I've done that and it does not solve the problem with overheating. Should overheating not be a problem? Is my unit faulty? Is the battery pack an effective solution for your Crafty?
Maybe not regarding the overheating, I was just thinking about battery life sorry! I don't think I lean on mine as hard as you do, but it sounds like your overheating issue may indeed be a question for s&b

I noticed that when the unit/vapour gets too hot, the draw resistance becomes unbearable (At least for me). Have any of you guys noticed this as well? Also, how long can your Crafty vape at high temps (400F~) before it overheats and shuts off? I noticed my unit is starts to overheat around the 10 minute mark and will automatically turn off.
Have you cleaned your bowl screen recently? If it's clean, send your unit in for a replacement.

Just noticed you purchased used. Still reach out to S&B, they may be able to help.

If you have a small fan or if you are traveling in your car and your crafty is starting to get hot 20 seconds of cool air blowing on it will allow you to finish your session or give you back to back sessions and the vapor feels very cool almost cold for a few hits then back to normal. The crafty does a solid job of protecting itself from excessive heat but the battery gets way too hot which may explain the post I read where they switched manufacturers. But for those of you who have had your session interrupted this is a quick fix to finish your session or have another or enjoy VERY cool vapor.

Hey there, fellow Crafty connoisseurs.

I have been using my Crafty for several months now and am thus far fairly happy with it. However, the Crafty does have downfalls, the most significant of them being the short battery life along with the tendency to overheat. Now, don't get me wrong, I believe the Crafty to have a perfectly adequate battery life whenever I'm using it solo, but I don't find the same to be true for a group session with 2 or more people. Given the Crafty's unparalleled vapor quality and overall ease of use, I've managed to tolerate these difficulties up until this point.[...]

Hey man, what software are you on? It might had been just me, but I had the same feelings on 2.05. After issues with casing I recievied a 2.06 replacement. Now another user reports his his 2.07, wow! I emailed S&B about 2.07 changelog, but they have not replied yet.

I actually purchased a brand new Crafty about two months ago. I think you may have mistaken vapekush's post with mine.

As for your question, I clean my bowl screen once a week. I don't really want to send my Crafty in as this is my go-to vape. I haven't touched the PAX 2 for like two weeks now and don't really want to use this as it doesn't sufficiently get me high.

I've also noticed the same thing, it seems restricted when it's pretty hot. Maybe because of expanding materials. I get the warning about letting it cool a lot but I always shut it off or hit with a fan before it auto shuts off. I do like thirty second pulls though and the cu gets really hot, I just assumed the overheating was due to my aggressive use.

You will have to get used to that. The S&B portables require multiple warranty returns. I am on my fourth unit in 6 months.

On the heat causing draw resistance, I may know what is doing this because it happened to me once.

I was laying in bed vaping one day when suddenly it got very hard to toke. Hard enough that i knew something was up. It turned out upon further investigation that my CU was dirty enough to toke fine when being used level. But as the vape got hot, and the thick sticky oil inside the CU heated up, and my "lying back" angle caused the "floor" of the CU to become unlevel, or angled back toward the drawing stem, basicly like a ramp, the hot oil crept slowly backward, like a wonderful lava flow lol, and after a minute or two of use reached the stem area enough to clog up the air flow.

Long explanation as I have trouble keeping things short, but I like to be clear. Basicly, monitor the angle that you are holding your unit at the next time this seems to be an issue. See if you are tipping the Crafty significantly back or not. It might be that the CU is clogged enough to be a problem at the angle you are holding it, but not clogged enough to impede air flow when held fairly level.

This may not be your problem, but it IS what caused the same thing to happen to me.

@vapekush you may want to purchase a pax 2 as an all day back up, it seems to fit all your stated requirements and all your money isn't lost if you hard drop it and it's pretty water resistant (mine made it through a washing machine) I absolutely cringe at the thought of my crafty or mighty getting near water or falling

Mighty slipped out of my jacket last week and dropped hard on the street. First I thought :rip: mighty. But it has only some more scratches on it. Nothing broke and it's working strong so far. Sadly I can tell the same story about my crafty with a not so lucky ending... Typical crack around the locking mechanism. New housing/ unit is 50€ iirc. At least that includes the battery replacement, too...

Edit: That doesn't mean I'm not going to buy that sleek, beautiful, little fucker from pax labs the same second it's finally available in Europe

Did they at least start paying for shipment? I'm on my 3rd....

S&B have never offered to pay for any of my postage. Fortunately my retailer has handled everything for me and paid all postage.

Why do you have to pay to get the unit fixed? That should be covered under warranty.

Next week I'll be going to the beach with several friends, and we intend to vape heavy - very heavy - like, all-day, everyday kind of heavy vaping. There is not a doubt in my mind that the Crafty will not be able to deliver in the slightest for an occasion of this magnitude and gravity. It goes without saying that I need a vape that will deliver high quality vapor to several people at a time without fault. I will also be doing a fair amount of hopping around to different people's houses on the beach doing this trip, so I need this heavy-duty vape to be reasonably portable. It can plug in, but it just has to be small. It also has to be fairly durable and ideally would not use glass. The vapes that crossed my mind (in no particular order) were the Mighty, the Vapman, and maybe a log vape like an E-Nano or Underdog.

I also think I recall reading on FC something about someone returning their Crafty and being able to pay the difference for a new Mighty. Is this still something that is possible, especially since I bought my Crafty unit used?

I realize this is a lot of stuff to throw at you guys but I'm desperate for your advice and any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks a lot.

I will agree with @Mister G mate… You might need a flame powered vape! Mighty will not give you what you want during multiple back to back sessions with multiple friends and adding an external pack to the Crafty doesn't make it a Mighty with bluetooth. They will both get very hot and I doubt even the Mighty will be able to keep up battery-wise with multiple people and heavy vaping.

I don't own one but I would suggest a Daisy for such scenarios. Portable enough and should be able to destroy all the people on the beach if she has to… :p I believe she's the easiest for noobs to get to know out of all the flame vapes as well!

Imo it's my fault that crafty kissed the floor quite hard.
I could start a fight with s&b about sturdiness, build quality and so on if they ever would refuse warranty. But I feel guilty, too. I'm totally not the type of guy sticking to laws or rules, but sometimes I stick to my understanding of morality a little too much.
I think s&b will send me a brand new unit in any case since the crack around the locking mechanism is common and I have still a unit from 2014 with the dark blue o-rings. I had the same crack on the first mighty and absolutely no problem with warranty. Its customer service who made me a s&b whore. So I'm quite confident to get a free repairing or a warranty, but if ever they charge me 50€ I would be ok with it after I obviously dropped my unit and I need a new battery soon, too...
Just really weird thinking of mine about karma and so on, not a customer service problem with s&b. I'll find out in the near future if they charge or not. Until now I'm still with my "broken" crafty since its still hitting hard like on day one. :science:

I still hope they are going to redesign the housing to tell you the truth. That's what I'm waiting for to warranty my unit and hopefully this will be the last time I'll have to deal with cs. even if they are fast, I would prefer to never send my beloved vaporizers away! 1 week without the mighty was so hard...

Guys, this is exactly the issue I used to have daily on 2.05. On 2.06 I haven't overheated my unit even once. Even better, I did actually, but only after I finished my session and pluged Crafty for charging I noticed red/blue flashing. If I disconnect, and reconnect it charges while flashing only blue. Even then it turns on like normal and is fully operational. I vape alone and with friends, this issue USED to really bother me. Back then my unit would require about 15 minute cooldown period, while doing random vibrations 3 times. Lol...

But now it's flawless, unless casing goes to hell AGAIN :/ I wish for a titanium lock embed in plastic...

My email to S&B regarding 2.07 changelog remains ignored. Usually they reply within 24 hours.

Does anyone know...

Does the Crafty fit in the RYOT small Packratz case? Any other small case suggestions?

Has anyone else had a power button failure? Mine stopped working last night (can't feel that "click" at all) and will be getting mailed to Oakland today for replacement. We need a sad panda smiley.

No worries. I read that you dropped it but I just assumed the cracks around the oven were from the heat issue.

I thought back in December that they would have to redesign these units soon but nothing has happened so far. Maybe they are just happy to keep doing all these returns rather than redesigning. I have noticed a lot of people on forums recently saying that they will hold off buying due to the all the problems so you'd think they'd do something.

From your description it looks like you need a Volcano. IMO it is the undisputed king of group sessions. Make a big bag, and pass around. You could probably leave it on all day long, and fill bag after bag until; you run out of herbs. It is very efficient this way, and pretty much bullet-proof.

The mighty and vapman, will disappoint you in a group. Both IMO are still solo vapes, especially the Vapman. The plenty is another good one, that will excel in group situations ,and is priced well.

Bro? He'll go to the beach…

EDIT: Sorry, just saw it can be a plug-in… But a plug-in at the beach? That's why it slipped my sight…

LOL, my first thought was no plug in as well, but Vapekush's description makes it seem like he will need a commercial quality vape (if there is such a thing). The Volcano can handle massive groups and probably everything else you can throw at it.
