the triangle scraper were not contoured to the rounded corners of the bottom section where kief collects.

Well, some people say you get what you pay for. George Carlin would say, 'No, you get what they give you.' But in this case I feel that for $21 I got a good deal. I think that there are some good things to say about this grinder/sifter, and there are only a few visual blemishes that detract from the quality. But the price for the value is outstanding. It may not be a Mendo or a SC, but it shreds herb just fine. I upgraded my $12 grinder from 9 years ago to a better model, and I'm happy with that.

That concludes my review of the Aerospace grinder.
