Washington Residents Smoke Way More Weed Than Officials Thought

[the] state is going about it the wrong way. they really want the money that they can get from the taxes. They don't care about the sick people that need cannabis for their medicine.
Exactly. Its all a money grab. You legalize cannabis to get rid of the black market then you raise taxes so high that it creates a black market and makes it so sick people can't afford their medicine . . .

Of course they don't give a fuck about sick people . . . thats what really makes me angry about all this and I don't even live up there.

Long live free weed in Oregon . . . :peace:

Sez the guy that owns a dispensary ;) :D
I don't own it, I'm the landlord. A BIG difference. Get your facts straight before you make a smart-ass comment like that. I get all my flowers for free and I am told from my tenants that they do the same for their medical patients who give them their grow rights. So only medical patients who keep their grow rights or give them to someone else, and soon recreational patients, are/will be charged for medicine at all. Get your facts straight before you open your mouth . . .

That's sweet that you get your mj flowers for free. I was going to joke and ask if they ever pay some of the rent via buds. Nice.
Also great that med patients get free flowers in exchange for their grow rights. Makes it kinda no muss, no fuss for them---not having the hassle of growing their own and their supply just drops out of heaven, into their laps...

Many folks are able to get their mmj for free if they are low income but that may change in July 2016. They told us if there was legal cannabis that it wouldn't change the medical. That it would be kept seperate, that was bullshit. Just be careful in the legal states that this doesn't happen in your state.

The legal cannabis stores had a really strong lobbying group and a lot of money. They are upset that the medical is taking away from them. It's true they weren't making much profits because of the taxes. The taxes supposably are going to come down - I will wait and see.

Chill out, it was a joke as evident by the big grin and the winky face emoticons I included

But still...
I do get my flowers for free. In actuality it is 3 pounds a year for free plus samples of new untested strains to try out and report on and I get winterized BHO for 10$/gram . . . :)
...if all patients, not to mention everyone else got their weed for free, it would have to affect your tenant's business plans wouldn't it?

Guess I didn't find your comment very amusing . . .

Obviously you are NOT going to get free weed without giving up your grow card and the legal growers only need a certain number of them. Although there are about 30,000 legal grow sites in Oregon this is not enough to satisfy free medical demand because not every grower will give medicine away for free. With just the unsatisfied medical patient demand there is still enough of a business for my tenants to invest heavily here but with the coming recreational market it becomes a license to print money.

Over $1.2 Million In Recreational Marijuana Sold Daily In Washington State
Posted by Johnny Green at 12:58 PM on June 1, 2015Marijuana Business News

Legal recreational marijuana sales started in Washington in July 2014. The start of legal recreational marijuana sales was slow, with only a handful of stores opening. There are still less than half of the recreational marijuana stores open that were expected to, but the sales numbers keep climbing. According to the latest numbers out of Washington, Washington’s legal recreational marijuana industry is sell over one million dollars worth of recreational marijuana everyday. Per The Joint Blog: There’s over $1 million in recreational cannabis sold each day in Washington State among the 142 outlets that are reporting sales figures.

I think July 1 is the day that Oregonians can have up to 8 oz. It will be legal in both states. But I don't know if it is a Federal crime to transport across state lines. They'd have to use Federal Officers, I think. Not likely to occur.

July 1 is the date in Oregon that non-medical users can possess marijuana. But I thought that dispensaries were still only going to be able to sell to those with a medical card- at least for a while. Is that inaccurate?
Because if that's the case I don't understand where Oregonians can get buy other than through the usual illegal channels. Or in Washington.

That's right. Illegal channels until Oregon develops the infrastructure of this whole new business. Check out the Oregon thread for actual timing. The same thing happened in WA.

it is quite odd that legal infrastructures are being set up based on illegal black market prices. guess they need a start somehow but how many other legal infrastructures are set up based on how a black market dictates beforehand. intersting and scary as sh!T as to how we can make laws based from anything

It's been a real slow process in Washington state for the recreational to establish itself. The rules that WA has in place has made it extra difficult for the cannabis entrepreneurs to make a living with the high tax structure. Supposedly the state legislature is going to fix that. The question is when? I notice that cannabis is still around $15 a gram at some outlets. It looks like it depends on where you go. Medical cannabis is around $10 at a regular med mj dispensary.

The state is in the process of trying to shut down many medical cannabis dispensaries, we are in the early phase. The Governor signed HS 5052. Hopefully the people of the state will have a say about med cannabis come this Election Day in Nov. We have a referendum that is being circulated to modify the rules about shutting down dispensaries, in more of a sensible way - instead of gutting our med mj. Medical and recreational cannabis needs to be separate

Our governor Jay Enslee said he would sign whatever bill the legislature came up with and he did. He did veto a small portion of the bill.
