FlowerMate Vapormax V/V5.0/V5.0S/V5 Pro

OK disagree with me, I can't force you to be right
That makes sense. I thought maybe power only went out, not in, through the USB port. Local Radio Shack here I come.

Well, yes actually. The full size USB port is to charge your cellphone or whatever. The mini USB port is to charge the Mini.

I like mine very much. Ceramic chamber can hold up to .25gm if packed into a puck. Full temp control for great flavor or big clouds. Easy maintenance. Quickest heat up time - 8 seconds. Long charge. And if 19 more join the Massdrop you can get it for $90.

Thanks I live in New Zealand so doubt i'd qualify for this massdrop tho?

I read earlier about using cotton in the oven as a base for vaping oils or maybe waxes. Has anyone tried this in the Flowermax vapes? How well does it work, compared to using a vape designed for oils/waxes?

Hmm, so only the cable that came with the Mini will do. Not a USB to USB cable.
The good news is I left it in my son's car and he returned it to me today.

Ok guys, sorry to be a pain but the maze of various Flowermate products is really frustrating, and is causing me to not find clear info.

Massdrop has the Flowermate 5 Pro at a pretty reasonable discount (so it seems to my untrained eye, anyway.) I just have some questions about the device:

- Durability? Anybody had one break on them? And if so, how was warranty/refund stuff handled? Well?

- Air path? Maybe I am an old school FC user at this point but back in the day, kids, air path used to be a major concern. How does everyone feel about the long-term health safety of this device? (And no, I'm not making assumptions just because it's Chinese, I'd ask the same questions of any device.)

Thanks for any info you can give. Again, these are questions specifically pertaining to the Flowermate 5 Pro, not any of these other devices with almost the same, but slightly different, names.

Hey guys, recently grabbed the FM5 Pro off PuffitUp, it was pretty great with the discount and free grinder :)

Anyway I'm liking the device so far...when it works. What I mean by this is draw resistance is STRONG and my mouth gets physically tired from pulling so hard - unless the mouthpiece 5-hole and filter are completely clean, then it's better.

But still, having to clean the screen from resin/residue and the mouthpiece after every use is such a drag.

I feel like I'm never getting enough vapor, is there a fix to this? I tried removing the screen completely, the herb would just get sucked inside the 5-hole mouthpiece and clog the holes up.

Do I have to drill a hole in the mouthpiece and remove it completely? Will this affect the constant "set" temp since you will be pulling very easily if you drill the mouthpiece setup right off making the temperature not accurate.

Or are there any other tactics to how to draw from this thing? It's literally mouth gymnastics how hard I try. My first method is just to pull slowly for 10-15 seconds which is a drag. The second is sucking it in "shisha" style and just taking deep inhales quickly while a bit of the vapor comes out of the cooling holes.

Pls help, I love this device but that draw resistance...

There are a number of posts some pages back about mods some users have developed to improve draw. I have a v5pro and a v5.0 single temp FM. I don't really have an issue with draw personally. I pack moderately finely ground herb with the blunt end of the provided tool to help prevent loose herb flying up into the holes and to more evenly heat it up. Yes, the little filter with fine holes gets clogged with resin and fine flakes but you should have several of them to rotate into the unit while others soak in alcohol. All vaporizers require cleaning. It's just part of tool maintenance from my perspective, but I understand how it can seem onerous.

If the screen is getting clogged after every use it sounds to me like you need to tamp the load down and not suck so hard. If the material is tamped down and stays down it should not clog the screen.

To completely avoid a clogged screen a tuft of cotton ball on top of the tamped load will do that.

I drilled out the center hole a little for better air flow, but I think your main problem is that you're trying to use a portable like it's a much bigger home vape, with a much more unrestricted air path. You shouldn't draw so hard. You can get good vapor hits with sips. Trying to take your hit in a quick deep 'lung hit' isn't the way to go.

As for herb collecting on the mouthpiece screen, it's normal with this design. I've been dealing with it for years, and it's really not a big deal. You can just brush off the mp screen any time you take it off. A serious cleaning with alcohol isn't needed that often.
I feel like I'm never getting enough vapor
If you're drawing so hard your mouth gets tired then you may be shorting yourself. You can lower the vaping temp quite a bit with a hard, heavy hit. OTOH you may have unrealistic expectations of the vapor production of a pocket vape. I've been using this type of portable for quite a few years, and I really have no complaints with the FM. I do recommend enlarging the center hole in the restrictor plate a bit, but if you use the correct technique, sipping instead of trying to gulp your hits, then enlarging the hole isn't really necessary.

I recently got a FM5 and I find hitting hard hits (?) is wrong way to smoke, you need to sip slowly but steady, and softly, I came from combusting a lot and you really get used to hitting hard on the pipes and bongs lol but this thing is different. Also, I've had it for 2 weeks and I feel I get higher now than the first days of use so, keep on it!

I would really like the same system as the mini tho, where the air flow comes from the bottom of the unit, so it's easier to adjust the draw resistance, but maybe in a few months I get the courage to open my device and drills some holes.

you're exactly right! slow and steady wins the race (and gets more medicated hehe). I haven't needed to mod my device unless its the bottom screen in the FMv5.0s, changing it to a Arizer solo screen was the best decision of my life

Buy a simple bowl screen at any headshop, cut it so it fits in to replace the original screen, won't clog up as fast

Not sure how stupid a question this is but how hard would it be to remove the flowermate logo and wordings for stealth reasons? Don't have my mini yet, curious if this is even possible

Hey guys, I was wondering if there was an easy way to remove the logo from these vaporizers? I just received the mini. "Vaporizer Technology" is not particularly stealthy... Thanks!

I just took a black felt pen and blacked out the logo. It helps to go back over it a time or two after it's dry. You can still see the logo, but it's much less obvious.

Chronic vapaholic
I had little time lately and spent it beta testing new vapes for other companies, so sorry for the late catching up, this will be a grouped answer to posts from the previous 5 pages...

(re: better vapes in the same price range) Butane based vapes, the Firewood, I honestly prefer the DV over the FM series. XMAX, Imag+, NO2 even.

I still prefer the FM5-Pro over my Firewood, and I think I like it more than my Ascent now. I'm surprised you cite the XMAX, as the V2 Pro version I received for testing doesn't have a good taste... it feels super bland in no time and the vapor is way too hot (like in all these pen style vapes with a tiny vapor path)

I'm guessing I have different taste buds then you Kero, because I'll be damned if the background flavor on the Flowermates ever disappeared. The stronger flavors did but I still taste the unit, its not as pure as the Hammer, VaporGenie, Vapman, or Firewood. Even the DV tastes better IMO.

But how much did you use it? When I received my first FM5-S I used it as my alternating daily driver (meaning several bowls daily with it) I tend to have really sensitive taste buds too and in both the Pro and the S I can't detect anything off now. I can detect more off tastes (mostly silicone) with my Ascent that is older.

What I mean is that maybe you haven't used it enough to completely season it? I have some vapes I didn't use much and they might not have reached their full potential because of that (HD, FM8 for instance) But I don't know...

Do you hand fill to the top and tamp down? How hard do you tamp?

I never fill to the top, I load between 0.06g and 0.12g max and I tamp just enough to make the top of the puck flat and prevent particles from flying around. But you should try different amounts of tamping and see for yourself. If you feel it adds too much restriction, just open the bowl and stir it a bit.

But in all my conduction vapes, I have better vapor production when the puck makes contact with both the bowl walls and the bowl bottom. If you don't tamp you usually only have partial contact with the walls and the load rises up, losing contact with the bottom.

I know it's counter intuitive because there's no heating element on the bottom, but this part still gets hot enough to add some extra conduction heating, and it makes a difference. You also have to be careful not drawing too hard or shaking the device too much or it will move the puck.

If I am tamping, it sounds like I am loading a whole lot more than my desired .05g.

Irregardless of tamping the extraction is the same and vapor production is the same in the long run. Its not that the unit doesn't make clouds it's that it doesn't extract fast enough or well enough for my standards. A clear limitation in temperature and vaporization method.

Well you can load 0.05g and tamp, this is what I do all the time. But I think we are touching one of the biggest problems I see on this forum: there are two broad kinds of users here, those (mostly Americans) who come from a bong/water tool/glass pieces background, and those (mostly Europeans) who come from a spliffs background.

We tend to have completely different expectations and this is why some people report being competely happy with a given vape when others will report it's under powered.

So I understand what you mean, and I never claimed the FM5 series were power monsters. They are nice for sippers but probably less for rippers. Btw mate, I think you will love the RBT Zion knowing how much you enjoy your Firewood. To me it's a Firewood on steroids with added integrated variable power... but I'm derailing!

Why do I need to pack for the most recent models and not for the older ones? Beats me. But I am still pretty happy with these models.

Good question. The higher the temperature the less you *need* to tamp I noticed. For instance in my HD which has the bowl upside down, the puck tends to lose contact with the bottom often, and at low temps I can see a noticeable drop in vapor production. But when I set it to high temps, it's less problematic...

I think overall you always benefit from tamping, but it's more obvious when you do lower temps.

- Durability? Anybody had one break on them? And if so, how was warranty/refund stuff handled? Well?

- Air path? Maybe I am an old school FC user at this point but back in the day, kids, air path used to be a major concern. How does everyone feel about the long-term health safety of this device?

Very few failure reports for now. I wouldn't count on the warranty though... shipping costs back to China are prohibitive.

For the air path it's mostly ok. The majority enters via the holes on the body sides (path of least resistance) but some amount might come from the device internals nearby. Note at this point it's supposed to be relatively cold air, at most luke warm, so unless the Li-Ion starts venting it should be safe. Then you have this bloody polyimide tape insulation around the bowl, it's responsible for the robot fart smell when the device is new. It surrounds the bowl so it's not exactly in the air path but it's close. Afterwards you get the ceramic bowl, the nickel screen, some exposed silicone on top of the bowl, then the mouthpiece (again nickel alloy).

Anyway I'm liking the device so far...when it works. What I mean by this is draw resistance is STRONG and my mouth gets physically tired from pulling so hard

Sorry dude but you are doing it wrong! Sip it gently, the slower the better. It's not a convection vape, you don't need a lot of air movement to extract. You just let the heater cook the load, vapor escapes slowly and you sip that away. Pulling too hard will just overwhelm the heater exchange capacity. This is portable device not a desktop.

Not sure how stupid a question this is but how hard would it be to remove the flowermate logo and wordings for stealth reasons? Don't have my mini yet, curious if this is even possible

Well, just put two stickers on it and call it a day! I wouldn't scratch it though, the coating is very thin and you'll uncover the aluminium below easily.

I compared my full size V5.0s to my Mini and really found no difference in their draw. Both have a nice easy pull as long as the mp screen is not clogged. I found that by putting a thin cotton wad on top of the load keeps the mp clean for a few sessions before the cotton gets saturated with sticky gunk. I'm saving these up and should be able to get some good vaping from all the juice. I grind my herb very fine so I also put cotton in the bottom of the chamber to stop the powder from clogging the bottom screen. I'd rather do this than start drilling out and/or tearing out the original screen. Flowermates are great and don't deserve the bad rap they're getting for hard draws when all you need to do is keep them clean.

Sorry guys, I apologise for not reading through everything properly...

Has anyone tried using aceton Like the guy in this video?

I'm gonna try going over it with a marker, but from experience I think it will just rub off... Stickers are always an option but I'd prefer to just have it gone.

Edit: Tried the marker, wasn't working good enough, you can still see it clearly
Edit2: If no one has tried aceton yet, I will go get some and try it out. I'll let you guys know ;)

@KeroZen It's just a taste from the Flowermate when not in use that I taste, it's not like inhaling from an empty UD Hammer or Firewood stem those are pretty pure in flavor. I've used the Flowermate at least 10 times a day for the first month, the Mini after a few weeks in is the same flavor. Other Flowermate's I've tried had that FM flavor too. It is great for sipping and light to medium hits. Are you using the FW with UD accessories I don't even bother with capsules.

I have a question about stems. Specifically does this one fit the Mini?
http://www.puffitup.com/Flowermate-Universal-Adapter-p/fm09.htm

TIA

I just got my Mini, and am pleasantly impressed with it. I've read back a couple dozen pages (to before it came out?) and find no mention of this. The PIU site doesn't list the Mini, but that could be an update on the web page issue? I've decided to order a replacement stem as it seems it's a drop away from sudden death and it seems you need a factory seal and metal parts to complete an Ed Stem version......which is calling me....

Thanks again. About time to see if the first load was a fluke or not..........

I know this is a long shot but has anyone had dealings with jolingtech.com? Apparently selling the Pro for $70 + $25 shipping and take paypal but they seem kinda shady?

I wouldn't even consider them normally however the Vnice sales rep told me they are sold out and not getting anymore and Smiss seemly doesn't have much of a clue when it comes to customer service.. Every other online store I can find really works out considerably more expensive like $150 including shipping quite a price increase when I could have got this for under $100 before. :hmm:
