How does the Crafty compare to the Solo/Air? is the price worth it for a crafty over the other two?

Depends what your requirements are, I never had a solo but do have an air, both have areas that they beat the other in IMO, for battery and battery life the air wins but for heater and draw restriction the crafty wins.

Also how its used will play a part, my crafty is mine for me alone (not for sharing) but my air gets passed around like a cheap whore

Lots of other things to consider but IMO these are the basics

If the crafty had a user changeable battery IMO it wouldn't even be a contest but it doesn't, both are great vapes and one will suit one person better than the next depending on preference.

Seriously. If the battery was user replaceable, and I could have a fully charged battery ready to go, it would be a God-send. It would really put the Crafty on another level.

Yeah I've said it before and heard it a lot, but my thinking is if I say it enough times while clicking my heels together maybe a battery door will appear

I mean I understand why they chose not to (user error/bad quality battery going boom) but all they had to do is the same as arizer with the air, state that only their battery is to be used and using others will void warranty, then it's our choice and they cover themselves, win win.

In a way it almost feels like they are punishing us because there are idiots in the world that might do the wrong thing

I say give natural selection a go and give us a battery door!

Unless you are are doing 3 back to back sessions, which would still more than likely cause overheating, I don't see the big deal of having an interchangeable battery when there is an external battery pack available which I use in the rare occasions I am not close to another power source like my house or car. Now don't get my wrong the interchangeable battery would be a plus, but not a deal breaker for me

Valid point, but with a powerbank you still have to wait for it to charge, with extra fully charged battery's with you it would mean you could be out all day with no waiting for charging, and the option of charging more than one at a time, charging four batteries in a few hours that will last a good while compared to worrying about do I need to charge? How long will it take?

The other and main thing for me is when my battery needs changed I have to send it to S&B (a lot more hassle than opening a door and putting a nice new one in, not to mention having to be without it for a while (not an issue unless it's your only vape)

Non of this was a deal breaker for me (I still have one and love it) but it means I'm not happy using it the way I would like to, so instead of it being the first vape I reach for I use it less than I would like to, not a big deal but for me it stops it being my go to vape

Edit: just to add my unit has never overheated or had any popups, but I do give it 5 minutes between bowls. FW 2.05

Many situations would benefit greatly from an extra battery over a battery pack to charge.

It's not good for a battery to both charge and discharge at the same time, so the hour plus you have to charge the Crafty is time that using it isn't a good idea.

When taking my Crafty to music festivals, I'd rather not have to carry around my battery pack, it's heavy.

So ya, clearly not a deal breaker for me since I own a Crafty, but just something that would really take it to the next level.


Edit: And towards the end of my large solo bowls, I will get the message that pops up saying the battery temp is too high, and to let it cool down. I haven't actually had it turn off by itself though. But it seems the battery is the main thing that overheats. So having a cool battery would be helpful.

So I'm at 15 hours of usage and everything's been going great. Still love the crafty as much as I did on day 1 so either this is a long honeymoon period or it truly is a great vape for me. Using other portables, while still enjoyable, they don't give me the satisfaction that my crafty does.

I did nearly have a meltdown last night though... When i turned the crafty on it went into heating mode for all of 2 seconds before indicating it was at temperature. I turned it on/off a few times and every time it would fail to heat up. Thankfully the 10 second button press reset everything and it appears to have fixed the problem. Just wondering if this is something anyone else has noticed and if it may be the start of a larger problem?

I do have back ups but I'd be lost without my crafty. It's the one that's finally made me fuck combustion. Hopefully it's a non-issue and I'm worrying for nothing.

So it seems like the hours of operation counter counts the time charging but I could be wrong, anyone know anything about this?

I'm probably wrong but my theory was that it tracked usage and seemed to round to 15 minute intervals (because I do only one session at a time, never take more than 10 minutes, but seem to get 4 sessions for each hour reported).

That would make sense, I also power through each bowl in about 10 min, I'll have to keep a closer eye on that and check it.

I have been using a different vaporizing strategy, and so far I have enjoyed some power sessions with plumes a plenty. Not that Plenty. plenty.

Back to Storz and Bickel products...... Huhh?

Here's the strategy: grind up 3/4 of your overall intended session weight.

For the first round of grinding, use a Santa Cruz shredder. Get it fluffy.

Pack it all the way up. Roast at 350-370. Don't let it get too far. Just when you are really milking it at a certain temperature, pull out. Lol.

My theory is that it's slightly dehydrated, so it will crumble down into a powder effortlessly with a few twists. Smaller grind size typically equals denser drags, but it kills the load a little quicker. I also realize this method might get the Crafty dirtier a little quicker because of the finer particulate matter. I'm cool with it, it really improves the sessions to incredibly satiating where I'm fuckin floored.

Sorry, back to the idea. After a few nice drags around 360-375 dump the whole load out into the orange Storz and Bickel grinder.

Now, supplement freshness and add in the final 1/4 of your original "investment"

You should get a few more delicious tasting puffs accompanying considerably larger plumes. I usually do 3-4 large drags at 375, then I go for the gusto up to 410 for an additional 3-4 fucking enormous rips. Then I'm spent.

Give it a try, if you've got the time, and you've got the goods.

75% for the first pack ground fluffy Shredder style. Next, dump the original vaping load into the orange S&B and grind it fine. Add in the fresh 25% you set aside, add all that shit back into the chamber, go to vapor heaven.

so the last 2 bowls tasted like firework powder or somethin. I couldn't find any damage. has anyone else experienced this weird taste before?

i think there was no such a complain in this thread - fireworkpowder. Try to vape different weed or first warm the crafty with empty bowl and take a puff - taste the device without weed - you´ll see if the problem is in your device or your material.

and what does it mean that it had worked fine before ? You´re sure that your unit is faulty ? so why are you asking? If you cleaned your crafty , tried it with different herb and you´re still getting weird taste send your unit to Storz-Bickel

I have sent in my CY8174 unit as it was always overheating which was a pain in the butt. I had about 50 hours on it and after every single session, the Crafty would be unbearable to hold. Also, when the unit got too hot, the vapour was extra hot and the air path was clogged due to it. Hopefully they're able to replace my Crafty with the new 2.07 firmware.

To be honest what I dont understand is why they dont allow you to just download and update the firmware by plugging it in usb to pc.. This is like the first device I have where you just cant update it. even if it has the connection..

The most likely reason for this is that the changes in the firmware reflects the changes on the hardware.

The Fc Cake is just lovely! They look like a cute couple.

@Stinky Ah man now I hope mine breaks so I can get the updated version.... Looks much more sturdy. I assume we're looking at the thicker plastic right? Or have I missed something else?

It's great that S&B are making improvements but it sucks when you missed out on those improvements by a few weeks... Oh well, you win some you lose some. Still happy, though I was under the impression that these changes had already been made? "The Crafty units we stock are the new 2015 release, with improved firmware and moulding."

I noticed my tem was already on 210. However I still get the same white walling and lots of smoke with 185-190 C.
