Vapman

Three weeks ago, me and my friends celebrated my upcoming wedding with a short trip to Amsterdam.
Both of them planned to buy their own vapman. The thing is that we couldn't find it. When we did find it, the shop owner was so surprised that we asked for it (he got only one of it).
In another shop, the owner said he got to know the vapman through an American friend and he liked it a lot.
He said that it's not too familiar in Europe, but it's a hit at USA. is it true? and if so, why is it? is it a product in a small market at Europe?
The fact that 23 states and our capital (DC) have medical marijuana programs of some sort definitely helps ;)

A tricky question to answer, i will say that vaping is definitely popular over here you just have to look at where some of the earliest pioneering vapourisers are made .. volcano, verdamper. Both european, so there is definitely a tradition of vaping. As to what percentage vape to smoke etc ... who knows? I think looking at the vm facebook page its clear that the little fella clearly gets about. The only question that could be potentially answered is what percentage of fc members purchased the first 100 batch, but we still wont get to know that figure.

The main difference i see culturally with smoking is Americans generally smoke pure joints and Euros generally mix with baccy in joints. Hash and concentrate scenes are totally different.

@Quetzalcoatl dont forget Holland had been legal a long time, as has Switzerland. ANd Spain has quasi legal scene, i beleive Germany has medical mj as well. Im sure other countries in europe also but i dont know exactly.

After spending way too much money over a few years on expensive torch type cigar and pipe "lighters" I had more then just a slight dislike of anything torch powered.
These cheaper torches are made to be used like more of a tool where-as most torch style cigar/pipe Lighters are just fancy looking fashion accessories that may last a week if your lucky when your using it to the extent we do to vape

Good to know that part because the fancy cigar torches was what I was looking at, good to know they aren't suitable.

Thanks for the help guys, hopefully by the end of the week I will be Vapmaning it up with the rest of you.

Yep, cigar lighters are poor matches, they're designed for delivering lower temperatures over a much wider area than we want. Some even use 2 or 3 burners to do that, a real problem when you're aiming at the bottom of the pan.

OTOH, the shops that sell those fancy stogie lighters are a good source of top quality gas to fill them. My local shop as several brands of 4, 5, and more refined gas. At higher prices than on line of course, at least usually but a lot better than what's available at most stores.

I usually do flowers in my FireFly because like @herbivore21 I only keep the extra tasty flowers, and I feel that the FireFly does a better job with the flavor preservation than the Vapman. Unless of course I want smaller, quicker and more efficient hits.

Also, at home oils usually goes on the nail. But when doing oils on the go, with out glass, or when I'm vaping hash, Vapman is superior for me.

Sometimes a pen is better for oils on the go, but they're often more of a hassle than the Vapman.

Man which pens have you used? The new w9 kiss carts with SiC wicks are epic!! Way easier to use than the vapman (but obviously does not work for buds or hashes that don't fully melt lol)

Ok so I have learned that it is best to do dry hits for the few few torchings to ensure that I get those first mostly invisible flavor hits as much as possible and also realized that my inlet tubes underneath were significantly clogged with resin (by the way, steel guitar strings and heat work great for getting resin out of said tubes!).

Gave my vapman an epic cleanup today and am getting better performance/less vapor loss out the sides now that these tubes aren't clogged.

I would love to see an updated vapman that alters the air intake tubes so they don't inevitably gunk up with resin from whatever is in the bowl (especially hashes but I could imagine this being an issue with really resinous flowers as well)!

Still, it is a great unit and as I said earlier in this thread, I view this as the best solution for hash currently out there and with a refined station with faster heat up (especially at higher temps for concentrates) I really think that this could be the answer to the enail for non melting concentrates! This would be a great niche to fill as right now the only other thing I would consider as good for non melting concentrates is the Sublimator! That is a serious comparison given the price difference between these units and the Vapman really does admirably in this regard!

Guys? Anyone know how I could wax the vapman's paper box/case? Do I just melt some wax and submerge it or pass it with a soft cloth?

It's a very nice case for me to keep the vapman at home, though when out, I prefer to keep the lighter in one pocket and put the rest of the kit in the vapman's pouch as it fits much easier in a pocket. Vapman hasn't got much need for protection I think, it's tough as a brick! :D

When I've done this I used the 'soak it in melted wax' technique until the wax (Paraffin in my case) was well soaked in then pulled it out to drain off the excess. The wax needed to be quite hot so the wax stays liquid long enough to drain off well.

These days I'd probably either use some hard candle wax or add a bit of the plasticizers they sell for candle makers.

FWIW I was using somewhat thicker paper than I think most, and the finish was not too uniform. I'm not sure how well it would have carried, but it was quite waterproof which is what I was after at the time. Starting with heavily waxed paper stock might be a better way?

Good luck with it.

Kickin combustion is 10x harder when your also fighting a nicotine addiction. Trust me.

Good point, but the health benefits are also much larger? And there are other, less toxic, ways to get your nicotine.

Combustion is the enemy here. Sometimes combustion is good, combusting butane in a lighter to heat your VM for instance......but blazing can kill you off young.

look what I just found "The Pocket Torch turns a cheap disposable lighter into a mini torch"

Thing is I don't really know how long the normal lighter would last into this thing, but it seems cool.
here is a review of it. And here is the site where they sell them (with another easy explain video)http://shop.coolmaterial.com/produc...m_medium=video-post&utm_campaign=pocket-torch

A clever concept but I would not want to promote throw away lighters as they are unnecessarily bad environmentally . . .

(Or a refillable lighter at the very least )

Thank you Vapfam.

But I like it!
@botanicalman thanks for the tip!

@VegNVape I know where you are coming from, but my emergency kit includes a small water pipe and a package of zigzags - I also have a disposable Bic lighter in there - I don't wanna get caught pants down... I don't have ton (2 iirc) of them, but if we loose power I'll be a very unhappy puppy without a Butane lighter, or some other form of backup :)

@killick I keep the emergency pipe/papers too. Get a Clipper and you'll have a refillable disposable lighter.

My wife will sometimes demand actual bong hits. The last time she did that, decided to hit it to clear out the bowl when that old instinct/habit kicked in.

My thought was "how did I ever think I could tell good pot from bad by smoking it?"

@vapman I have not yet been able to make the post office trip to return my station, as I cannot mail international from home and travel hasn't been as easy for me this week. Every night, I think about being very naughty, cutting open the shipping box, and using it for the night, so I really need to get it out of here before I can't stand it any more. It's really that good, so I will await its eventual return.

i'm in the same situation as right now I'm kind of home-bound and have to go one place to pack it up to ship and then to the post office to actually send it off.

... I have been a little "naughty" though, using it for a load or two every night, but nothing in my vaping area is flammable and it's not in the house but a patio with everything nearby made of brick and concrete also I pay a lot more attention to the station when doing a session then I did before so i feel safe using it still for now.

I'll get it sent back as soon as i can but may still use it a little until then 'cause it could be another week before i can run around to ship it out. Too Hard for me not to use it while it's still here, Love this thing.

I have only used flower/herb so far, but concentrate screens are on their way. The strain I predominantly use seems to be not particularly resin-y, at least at the (fairly low) temperatures I'm using. The strain my partner prefers has a lot more resin in it (came out in a weird dome the other morning after sitting for a few hours, pictures below). I find myself using an alcohol swab on the filter and bowl after about two bowls of the latter strain. This has so far kept anything from getting baked on.

*edited to add: I think the shiny flaking off is probably the mica. Based on past posts in this thread, it can definitely come off, and probably from any edges scraping/tapping on the heating station.

It is absolutely normal to get a dome like this when the flowers are not fully vaporized and left inside the bowl. Fully vaporized herbs never stick! In case the filter sticks on the bowl, it is very important to heat up the bowl a little before removing the upper part. I have seen bowls ripped out of the tubes by people trying to twist a stuck on filter. I think I mentioned this before already but it can`t be said too many times.:)

It took me a while to catch-up with this thread but finally I made it.
Felt like a roller-coaster regarding the heating station.
I was so happy to read the amazing and positive reviews on it and so so sad to hear about the recall.
@vapman - the way you handle this setback is really impressive and I'm feeling proud to own a product of such a dedicated manufacturer. I'm sure you'll find the solution for this, and I'm sure I'll get the station once you do.

I finally got my friends to buy a vapman of their own and now they understand why I can't stop talking about it.

I guess the next step is to make them join this forum...

@Jospapaia Thank you! I am proud to have nice people like you among my clients!;)

99% of the smokers I know mix with baccy so vaped are after just seen as a novelty.

Kickin combustion is 10x harder when your also fighting a nicotine addiction. Trust me.

This is so true! It is by far the main reason even most of my friends are not using vapman, very sad but true.

@vapman have you ever suggested your tobacco spliff smoking friends blend a little tobacco in the vapman.

Yes, I did many times but they want to smoke the tobacco, it is part of the addiction.
I have a client from Austria using vapman mainly for tobacco and he told me that vapman is a great substitution for smoking. He said that he likes the "flash" in the head and the "pressure" on the lungs he`s getting with vapman, whatever that means. He tried out many different models of vaporizers for kicking his smoking habit and ended up with vapman. From there I learned that vapman must work well for tobacco smokers once they decided to quit combustion. Most tobacco smokers quit combustion not by free will but because of serious health problems caused by smoking, which is too late in my opinion.

There is also a misunderstanding with tobacco smokers regarding vaporizing. Lots of them think, that it is the smoke giving them the pleasure, but in fact, it is the vapor which delivers the nicotine.
Every way of smoking delivers smoke and vapor. The hot smoke of the cigarette vaporizes the nicotine and gets inhaled together with the smoke when pulling on the cigarette. With vaporizer this problem is solved by separating the heat source from the botanicals. If the smokers only knew or be aware, that smoking is actually vaporizing in a very silly and unhealthy way, it might change their mind a bit quicker. Some smokers think of vaporizing as some sort of new and unpredictable technology, giving them the impression that the old fashioned way of smoking can`t be that bad.
Time will change that, too.;)
