My 4 year old extreme q is going strong, love those elbow packs.

Same with mine, mine must be over 5 yrs old now. I replaced the middle heating part as it broke and as you mentioned i've replaced a few elbows. Also my remote died and i'm not going to replace it. Sometimes when the whip is really dirty I will just throw it out and replace that too.

You would need a phone with a built-in IR blaster, an app like IR Universal Remote and some fiddling.

You can also use buttons on the main unit, press M 4 times, and use arrows to change from F0 to F3 fan speed. Most of the times I don't even bother to reach for the remote, I just do this quick combo.

My EQ will be here in like 4 days! I'm super stoked! It'll be my first desktop, and second total after my MFLB. I'm sure it's a magnificent vape and I'm gonna LOVE it. There are a few threads I've come across that describe upgrades or mods people are making. Things involving female/female adapters with screens in them and something about using a silver surfer wand...

I like my toys. Is there some other stuff I need to be ordering here? Does anyone have a pic or two of an EQ with these add-ons?

This thread alone got me to purchase one. Although some recommend the first/only upgrade would be a Ddave adapter. I would be choosy however and avoid any Female/Female adapter that would be a "downgrade" from the cyclone bowl that comes with the EQ. It is two chambers that seem to be designed to hold it's heat well on it's own. As opposed to say an ordinary stock Female 18mm to Female 18mm. Also the cyclone bowl is narrow enough to allow for airflow. But a lot of these same people say what is in the box is just fine. :tup:Also true. A silicone whip hose upgrade is inexpensive choice if you plan on using the whip more. Other than that, read this thread for what to avoid/decide before choosing. Or should I say sift. Couldn't hurt finding out some good maintenance tips too.

I so don't wanna sift through 330 pages. Where can I get one these Ddave pieces?

I do plan on using the whip quite a bit. Is the one it comes with bad? I'll def go get the new silicone if need be.

The whip I got with mine worked fine. I eventually got another one as the original got really dirty and stained and I couldnt be bothered trying to clean it. The one I bought as a replacement was a harder plastic or rubber or whatever they are and didnt bend as well, but still does the job fine.

I've never bought any attachments for my EQ. I just use the whip, I havent even tried the bags lol.. I've been meaning to try the bags but just have never got around to it.

I love my EQ, it does a great job and it's lasted along time with only a few things that I have had to replace to keep it working.

^mate I don't blame you!

Where are you? That will help someone help you.
If you are in Australia, Ozbongs will sort you out for $7.45

Otherwise, eBay, DHgate, or a local online head shop will probably have you covered from multiple angles.

oooohhhhh... Ddave doesn't MAKE a special piece, they've just kinda named the mod after him?

So IF I replace the Cyclone bowl, it needs to be with an 18mm f/f with the bulge in-between to fit a screen?

IF I replace the whip, it needs to be silicone?

And the SS wand is.... nope.. not sure about that exactly yet.

the wand connects the tubing to the adaptor and replaces the elbow piece. all together do work no doubt but individually each can be an upgrade if it works for you.

stock is good too although i found silicon tubing much better than the stock

No it was a reply to DaddyBradley :)
Nonetheless, if you don't have one and you're in Aus, you might as well grab one :)
Nothing will give you better hits than quality bud though, you can mix and match whatever you please with the extreme q, but at the end of the day, you need properly grown dank kush for vaping. More so if you are changing from a heavy combusting habit such as myself. But, it will always be the deciding factor in the hit.

I have not yet tried a SS wand, what do people have to say about them? $30 bucks seems a bit rich, and I seem to be getting most of the goodies out of an elbow packed bowl, so what's the go there?

for me, the wand is cracking good. much better for the whip i find.

recently hooked up to water pipe using an elbow as attachment pipe end and that worked very well. for me the great thing is the versatility of the EQ. others may perform single functions better but the variety is good fun

I'm also saying you need to consider the width of the replacement bowl. To make a good fit and not obstruct the airpath going into the unit. You could elbow pack without the middle screen. but that could turn into a mess if you have an accident. Some people will fashion there own screen setup. But with all the glass makers out there, why settle for something that will work with poorer results than the cyclone that came in the box? I made a post mentioning also that the cyclone bowl traps and conducts the hot air better than some cheap 18mm f/f from say DHgate.
For possibly $5 more you can get a custom piece. Or at the very least, get the dimensions of a cyclone bowl and use that as a template.

You can replace the whip with anything that will fit the elbow piece. Silicone is presumably more food-safe and bends easily for attachments and can handle hotter temps. Some FC-er's may be able to tell you which silicone tubing is even more food-safe.

Does anyone still use the stock cyclone bowl. If so how efficient is it? Are you removing the bowl each time you use it. Or just leaving it on there. I elbow pack a lot but would rather use the cyclone bowl(its cleaner) and not have to clean the elbows every day. Cyclone looks like it hold .3 .4 where the elbow hold .1 .2. How many hits are you getting out of the cyclone vs using an elbow pack. Also does anyone have an estimate on the temp difference? Like if using the cyclone what temp do you set it at vs when its an elbow pack. How different is the temp on the display vs the actual bowl temps. I've been searching for these answers and haven't really found the info I wanted. The device works fine for me the way it is. Just more so care about using my herb efficiently. I love my mflb and lotus for the small amounts they use with the WPA for both. I love the elbow packs but it gets annoying cleaning. So want to use the cyclone the way it was designed and just wonder how quickly ill use more product or will it be about the same. Thanks for anyone that can help.

Damn.. ain't that a bit much for just a glass adapter??
I see the middle bulge doesn't stick out farther than the edge of the female adapter. I'm guessing that's key?

Found the wand for 15.99. That seemed decent enough.

Supply and demand right there I guess, though at least they pre-install a screen, and everything is definitely the perfect size. Kudos to the seller I guess, I would support if I was local.

I think a wand would be a decent purchase, it might collect more reclaim and keep whips cleaner for longer.
On a side note; Is anyone out there with one willing to take a nice detailed photo and give description of how they use it?
I'm sure there's a post further back, but I've looked pretty thoroughly through this thread previously and I don't think I quite get how they're loaded or how air travels through these elusive wands, are there notches or is there any crimping to the tube?

In my current set-up, I have swapped all my elbow adapters and I'm using a straight Vape-to-Bong attachment on top of a F/F 18SG adapter with a 25mm stainless screen

14vlqfm.jpg

This gets the screen nice and close to the heater, and the resulting vapour can white wall both pieces, with the right greenery. The larger billy can pretty much one-hit a tightly packed elbow screen, but will continue to offer vapour for a smaller hit straight after.
I've tried my best to replicate the Aussie bong standard of cones, where you chop a mix, pack a cone piece/bowl and smash the whole lot in one hit, continue the rip until it's pulled through the stem and "carb" to clear the pipe.
This offers something reasonably close to this, but it's tough/impossible to finish it in one go as it just keeps vaping until it eventually fades away. This is alright though, because as nothing is pulled through it just feels like a cone that's too big.
There are considerable differences in the effect due to the lack of tobacco in the mix, it is much more of a "head-high" and is noticeably less addictive, but similarly moreish. Chowing down vapour until you can only just fit a chamber size more in, and clearing that pipe leaves me pretty wasted, even with a high tolerance. Without tolerance it's probably too much; after a month off I had about 7-10 of these and was wasted for most of the next day :science:

On a side note, I just pulled the small bubbler pictured off my desk by the hose, it somehow survived. I am shocked, it landed on hardwood with some force and there isn't even a scratch on it. These China pieces are the way to go, though the bigger one is a replacement thanks to the pet dog :whoa:

Here is my old post, hope it helps.

It acts the same way as your adapter. I'm guessing it is so popular because the SSV GG wand is so easily available to just about everyone and the sample variance is so small.

Good questions raised.

Leaving the glass attachment on the heater will keep it at an even temp, rather than taking it off and having to let it absorb a lot of energy to heat back up. That energy can instead go straight to the herb.

I'm not sure I will be doing anything more than adding shrink wrap to my smaller F/F adapter. The efficiency of vaping seems to increase having the bud closer to the heat source. It drastically affects the temperature that the bud gets to, I have dropped it down 15 deg C and am seeing similar results in vapour consistency between it and the cyclone.
But mainly, having it closer by using the adapter, makes it darker, and much more evenly spread in colour. Even charring the exposed edge at temps below 240 (the temp in Celsius deemed as combustion - the EQ is probably made to be hotter at the top then the temperature setting to allow for the designed air gap? )

With the cyclone, I would guess it would be best to use it for bags, especially for multiple, though I always found I got milkier hits when elbow-packing, and more often I just do this and pack more frequently. I find the cyclone bowl gets dirty when using its chamber and probably isn't much better to clean than a screen or two every now and then (it's not something I do often, because I take a bit of care to get rid of all traces when emptying it of AVB. I'll soak them all in isopropyl alcohol when the time comes and vape it off with my machine after.
You get more hits by having more in the glass chamber than with the screen, but you don't get a constant level of extraction (an impossibility with any method IMO), it requires stirring and I would bet it leaves green tinges in the AVB even after doing so a couple of times.
I also think that having bud sitting there being heated, without any active airflow, may generate more residue build up due to easier settlement although, it's probably negligible anyway, none the less I want that sticky THC in me and not anywhere else. So, using less in the elbow screens means less vapour overall, but more at once. And with active substances, the first dose matters as that is the lowest point of tolerance.

The difference in temp is an interesting question and one I wish I had a laser thermometer to figure out.
It's hard to say, but seeing as there are 3 separate thermometers in the EQ, there location would be dependant on the accuracy of the digital reading and the temp the device is running at. It will not and can not be accurate to the material being vaped. But it would become closer with active airflow (as the device is made to compensate for this).

At the end of the day, when you heat up bud past 160C and inhale the resulting fumes, however you're doing it will work. All these upgrades that I and others have done, just make those fumes closer to the clouds we're chasing.

Here is my old post, hope it helps.

It does perfectly, I knew there was a good post as I stumbled upon it once. Turns out I remember that sick sticker you have, but at the time the words didn't have as much relevance to me and escaped me.
Cheers for the link :)

My FC-UFO came in today. :) Still at work so I haven't been able to try it. Appears to be about double the volume of the D020 and it seems to draw a lot smoother also.

can you please tell me where you got those elbow glass pieces and silicon tubing. i am having the hardest time finding any :(
